Crystallize Essence Collection Tips

1) Collect at least 12 Corporeal Residue so you don't need to stop every 10 minutes to gather another Corporeal Essence. The residue lasts for 3 hours unlike the essence which expires in 10 minutes.
2) The best way to collect Corporeal Residue is to kill a lot of monsters quickly. Champion spawns are a great place.
3) Mark a rune near the Alchmey table so you can quickly drop off a full soul harvester and get another. Also mark at least one backup in case it is blocked.
4) Mark runes to the lower levels of dungeons where not a lot of players are hunting.
5) Don't bother dropping off collected essence, you are virtually invulnerable in monster form already. It will cut collection time drastically. Once your 10 minutes are up, then bank all the ones you have.

No way man. It would take more than a minute to get all 5 to fill one. Counting just the running. I've been in game for 12 years I know where the dungeons are. I have a book. I've been thru all the levels. The sparklies are not there. Very rarely, you can catch 2 or 3 right there together. Very rarely. Then there are the times where they spawn where you cannot get to. BS meter tingling. It always seems too that the most are found on the 1st or 2nd level of dunny's. I don't know, I don't wanna call you a liar; maybe it's different on my shard, but it most certainly takes more than 1 minute to collect 10 freakin souls.
It is very possible to get 10 - 15 Crystallize Essence in the span of 10 minutes. Although it is slightly more difficult now due to so many spawned in stuck locations now. But I still managed 8 without changing the locations I was using 2 days ago and with lots of competition.

Doing it your way does work and you'll be able to get 50-100 blue crystals and can almost guarantee yourself a robe. But for some of us who aren't so hardcore a 100% guaranteed reward would be better, if im going to put all that time into the quest they should atleast say get 100 or even 200 crystals and get a reward for sure... it might take awhile for some of us to get that many but a guaranteed reward would make us feel like doing it. When I want a chance at a reward I go to the events.

But for some of us who aren't so hardcore
What is so hardcore about trying to increase the efficiancy of the collection process? If you want to collect 1 Crystallize Essence every 10 minutes, that is up to you. I am just explaining how you can get many times that and why making the rewards easier to get will just cause their availability to explode.

The cat statue obviously spawns too much as everyone who does any kind of monster hunting already has a couple dozen. But someone who spends 30 minutes killing 1 Blood Elemental will complain they are too rare.

also the corporeal essence has a greater chance to drop the higher end the creature..
as a example I went and killed swoop 4 times and got four essence which turned me into a vallum (atleast thats what it looked like) I then went back and killed 5 swoops and received 4 essence ! maybe the rng was just on my side but it seems if you can kill high end critters fast this also could be a good way if you have the ability to kill fairly fast!

Im not saying using this way makes you bad... I agree its a very good way for people like me who don't have all day to play. I just feel like the all day players have a better chance at getting a reward cause they can gather alot more than I can with this amount of time I play... In another post a guy used 40 crystals and got screwed out of his reward. In that last week of this event i'll take all my crystals and try for a robe and if I get scred then I guess I just wont get one. Its just the fact that knowing your working toward something that you know you can get makes you work harder and longer.

Using an efficient method as I posted, it will take a maximum of 2 hours of collecting sparkles to get enough crystals (50) for turn in. This event is going on for over 3 weeks. Even the most casual of players can achieve this.

I can also confirm that necro get two shots at getting corporeal residue from a single corpse. I have a macro set up in the client for f1 to use spirit speak. I threw a "use item type" macro on UO assist tied to the moongrass.

This way I can loot corpses without worring about messing up my last object macro. I assigned the macro to f1 and passed it to UO. So when I thump f1 I spirit speak AND use the moongrass. I used a moongrass on a corpse before my spirit speak drained it and got a residue. To my surprise I used the moongrass on it again after I drained the life force from the corpse (turned it from green to grey) and got another residue.

Seems like a bug to me. The moongrass check seems to test the corpse color to verify if you have drained it or not. But it's kind of a neat bonus to necro...on a Halloween event.

Great info JC, and nice video.

I don't get how peeps can complain about an event that will net you such an incredible reward for minimal time put in. Oh, and the yellow gem in JC's bag will net you a cloak quite often.

I think everyone that complains doesn't remember (or wasn't around) during the days when stats crawled up, skills crawled up, and even more recently when Doom first came around and you barely got anything in there even if you spent 10 hours straight down there.

Minimal time if you don't count the waiting for hours for the gypsies to revert to monsters.

it seems as if the level of fame of the monster you collect "Corporeal Residue"
off of determines what form you will be in when you use the "essence which expires in 10 minutes." does this in turn effect the type of costume you get? if so, what should i hunt to turn into a dragon when i use my "essence which expires in 10 minutes?"

