Yeah you are right I can just leave chat...but why should I leave...The new chat system is cool to chat with people...the point is they need to someone to filter it. And yes I am not going to cancel my acct because of it.

You all understand that it is ONLY fully functional on the test center and not completely "installed" on the rest of the shards right? I mean I know it can be a circus right now, but Mythic Employees and The Patch Notes speak to these very issues and then some...

I, for one, will wait until ALL the shards are FULLY updated before I get too worked up. For now leaving the channel/chat system is your best option assuming you can (Some players claim to be stuck in the chat system even after leaving).

The functional response
To remove yourself from the chat, find the room you think you are in (use the chat button in the menu above the play screen, the one you can expand and collapse by clicking the little arrow), highlight it, and click "leave."

Or find a room called "silence" or something similar. Or go into a rarely used channel such as general chat--Ilshenar.

The team has stated that there'll be improvements to the chat system; look at this as an open beta. Granted, usually you can elect to participate in open betas!

The policy response
It is, UO team, ridiculous that commercial spam and obscenities go on essentially unchecked in the new chat system when there's so many examples in the relatively recent past of your responding so far in the other direction.

Too true, but I don't know if t works with the new chat system or perhaps it does not yet as the system is not live on any shard other than TC1. One would hope it would be just this easy. Here's hoping!

EDIT - a quick test on TC1 shows that the profanity filter does indeed filter the profanity, but of course this does little for personal attacks and general griefing.

I'm hoping your right... I know I said in a previous post or two on the subject I think the chat thing is an AWESOME new feature and a huge step in the right direction .... and could potentially be a very, very useful tool.

However that said I know the kind of scum playing UO and it certainly doesn't surprise me that it's being highly abused.... but part of me says LET them abuse it... let them show the DEV's who they are and their "true colors".... hopefully it'll get them one step closer to a true perma ban.

Sorry to tell you but UO is rated "T" not "M". Everybody has agreed to follow the ROC while they are playing UO. Why should I have to go out of my way when it is stated in the:

Ultima Online Service Rules of Conduct

You may not use any offensive or sexually explicit language, graphic descriptions, or accounts of sexual acts (including but not limited to sexual language of a violent or threatening nature directed at another individual or group of individuals).

AND

With the exception of the sale of in-game items for in-game items or services, you may not market, promote or advertise anything, or make any other form of solicitation (including pyramid schemes and chain letters) through the Ultima Online service or Ultima Online web site.

These are thier rules and EA/UO should enforce them or change them. I should not have to use filters or ignore.

Same here... It actually got people from different alliances together for a wild and wooly fight with a paragon Greater Dragon in the Ki-Rin passage that must have lasted an hour. It allowed us to socialize, and introduce people to areas of the game they had never ventured, or hadn't been there in years (the battle with the dragon was preceded by a romp through the Central/Ankh dungeon, starting at the Serpentine Dragon entrance).

I do not actually have a problem with the idea of the chat system itself. But as with many great ideas in this game, it was released before it was bug free and finished. I would personally rather wait for something to come out and it actually work, and it be a useful benefit, than deal with half created ideas. And what I have a huge issue with, is being automatically logged into it every time I log into game, and not having an option to turn it off. (my option to not turn it off has more to do with dealing with yet another bug.)

If I wanted to hear a bunch of idiots babbling, I'd let them into my guild. I've worked very hard to keep people like that out of my guild. The first time I logged in today, with the chat automatically open, not even five minutes passed, and there was a cross shard pissing contest!

As for turning it off, yes, I found the "leave" button. And after clicking it, I saw the message saying "current chat room: NONE" Yet, I was still seeing chat! More mindless dribble about a pointless time wasting pathetic pissing contest!

After that, I highlighted every single room, and clicked the "leave" button. And I'm still seeing chat from people I don't want to.

Not only that, but I see no way of viewing who is in the chat room with you, though I'm sure if that was an option, mine would be empty as my chat keeps telling me I'm not in a room! And I also do not see an option to mute anyone.

So basically, I now have no choice in this game, but to listen to others talk about things I don't want to know, hear about, or discuss. And I don't have the right to turn it off. This is now a forced "I must listen to everyone on the shard!" What's the point of guild and alliance chat?

And there's no security in this new system, anyone can join any channel, so if you are planning a hunt, raid, sigil guarding, or anything else in Fel, you can't even use the new chat system or anyone orange to you on the shard could see it!

Great job, lets make it easier for players to harass other players.

Someone commented that KR was your worst idea for this game. Until this chat upgrade, I agreed. But at least with KR you had the option of playing it or not. I don't see any options or fair choices with this new chat system.

I don't like it, I won't use it, and I strongly believe that if you are going to insist that this stay in the game, that you work to make it fair and add some very over-sighted features, such as the list of people in the room and a mute option. Maybe even some security measures if anyone would like to make it useful for hunts and the like, without having to worry about being raided or harassed.

Just so you know (looks like you don't visit here often) there are two parts to the system. The client side part and the server side part. Currently only the test center has been updated with the server side, BUT all clients have been updated in preparation for the live update. The patch notes warned that there would be "oddities" until all the shards are updated. This means that until then we are auto loaded into the chat system/default/last channel and need to "leave" every time. In fact it has been reported that some people are unable to leave even after trying. This has been addressed on these forums by more than one Mythic Employee.

While certainly inconvenient and we can argue the wisdom or necessity in the multi-part update ONCE the update is complete you will not auto login to the chat system unless you choose to (it will remember your choice) and the built in profanity filter will work in the chat system as well. It has also been stated that they (Mythic) is looking into adding a password option to player created channels and some other things to make the experience more appealing for all. Of course once complete we can all choose to leave the chat system and never use it again (Just like old times).

Now how the spam and general rudeness will be dealt with remains to be seen, but it appears that each account has been assigned a unique ID that remains the same no matter what character you are logged in with so it is "possible" the system will be logging or reporting those that break the rules or abuse the system.

Bottom line is until the update is complete we really don't know how it will work, but you will not be FORCED to use the system.

What I do not like is that it's enabled as soon as you log on. I don't want to be in any chat channel. I don't want it to auto-log me into a chat channel. How about making it default that if you WANT to use it, YOU have to log into it yourself.

ITS NOT DONE,CHECK THE COUNTLESS OTHER THREADS THAT HAVE EXPLAINED THIS. WHEN IT IS PATCHED TO OUR SHARDS THERE WILL BE OPTIONS ALL OF YOU ARE CRYING ABOUT.

Instead of crying with the empty threats (not speaking about OP) to cancel accounts why not try to look at the info thats here and I`m sure on the Herald before jumping to conclusions and getting thy panties in a twist. Midol anyone? C`mon....theres plenty for everyone!
