So use this thread to tell us your secret recipes, both for the big day and for using up that leftover turkey and ham and sides

not a recipe, just a discussion...

like most homes, Thanksgiving was a huge meal when we were kids... one thing that was a part of that meal was what we always called turnips... we called them turnips cause that's what Mom and Pop called them, and they called them turnips cause that's what the grandparents (both sides) called them, and I'm sure it went back for generations

they weren't turnips at all, which we all discovered after we'd grown some... it's a rutabaga.... big wax covered yellow-brownish thing that requires a hacksaw to cut up... they don't smell that awful good when they're cooking (which takes forever! you cannot possibly overcook a rutabaga!) but they're kinda sweet and I've always really liked them.... specially when ya get to the leftovers and mix them with the mashed potatoes

sooo...... Papa and I stop at the store on Saturday and I make the mistake of saying that I gotta remember the turnip.... strolling thru the vegetables and there, on the end of a rack, are turnips... the pinky-purplish little things that taste really awful (to me, anyway, I'm sure that turnips have their own following) and he starts to bag up some...... "what are you doin? you like those things?" he gets that look, the one that says "well you said turnips"

Well...My turkey day usually goes like this...I get up early and watch the Lions get beat by whomever they play on thanksgiving and have three cups of coffee and some pumpkin spice bread...

Then in the afternoon, before the Cowboys game I usually start kicking back a few Bud Lights. Proceed to watch my fav team, the Cowboys, drink some more beer, then eat the feast my Wife and Mom have created.

I finish off with a bountiful helping of Dutch Apple Crisp pie my wife makes and I fade off to bed, only to be woke up at the butt crack of dawn for black friday shopping(thats why I drink the beers on thanksgiving...)

The usual routine will be to go over to my parents house for Thanksgiving. My mom will have spent countless hours preparing the food, while my dad will have prepared one dish. He'll go on and on about the one dish he made. Then he'll ask me how to fix a problem on his computer and get side tracked while everyone else is waiting to eat.

My Thanksgiving Day will actually start today with prep work. Fresh oil will be placed into the fryer. Turkey gets cleaned and then I will inject a cajun/butter seasoning into the turkey (under the skin of course - always do you best to not break the skin). The outside will be covered with rub and then placed into the fridge to marinate overnight.

Tomorrow I will take the bad boy out and fry him up for the big feast!! Gotta love a good fried turkey!!

couple years ago there was a slightly odd family living on the road behind us... our backyards butt up against each other... around 9am the guy comes out and starts a fire in the large pit, and he carefully tends it..... for most of the day... apparently tending a fire that large also requires another man and copious amounts of beer... long about 2pm they disappear, reappearing an hour or so later with a length of rebar with two turkeys skewered on it... rather large turkeys, they were

I imagine they finally sat down to eat sometime around midnite

Well since every year I get picked to cook the whole dinner and clean everything up by myself I put off asking others over for thanksgiving may sound harsh but that is alot to do for 1 person and cost alot to. My son will be here sometime if only for the deviled eggs which he thinks I make the best ones ever. I put sugar in them as I am sure others do to. Now you know Krov what goes in the eggs As far as the other family members they found somewhere else to go eat and not have to cook or clean up I guess Oh and if your reading this Krov have Jackie make that really good pudding dish she made last year

with the leftover turkey you can make a nice turkey salad for sandwiches that includes apple pieces and cut up grapes mayo salt pepper but it makes a great little sandwich

You can toss all the leftovers in a blender and make a thanksgiving shake Add some orange food dye to make it easier to drink.
