An idea for the UO Char Search

I have a idea for the UO char. What if when you look for a particular character on a shard it could show all the "related" or chars from the same account.

An example of how this would work be like if you searched for Luc on Legends shard. It would bring up Luc then in the corner it would say related chars and it would list Nobuo, Tseng, Maxwell, Tate, Anne Rice, and Elton John.

The only reason I thought up this idea is that recently my sister and I have been griefed by a obnoxious person who switchs from one alt char to another. We know his main char and try to avoid him like the plague, but we don't know all his alts. So he uses alts. to greif people. Not just us but others on our shard as well.

I guess griefing is his playstyle; if you can call griefing a playstyle.

My thoughts were that this would deter this sort of behavior. It could also help the GMs to catch griefers who like to switch chars as soon as they know they've

On the other had I suppose some assinine person could exploit it in some fashion. I just can't think of how atm.

Anyway I wanna hear what everyone thinks.

This works for me.

As almost anyone in my guild knows, I can't keep track of who is who, and will be talking to someone about something so and so did yesterday. After listening to me for 10 minutes trying not o hurt my feelings, they will eventually either say something to teh effect of "I know, that was me", or else spare my feelings if my apparently smaller than average brain, and spend their hard earned RL money in therapy trying to shake off my conversation.

Although, I suspect that GM's already have a way to find all characters on an account.

Ty! I'm glad you like it!

I think the GMs do too. (have a way to find all chars on a account)

Although, I have seen chars that when you target them or type in their char name to page on them you get: "That character does not exsist". Which makes me think "Gee, you mean I've been playing UO so long I'm halucinating freaks and idiots!?" LOL Seriously I think there is some sort of database issue going on with that problem.

Anyway I really think it'd be useful. I was just think how you could go into the ignore feature and type in all the names of a greifers alts. and never have to listen to em again! If that isn't a pleasant though I don't know what is!!

I wouldn't like that at all. I like to get onto one or two of my characters that nobody knows is me every now and then, to just play, by myself, and not be sociable - in fact that reason that those characters are made like that is so that I CAN do just that.

I'd really hate if something like that came into being. If I want people to kinow who I am, I tell them.

I'm with Teeshy here, it's not a good idea. Sometimes one likes to just get away from everyone on the game & do what you want. With this it would be impossible & would cause problems amongst people. That's one of the reasons many play, you can be who you want & no one will know who it is!

I guess there are some drawbacks I hadn't considered.
So I guess, maybe this might not be the win I thought it might be.

I fold.

One problem I see with this idea is the common multi named characters in UO. Names like Joe, Mike, etc and the system picking out characters that are related to the players account that are not actually related to the persons account. and I see players reputations being ruined because someone searching a common name looking for a scammer , and a innocent players name comes up related to the scammers name. so I have to say no to this one

Um... that wouldn't really be a good idea.

Some folks have alternative chars that they don't WANT associated with their mains, for aesthetic or roleplaying reasons.

For instance, a thief or necro char, or their factions or pvp char.

So I'd have to say no.

I have never really been griefed upon in UO.. can you please try to explain what these griefers do that can ruin your game experience?

I thought that if I saw a spammer or simular, I could just ignore them?

This^^ along with the "get away from everyone" reason.

I dont need my main char, which is also in factions, associated with my other chars...as fun as it can be, I don't want to have to be ready to trash-talk some other pvpr at a moments notice, should they decide to start something...when I'm on another character.

I don't need someone to come up and start cussing me out because I stole something from them with my thief...while I'm on another character.

And I definitely don't need everyone I've ever stolen from at Yew gate to decide to gank my faction char because they know I stole stuff from them whilst on my thief.

On top of those reasons, I have other responsibilities in-game on different characters, and I don't need anyone knowing I have a thief...it would most likely ruin my credibility(or how they see me).

It should stay "private"...if I want you to know who my chars are... either I tell you when you need to know, if I decide I want you to know, or you can always ask and if I decide to tell you I will (or not).

Ewww no please... I have chars I don't want people to know are me I like to be mysterious sometimes. =)

I also know about of Guild Masters who would cry if this were implemented when you have several hundred people in a guild always wanting your attention to solve there problems its nice to hide as a nobody...

I'm with Teeshy.

I have some private characters that, while I play them socially, I don't want to be known as me. I don't want people treating me either favourably or unfavourably based on what they think they already know about me as a player.

Also, some people simply don't have the cognitive ability to separate the player from the character. Some people cannot handle the fact that you may play a healer, a thief, an evil lord, a holy priest, etc and each character will respond to them in unique ways. Not all my characters are "nice" and I can do without the inevitable backlash following me to other characters.

