Skill Bonus items vs real

I started playing UO when 3rd dawn came out. There was speculation (or fact) then that skill bonuses would bring your skill as high as you wanted but at a cost of not being actually as good as having the real skill that high. Make sense?

So my question now, I have a sampire with a ring that has +13 swords, +13 tactics, and +13 parry. If I drop my real skills (all at 120) and throw this ring on, will the skills still perform at legendary level the same as if they were real skills?

The only difference u can notice with jewelry skills is forms. Vampiric form, lich form etc. If u remove jewelry (or cross server border) form go poof.

nice. Not a big deal really. I'll just keep necro at real 99 for vamp form. It used to be like.. if you had 85 real magery but used bonuses to get to 100, you wouldn't have the 100 magery success rate at casting. I'm glad I can molest the system and get 890 pts out of a template.

I say this over and over again, but I'll say it once more since this is a thread specifically about this point. If you use +skill items, you become married to those items. If you ever decide to change any part of your character's suit or template, it requires a complete rebuild of the character instead of a minor swap of one thing or another. If working skills and spending the millions required to rework a suit are ok with you, then go ahead and do it. If you prefer to have more versatility in making changes to your char, then you'd need to stay away from them.

Heh - of course - the ability to do this kind of deep/complex character building and gear assembling is also one of the things that attracts people to UO. A pain, for sure, but the flexibility is awesome. No other game lets you truly "build" a character like UO does.

Hehe, sometimes i like just to build a character, because i liked some idea and want to try it. Proccess of building sometime bring more pleasure, than result :)

How many people that come here asking for help actually have both of those though?

That's just it: if you have all of that, you probably earned it by knowing the things people would be asking for here... Yet everyone always replies to questions with "spend 50m on items..." basically. :/