More tips to add -

1) Mark 2 runes near 2 separate moongrass. The moongrass can run out of charges. This allows you to make quick pit stops.

2) Deceit and covetous spawns moongrass if you want to save time recalling around or for some reason cannot recall.

3) Stealth mage/ninja rocks for this event

4) Make full use of your monster form well, it's a 10 minute ethereal form/honor self/monster ignore. Not limited to collecting sparklies. Use your own imagination *evil grin*

5) If you are stealthing, using the essence will reveal you. And if you are near mobs, they will target you. Any damage will drop your disguise. So avoid using it near mobs or be prepared to smokebomb/invis once you use the essence

6) As JC says, farm up to 12 residue (or more) at a time, since they last longer than the essence (my wife actually beat me in figuring this out).

7) And this has been stated by many folks - collect the red crystals and use each character to collect a mask from the toymaker using just 1 crystal. This gives 1 for 1.

Once all your chars have collected a mask, then use your main to turn in 5 crystals for 1 mask. This gives 5 for one.

8) Residues can be collected from any mob. Including mobs overland, mobs in doom, mobs in fan dancers (but I'd not gotten any of the special loot from those in Malas and Tokuno though, could be just bad RNG).

Even more tips if you use UOA -

1) Record a macro to use the sprig then change it to "use item type". This way you just hit your macro button

2) When you return to the hag's hut after filling a soul harvestor, record a macro to :
a - use the soul harvester in your pack (change this to use item type),
b - target the alchemy table,
c - pause 1000,
d - use the soul harvester on the table (to collect a new one)

This allows you to do very fast pitstops. You can even add one to collect a sprig from the moongrass.

3) Do not use organizer agent to sort your crystals into a container if you have a level 5 focus :p UOA treats them as the same type of item and tries to move your arcane focus into the container. Arcane focus goes poof if you move it out of your main pack

Since I just started doing the quest yesterday, I am a bit behind so can you explain what you get if you turn in 50 crystals and do all 50 crystals have to be the same color?

blue crystals heal the npc's. its been stated you need to drop as many as 50 on him to get the robe, with 2mr 5 dci and 140 luck (140?)

red crystals can be turned in to Thomas in Trinsic for a halloween costume. 1 red crystal gets u a costume the first time. doing it on the same char for a repeat takes 5 red crystals. thats why people are saying to run each char thru the quest so u can get upto 7 rewards for a crystal each.

yellow crystals summon a harbinger (looks like a black lord oaks) killing him gives a possible robe reward described above though without the luck. i heard 1 in 5 harbingers drop the robe. he is like a peerless type and you most likely cannot solo him unless your running a provo discorder. you can spawn him anywhere. the nice thing about the yellow crystal is that you can keep it and spawn him even after the event is finished. personally i think this is a nice touch.

I ve gotten 5-6 per corporeal essence at off peak times and 3-4 when there is a lot of competition.

If you are in new client drop the soul harvestor onto your hot bar and choose cursor target stored and target the table. This works. One key targeting.

I find that most dungeons have 'hot' spots where it seems more sparkles spawn...could be just me. Anyhow I have marked 3 runes to what I consider good spots. If there is someone one in my spot I recall to another then recall back. I have a macro for use spell recall and just target the rune. It shaves off a second or two vs opening a book.

I agree, I printed out the guide from there and that's what got me through the quest to start with. I hadn't noticed anything about the crystals being turned in for items though. Maybe I was in too much of a hurry to do the quest that I overlooked it. Will look again. Thanks!

Edit: The Crystal information is on the UOGuide page. My old eyes must have just missed it before. :(

Sakkharah said it does affect the costume. Balrons or Succubi can get you that dragon form, as can essence from Harbingers. I would guess the only way to get any form higher than that would be the Harrower or Slasher of Veils (Sakkharah mentioned a Balron one).

I was accused of scripting last night because I utilized allot of the tactics mentioned by JC and Harlequin.

1) I pull my three cemetery runes from my book and put them down the right side of my pack so I can quickly recall in for my Moongrass

2) I start clearing spawn in all sorts of locations: Dojo, Ilsh champ areas, anti-virtue dungeons, etc. and I have my UOA macro set up to hit the moongrass giving me the targeting reticule, so I can quickly hit the dead spawn, turning them green collecting any residue.

3) I then double click the corpses using Ctrl/Shift aka All Names double clicking the corpses to open them up to pull out the scarecrows/cats/tapestries. Depending on what level spawn, the gold (I usually don't pull the gold unless it is 300gp or more)

4.) I move the cemetery runes back into the books and pull the 3 Hag recall location runes out and line them up.
*side note*) I have my F12 key set up as recall/SJ on every char, hit F12, target a different rune for quick recalls moving through my runes from left to right and/or top to bottom makes getting around to best spots very fast.