There's also no reason griefers couldn't use this info to their advantage, harrassing not only the character they have the problem with but every other character played by that same person.

As fink said, the problem is that this would also tell that griefer the names of each of your characters and those of your sister so that he can the pursue all of them.

Griefers will grief regardless. I don't think we need to give them more tools to work with.

Fink pretty well sums up how someone could abuse the system. I like this idea, but I too have characters that I do not want others knowing are associated with <insert name here>.

Some way to "opt out" of the linkage would be nice ... or perhaps default accounts to an opt-out level and it is up to the account holder to "opt-in"?

Okay here's the low down. (I won't use the actual char names because said griefer could have a hissy about it) There is a red char we'll call Booger. Booger like to hang out in stealth around my fel castle and pk my sis and I coming and going. He likes pking me at champ spawn. This is all OKAY its FEL its what is supposed to happen.

Booger made a blue char we'll call FruityBooty. Now neither I nor my sister knew FruityBooty was Booger. FruityBooty join the Trammie guild my sister belongs to and the very next day guild pks her in Luna.

We didn't know they were the same person until I'm doing Despise spawn and Booger and his buddies raid the spawn. After pking me Booger goes how's your sister? I was huh? Then he goes dead at Luna hahahaha! I reply OMG your FruityBooty! To which he replies "Well DUUUH!"

Just when we though it was over and done this creep decides to torment my sis once again. She is at Luna with a group getting ready to do Melisande. They were wait for a couple of people. When here HE comes on a THIRD char, we'll call WindBag. He proceeds to start talking trash to her and her friends. He openly admits to being FruityBooty/Booger. She and her friends put him on ignore and arrange for the rest of their group to meet them in another location.

Here's what I'm getting at he can continue to be a jerk as long as he has alts that no one knows. Plus he can delete and remake chars so the opportunities are endless. Unfortunatly with no way to know who's who and EA's general apathy to griefing; its pretty hard to protect yourself from this crap. Unless you play by yourself, NEVER join a guild, NEVER do peerless, NEVER Champ Spawn in short do nothing but sit in your UO house. Now that is a WASTE of 12.99 a month IMHO.

Please Note: all names have been changed to protect the guilty and to comply with Stratics ROC

Guild PK is legal.

I fail to find anything in this narrative that justifies irreparably altering the game to the detriment of just about everyone except yourself.

While it may be griefing, making the suggested change will not help at all. It's too easy to cast incognito, use a thief disguise kit, use a name-change token, etc.

I don't think that changing the char search to show related chars would help. There's just too many ways around it. Though I would sometimes like to know who is related to who - for example a house I never see people at I have been waiting to go into decay for years now, it would be great to know if the person still played, possibly the house holder character never gets played but some other character does? So I could get into contact with them more easily and buy their house or whatever.

Though yeah there are times I am on lesser known alts and don't want to be bothered by customers at my vendor house (short on time) or whatever. So it would be irritating to be pegged that way. However I find it really unlikely that someone would do a character search on my characters and find out every one I play just so they could ask me stuff whoever I am on. That seems unlikely to me. I'm a pretty low key player. I guess if you are a big mouth running around and causing problems for other people its a lot more likely that others will be interested in who your alts are.

BTW the kid griefing your sis (I'm guessing male teen or early 20's) sounds like a butthole. Luckily guys at that age tend to have a short attention span. She should just do her thing and ignore him as much as possible and he'll go away and find someone else to get a rise out of.

I think a better solution would be to do what they do with banning characters from your house. You ban one players character from your house. The other characters are automatically on the same account is also banned from your house. You put one players character on ignore that players other characters are automatically on the same account is also put on ignore.

I also don't want people knowing all the characters associated with my account because I feel EA's customer service might at some point hand my account over to someone who says they are me and can name all my characters but they forgot all the other info.

I know it's highly unlikely that EA would do that but given the Return to Britannia event where people were encouraged to call EA with any info they could recall about old accounts, I wouldn't want to take any chances.

I agree that more could be done about griefers however.

I have a person who water barrels my vendor house, which MUST BE PUBLIC in order to have vendors. I can not ban this person as they stealth to do the water barreling.

I have tracking so I know who is doing it.

What I would like to see is the ability to ban people from your house by typing in their name AND having a search done of UO char search that shows me all persons paperdolls with that name on Pac.

I know there are 2 people with the same name. The one who water barrels my house wears an umbra robe the other does not.

I could the target the appropriate character via their paperdoll on char search and Ban them and all their other character's on that account from my vendor house.

It would save me having to page a GM and hope they can do something although the barreler tells me they won't do anything.

Also I am not sure if putting one char on ignore also puts all other characters on that account on ignore. If it doesn't it should.

I really think the entire paging system needs an overhaul.
