Help me re-mold my venerable Mage character

I still have my original mage character from many years ago. He's been remolded a few times, but most recently was many years ago when Necromancy was first introduced. He's still in a fairly standard Necromancer template from back then.

I am realizing that my template, and likely my tactics, are basically ... wrong ... now, so I'm looking for help in remolding him and learning how2play (hehe) again.

Right now he looks like...

Magery, 108.3
Necromancy, 100.7
Eval Int, 100
Meditation, 100
Focus, 95.4
Resist, 88.1
Spirit Speak, 85.8

I'd like to keep him a pure mage, if possible, and be able to solo some bigger stuff. I don't have a lot of cash to gear him with. And of course, tactics advice is welcome and wanted, as obviously a lot has changed in that department as well!

That's definitely a good start.

What you want to do now is buy up some higher end skill scrolls for all of your skills except for focus (120 is best, but we can't all afford those) and set your focus skill to down.

Eventually, what you want is 120 magery, meditation, EI, necromancy, spirit speak and resist.

If you're on Catskills and have Saturday evening to play, stop by our Black Market event and we could get you geared up at reasonable prices. You may not wind up with the best suit ever, but at least you'll be able to survive.

One thing you do want to find is a scrapper's compendium and slayer books of all kinds (yes, even the orc slayer books are nice these days!). As a mage, anything you can do to increase your offensive power helps a lot.

And a totem of the void. Any mage NEEDS a totem of the void. But those can get a little pricey (but not so much as a lot of other mage-specific artifacts)

This character has not been moved to Catskills yet, but I'm planning to within the next couple days. :)