5) I pull the runes to 3 separate dungeons, different levels and different locations on each level and line them up across the bottom of my pack and it's time to rock the world with the ESSENCE.

6) hit f12 target a dungeon rune, take off running into the red sparkles filling up my empty Soul Harvester...keeping count of how many sparkles I've acquired.

7) as I see # 5 sparkle approaching, I hit the f12 key, walk into the sparkle, target a hag rune...poof, off I go to the hag hut

8) I have pretty much the same macro that Harlequin set up for the hag hut...WAY too many people decide to stand on top of the Alchemy Table and/or the Replacement Soul Harvester making it impossible to target them. I started out invising these morons, but found that the macro makes turning in full and retrieval of empty happens even with ding-dings blocking the view so you can't target them manually and it is MUCH faster as well.

9) hit F12, target the next rune at the bottom of the pack and I'm off to the foot races again.

I can average 9 full Soul Harvesters per Essence (best round I had was 14). I blast through most dungeons very quickly. If I see someone else in "monster form", I hit F12 and head to a different part of the dungeon or a different dungeon all together.

mark multiple parts of the same floor of a dungeon, you'll be swiping all the red essences extremely fast warping around while others are still in running pace.

Thank you!

Edit: I am going to have to guess here that Siege is different from the other shards. I tried to turn in a crystal on a char that I did not obtain the crystal and I was told it belongs to someone else and would not take it.

Ah, good one! I totally forgot to mention this :p

It's much quicker to have the individual runes out instead of opening your runebook and selecting a spot (or put them in separate runebooks and set them as default).

But coz I'd sorted my runebooks nicely and didn't want to screw the order up (runes in my runebook are in alphabetized order...), instead of pulling runes out, I just bought extra runes and marked extra ones of the spots I need.

More dumb questions please. Where do you find the gypsies that have used Jared's potion that you can use the blue crystal on? Do you get anything by just using 1 crystal? Or do you have to use multiple crystals on them?

Last one is in the swamps, below the desert.

It took 50 of the blue one to cure the one NPC in Shame, there are two in the Red Mage tower, and you don't have to stand on the NPC, just get the health bar and apply the cures to that bar. It also took 50 to Cure Carl in Orc dungeon.

ya you may get lucky and hit one that has cures applied to it but they ran out before getting it done, so go in ready to hit it with 50 or more.

Gotta give credit where it's due man. You are pretty awesome at this farmage of sparklies I'll give ya that. And while I don't really like the layout of UO guide, (I like the style of other wiki's better...just an opinion....and some constructive crit).....it is truly filled with terrific info, and has been a big help to me and many others of course.

The thing of it is though, is that most of us don't have all day and night to farm this crap for a cloak that will end up in Luna selling for mills from folks like you (don't take offense...none intended...it's just that some folks have longer to play, etc.)

Another fact that remains is this. Every time I would go to a so called less populated sparkle farm location, there would be clever players like you (and me) already there. Farming, farming, farming. Usually the same powergamer too. The whole blue crystal farm that takes the majority of the player base days to get enough for just one will once again be monopolized, because the fact remains the system it is based on is ridiculous.

I'm still debating on whether or not to turn in the 53 blues I have or not, that has taken me days to get. Maybe some stealth noob will be lying in wait to rob me of my "hard work". Maybe not.

One thing is for certain though. I'll be sure not to buy anything in Luna as I (almost) always have :). (With the exception of PoF.....lol....screw BODS).

UOGuide has the exact same layout as 99% of every other wiki out there. Don't know what you mean by that.

It certainly does not take all day or night. I spent roughly 2 hours working the quest the first day and ended up with 2 robes from turning in blue crystals. Within a week, even the most casual of UO players can gather enough blue crystals as long as they put in the effort.

This is true of just about any aspect of this game. I see alot of folks post over frustrating and time consuming activities. With the exception of taming, there really isn't any system (I have worked with) that can't be mastered quickly.

Powergamers get most of the advantage here. But even long time casual players can get a general feel of how to get things going quickly. Making the right macros is the big difference in most situations.

Also, if possible, the best time to do this quest is when most people are asleep, anywhere between 2am - 8am are often the only times I do this quest now and I find myself competing with very few people (especially on the weekdays), often leaving some dungeons all to myself, some moments I was the only one on Pacific doing this quest and most of the times I have been able to get a garb before server down (6am). I'm often was able to grab 14-18 residue with one moon grass at champ spawn (whirlwind everything), then just grind away on collecting crystals.
