I have been playing this game since day one. Or maybe i should say i have been paying for this game since day one. I get really into it for awhile and then drop it for a few months. Example, I last played during the invasion that ruined Magincia and then a little bit when that big hole was in Moonglow. Then i didnt log in for months. When i saw there was a new expansion (SA) i got it and started playing again to check out the new stuff.

I have had a fencer with healing for some time that i use occasionally in doom and he worked alright for jumping in and getting artis as long as the DF had something else to bang on but i didnt have or concern myself with any real technique. just hit til i was low and run away and heal.

So when SA came out and i saw that i could make my own gear the way i wanted it instead of wasting a bunch of time shopping or hoping for good loot, i got right on making an imbuer. Being an oldtimer i had already maxxed out the other crafter skills so i turned my mule to a gargoyle and wasted much of the first 3 weeks training imbue to 120. Then i stoned everything and loaded some mele skills and killed slyths til i could go to the queen's forge.

Luckily for me, i had a stack of probably 100 or so martys laying around from years of playing so I had plenty of relics to make whatever i wanted. I got on here and studied all of the Sampire guides and decided that was what i wanted so after busting out excell and weighing all the requirements i made my suit and weapon. Here is what i came up with:

DI: 100
HCI: 45
DCI: 45
LMC: 40
MR: 1
HPR: 2
STA: 32
ML: 50
SL: 50
SSI: 0 (kryss or leafblade so still fast)
HLA: 50
MANA: 0
DEX: 0
INT: 13
STR: 0
PHYS: 70
FIRE: 97
COLD: 70
POIS: 70
ENER: 75
PARRY: 15
ANAT: 15
LUCK: 220

Stats are STR:120 INT:10 DEX:125 and show 113, 43, 157 after adjustments.
Character is an elf.

Skills with adjustments are:
Bushido: 120
Fencing: 120
Parry: 120
Anatomy: 120
Tactics: 100
Necromancy: 99
Chivalry: 71
= 720

So I get it all together and decide to go try it out at chaos shrine on balrons substituting a HLA weap for one with demon slayer... and get killed in about 5 seconds. Go rez and have at him again but forgot to Vamp so died again. Third time's a charm and i get it my stuff and kill that one after a close battle. next one come up and i remember i am supposed to honor it first so that one goes easy. After a while i get a feel for it and am able to kill them pretty well so on to the next challenge...

I decide to go after Dreadhorn because i read he is the easiest. Here comes the part with all the gray robes... Those friggin changlings are a nightmare. I got whooped so many times i wore a mudhole trail back to the spirit shrine. finally i just went and got my tamer/bard with GD and got all the keys. That was much easier so i thought id try DH with the tamer first. I pop in and he's on me and wont peace so im dead in 10 seconds and then watch my GD bite the dust. I turn my ghost to a chicken in UO assist so i can bring up DH's lifebar and he barely has a scratch. Oy Vay. So i take the bridge, get rezzed and go home to drop off the other keys so i can try the sampire. Load up with potions and head to Ilsh and hit the key with 2 minutes to spare. I sneek up to DH and see he still has a sliver of red so i cant honor him and spend the next 15 minutes keeping him just off screen hoping his life comes back. No luck there and he finally targets me so i take my stand. I toe to toe with him for a few minutes but eventually run out of potions and he snuffs me out. all i was using was EoO and LS and consecrate so i know my technique sucks but he put the whoopin on me pretty good. Afterward i went back and tried to get a few more of the keys but the changlings kept killing me so i gave up. I took on a paragon Cu and killed it pretty easy, having to run only once to heal. so i took on another and it killed me about 6 times and i let it be.

Frustrating after all that work getting ingredients, etc but i guess it is as much technique as equipment so I will work on it and figure it out eventually. I am pretty happy with my gear. Except for those damn changlings i can keep all of my bars pretty much full while fighting.

I have never used potions much before or honor or any of the special skills other than EoO and CW so i know i have a lot of technique to work on. I'm not really asking for advice here, just offering up my first experience as a fledgling sampire.

My two cents, if others are working on one, don't expect it to be a cakewalk as soon as you finish your skills/suit. Hopefully it will be worth it eventually but my Disco tamer is much more effective so far. Of course it has only been one day so i am optimistic. Perhaps i will make some gorgon lenses and try medusa next. i have soloed her with the tamer so i think she may be easier and a nice stepping stone toward the other peerless.

Hehe, "easiest of the Peerless" is a far cry from "easy."

Also, if it's preferable, Rikktor is about the same toughness as DH, so if you can solo Rikktor you have a good chance at DH.

and for a lower requirement, you'll know you're not ready for either if you can't solo a Para Balron.

... didn't read anything in there about your Swamp Dragon... you have one, yes?

And keep in mind second lesson. Bind a hotkey for Evasion. But use only when u've learned Confidence, it allow you gain more mana and stamina on parry, also regenerate your health very fast.

