I posted this over in UO craftsmen, but no one has answered..

I am trying to use BSing to make items to unravel now, anyone know the best way to keep the gains up? Is it based on the item or the ore color? I notice DC give me gains, but you cant even unravel Shadow Iron or Bronze, but gold seems to work, should I just keep with the DC ore and make more advanced weapons, or do I have to up the color of the ore too?

Not sure what you mean entirely.

Are you trying to get blacksmith gains or imbuing gains?

For blacksmith gains, the only thing that matters is the difficulty of the item you make, doesn't matter what type of ore you use. And also, if you're only trying for blacksmith gains and not imbuing gains, then you can only unravel things into Magical Residue which is easy to acquire, I wouldn't waste good ingots on trying to get them.

If you are going for imbuing gains, unless they've updated the new changes yet (and I don't think they have), you can only get imbuing gains from unraveling up to 25. Easiest way to do this is with dull copper hammers (a little expensive) or do some tmap hunts and unravel the loot. You need about 400-500 items to unravel to get from 0-25. Above 25, you'll want to follow some of the other guides here, make daggers, imbue them with either luck or hit dispel, unravel. Then GM daggers, repeat. Then GM Arms lore daggers, repeat, and this will get you to 70 ROT. All while using minimal/no magical residue, but you will need gems.

If you need some items, let me know and we can go on a tmap hunt for some low level junk to unravel.

Bruin, they have changed it a lot on how the gains work.. what I have been doing is...

Smith as many DC daggers as I can (change color type to DC, craft as normal, etc)
Once full, go to the soulforge, unravel container and kill them all, get a bunch of gains.

I started out at 3.6 Imbuing, am now at 41.6 doing this, however, I notice it is slowing down a bit.

So my question I guess was, what decides the difficulty of the unravel, is it the color of the ore, or is it the type of item? Does it being exceptional matter? Things like that.

And yes, everyone who is reading, I got to 41.6 just unraveling, its still working, tho slower, hence my question on difficulty, if I can move to the next unravel level, maybe it will go faster again :)

Chance to unravel is based on properties on the item. Im sure you can find the exact numbers on stratics, or UOGuide. The difference is the skill required. So you start of unraveling some BS items with low item weights, and thus get residue. Once you can unravel things into essence, then thats what you wanna do. So you might wanna use a higher color ore, and thus get different properties. There are 3 levels of unravel, and that directly related to what resource you get. Either Residue, essence, or relic.

Hmmm, guess I am going to have to play until I find something that unravels higher then the daggers then. I dont think metal plays too much into it, unless agapite+ gives more stats then DC, I guess I can try lol

Golden Ingots add +40 Luck to all weapons besides the other properties.. They unravel very nicely! If you need ingots check my Minoc Gate vendor east down the barrel path.. "shameless plug" rolleyes:

Dull copper and gold work because they add something other than resists, ie 'lower requirements' and 'luck'. Unless they've changed it (and I think it's one of the few things they haven't) you can't get essence till you hit 50 imbuing.

While you might still gain from unravelling at this level I think you might get faster gains by imbuing now.

I think it is 45 now, I just got 19 essences off my last unravel batch, and I am now 46.1, so somewhere in there is essences...

no keep going with your unravelling I am past 60 if u get good loot (used 600 items from turkey corpses) and have went from 60-63 unravelling essense in the last hour. if you are using the EC you can get a skin that lets you see intensity and its color coded, just throw all the 200%+ stuff in a bag and unravel I'm hoping it will get me to RoT.

Well, if you have arms lore + 120 Smithy, you will get 43DI on daggers, made with gold, and you get another prop. Also could imbue a single gem, single residue prop on there (say luck), and unravel after for double gain chances (one from luck, one from unravel)

you can only get imbuing gains from unraveling up to 25.
Your info is outdated. You can get unravelling gains to 120 skill now I believe. I am getting ROT gains from unravelling now and not spending any more gems or residue. I am approaching 80 imbue and still gaining off of unravels since the patch.
