Best way to tame a greater dragon?

I'm currently on a bard/tamer with:
taming/lore/veterinary/musicianship/discordance/magery.

I want to try my hand at taming a greater dragon but im not sure of the best way to do so alone? Any tips/ideas would be greatly appreciated. It's been awhile since I've tamed any pets.

Have to agree fully too with using honor, I have 120 music peace and disco and and im lucky to get one tame attempt in with peace...Stealth and herding are nice too to get them to a quiet spot to tame as well.

I would have to agree with this 100% but you might want to make sure you find the right one. I have a stealthing herder I use to go scope out dragons.

i also have a bard tamer, i usually scout out a potential prospect in destard and lure him down to the stalagmite island just to the right of the water ele pond, then i play hide and seek with him and time the "breaths" honor is a nice option but to unreliable for me being on foot. i can always gate in and out with a cu. after hes been beat up a little. then its a simple walk-about the stalagmite island there until i get him to obey. orange petals for the win as well. oh yeah and disco him first lol

From the Halloween event. Turn into a monster from the Essence and tame way. Quite nice being able to run through a dungeon and using lore on every Greater Dragon for a month straight looking for a good one and being able to just sit there and keep failing tames until you finally got it.

I ended up getting a 4.2 Greater Dragon doing this.

Honor. I learned the hard way.

Thought I could be tough and just lead tame without honor. However, if you are in areas with sticky terrain, that is a lot more difficult than it sounds.

You can farm honor for a few hours and have enough to keep the greater at bay while you tame.

I did get a 4.0 this way, but I had to honor him twice, as he was rather stubborn.

Probably wouldn't try honor taming until your at least follower in honor, and then just spam taming until you start to tame one. Seeker just doesn't give enough time.

I have a stealth tamer that I use to check out the dragons and then a 120 taming/lore tamer that is follower or knight in honor as well as spellweaving to actually tame it.

Lead-taming with peace

I plain-ol' peace-tame them. 120 peace/120 music with jewels.

I like to do this in the clearing south of the Daemon Temple on the Isle of Fire, but I've done it in Destard as well (preferably away from spawn).

I have an area-peace macro set (ie. use peace skill on yourself).

Find a dragon and area-peace near it. Walk up to the dragon and when the music stops (ie. your skill timer resets), start spamming your tame macro. You'll get 5-10 hits in (mostly failures). As soon as the dragon takes a step towards you, hit the area peace macro again.

Regroup and retry.

Once you get a successful attempt, you'll lead-tame the dragon, walking forward while he angrily follows you. In the time it takes to either succeed or fail at the tame attempt, you'll usually take 1 fire breath. (G-drags do 100% physical damage so make sure your armor suit is maxed out on phys resist). If you fail, immediately hit the area peace key. Heal up if necessary and start again.

If you succeed, voila

It took me about a week of dying to get the timing of the macro's down, but now that I have it, it's fairly easy and I rarely die. If you get into a situation where the dragon is pounding on you, just area peace and run away.

Area peace gives just enough time to get into position and hit macros. It's not a long peace like directly peacing a creature, but direct peace often fails on high level monsters like g-drags. Having a dragon slayer instrument helps.

I like this way because I don't need to worry about honor points or really anything... it's all skill based. And there's a little bit of adrenaline involved to keep it interesting

I use the Enhanced client, so the way I have it set up is - the Taming skill is in my hotbar, with the target set to Current. I have that assigned to an F-key, and when I go to tame, I click the dragon to set it as my current target.

That way, I can just hammer away on F8 over and over until either the tame attempt starts, or the dragon breaks peace (in which case, I hit F4 real quick - because that's my Peace - Target Self key!)

If there's a way to define targets in 2D, it can probably be done there too. I just don't remember 2D well enough to advise. (I used KR before Enhanced... amazing how quickly I forgot 10 years worth of the 2D client!)

Wait does it affect his tamed skills if you tame him when he is discorded?