Well i took on some balrons today. Got so i could cut through them like butter using confidence. Took on 2 para balrons. First i died 6 times, second i died twice... but i got em both so i am starting to get a feel for this. still do a heck of a lot of running for my life around that square hallway at chaos shrine. no way i can toe to toe those paras for very long but my fencing is not quite maxxed out yet so i miss occasionally.

Great post! I just got my first sampire character yesterday, and definitely have alot to learn. I have trouble w the balrons because they cast spells like paralyze and with no Resisting spells, they tromp me. I'm also reluctant to give up healing skill, but maybe I should just let Confidence do. Trouble with that is my mana runs out.
Also, I really hate having to carry reagents around. You can't insure them, so if you're killed in a dangerous place, you have to go get reagents before you can vamp again. That's a big drawback in spawn situations.

Imbue a ring and braclet with 20 LRC :) plus anything else you might want on it [i stuck mana and magery on it aswell to cast faster and make some food]
Saves carrying regs.

An arcane robe or boots will cover your reagent problem quite nicely.

This is what I do. My sampire always wears a pair of arcane boots since there is really no other item with any useful mods for this clothing slot. That's 20 deaths worth of casting vamp form with one fully charged pair.

i carry vamp scrolls because u can fizzle as many times as u want without the scroll being used( arcane boots loose a charge even if u fizzle). and i carry a pair of insured arcane boots incase something loots my scrolls or if i run out of them.

Ok i just soloed Medusa no problem, well no problem until i ran out of gorgon lens charges. i thought i was ok with about 70 but no dice. what a pain it is without as she turns you to stone every 10 seconds it seems.

Note: just use LS on clones, if you honor or EoO or anything else it seems like they are way harder. i only know this because a couple sneeked up on me and they were dead before i could bring up their bar but the ones i prepared for nearly took me out.

Also, i had like ten of them walking around so i got them all to chase me like revenants and then when i killed one they all left. i was just going to round them all up and die and hope they would vanish like a rev so i did and sat there waiting and biffed one and suddenly they were all gone. i dont know if they timed out or vanished but they were gone.

Tinkers make lenses, alchemists make powder required for the lenses. Any of the prism of light crystals work, timer or no.

Also, any scales work for the lens.

The best scales are the ones you shave off her premortem [invun blue in color] as they offer 100% resistance to being turned to stone, wereas any other scales are about 80% affective.

I took my stealther down there, got some eggs and went in and shaved her a few times to make them for my sammy.

I think people commonly make the mistake of trying to use slayers where they shouldn't. My general rule of thumb is if it takes 10+ swings to kill the monster, you shouldn't be using a slayer because you'll hit your 300% damage cap with perfection anyways.

I got Arcane boots and my reagent troubles are history! Definitely the way to go for me.

Ok, I do not understand Lynk's comment about if it takes 10+ hits, then you should not be using a slayer. Can you clarify, please?

I always use a slayer when possible, and have Repond, Reptile, Demon, and Arachnid available, and switch them out as needed. Why would I not? I'm not always guaranteed to be able to Honor an opponent, especially in crowded team play.

Are you saying that if it takes LESS than 10 hits, then you're wasting properties on a slaye?

I agree with Lynk and tell people this all the time.

DI from items - 100%
Enemy of One - 100%
Perfection step 10 - 100%

You always, always honor your opponent. Each hit (step) grants you 10% DI. On your tenth hit you reach perfection. This grants you 100% DI and a 1000 Luck bonus.

DI is capped at 300% and a slayer is a waisted mod on a weapon.

EoO is 50%, tho. I dunno about the rest but I'm sure if I'm hitting something for 50 hits and I cast EoO, I'll start hitting for 75, not for 100.

50% of 200% is 100%. They're taking the 100% from perfection into account.

Are you sure? Because I really think I deal more damage when using EoO and a slayer (for instance against rotting corpses) than with the slayer alone... But maybe you are talking about normal slayers while I mean superslayer?

Re: Finished my fledgling Sampire... and have a nice stack of gray robes to show for

If I'm not mistaken, EoO is taken into account in the last part of the equation, so it's 50% of the totals before it. That's why with the new slayer damage amounts you don't even need it if you have a slayer and a talisman together.

Re: Finished my fledgling Sampire... and have a nice stack of gray robes to show for

I have been comparing slayer versus super slayer, with and without EoO.
I am looking at the maximum damage applied, which comes when I run Consecrate Weapon and Lightning Strike.
I compare the maximum value I see to the damage range shown in my character gump.

Here is what I find. With a super slayer, the max damage I see is 3 times the maximum damage shown in the gump. With a specific slayer (Ogre or Lizardman, for example), I still see 3 times as the max.
EoO does not affect the 3x cap.
When I use a big old Ornate Axe with Honor and EoO, the maximum damage is still 3x.

So... it seems that if you have a slayer, any slayer, then you get 3x the damage. And the damage is capped at 3x the gump max.
