Probably not hard at all, but it would be even easier for the person to get a new IP and start again. How hard is it to ban an IP from gamne use?
Many people actually have a 'dynamic IP' meaning that whenever they disconnect/reconnect they will get a new IP instantly. Most wireless (3G etc) internet services work this way and some DSL plans also. People with a 'static IP' can usually just ring their ISP and ask for a new one (or hide/'fake' their IP by using proxy servers etc...).From what I understand, IP addresses are easily faked nowadays. Not to mention that most providers have a number of them they rotate through during use. Banning an IP is generally useless. And banning a series of them hits a lot more honest people than dishonest.
Yeah they can IP ban all day long and the guy will be back tomorrow with one of the other 4 he purchased (if it's static) and he can proxy all day long. There are ways around everything, including the credit card if he is running a business. Many people actually have a 'dynamic IP' meaning that whenever they disconnect/reconnect they will get a new IP instantly. Point made in that one sentence. This particular person on atlantic has been banned. Several times. He has been accused of hacking peoples accounts that log onto his site.
I Did the same exact thing on LS?They will only be removed if people page on them. I saw the guy spamming on Atlantic. Then about 20 minutes later he was still there. So I sent in a harassment ticket. Ten minutes later it said a GM would be speaking with me momentarily about my page. Five seconds later he disappeared from the bank.
If you don't page on people, they won't get banned. If you don't send in bug reports, they won't get fixed.

You can page and send reports all day long and guess what? They will be back. When these guys make a living at UO, do you REALLY think that you calling a GM is going to stop them? That is just like brushing a fly off their shoulder. They turn to the other gazillion accounts that they can open up just for advertisement. I just see the whole thing as being stupid on their part IF they are actually banned. If you see a book on the ground, do you call a GM? Probably not. You call a GM when someone is yelling it at the bank. To me they are wasting their money on accounts... UNLESS they don't actually get banned. Do we all know for a fact that they do? I think not. Who is the person on the other side of the character selling gold for cash? For all I know IT COULD BE A GM! lol I'm not saying it is, but let's get real here and realize that we know nothing about what happens to those accounts and also realize that no matter who is selling gold, you will never stop them.If you don't page on people, they won't get banned. All so true. But I just liked that little sentence posted by JC. Despite that it really wouldn't hurt those players. They probably play a little game themselves to see how long they last until a GM comesYou can page and send reports all day long and guess what? They will be back. Could be, but it sure seems like a waste of the cash they are trying to bring in. Kinda dumb on their part if you ask me.All so true. But I just liked that little sentence posted by JC. Yes, I understand that he can't get banned by IP. He is spoofing them. However this is a federal offense, as he is committing a cyber crime by spoofing IP and defrauding Mythic. I sent all information to the FBI Cyber Crimes unit, notified Paypal, and Mytic as well. If they can't ban him permanently, maybe they can arrest him and stop the insanity./thread
And every time he gets banned, he comes back with new chars same name that you have to keep adding. In the mean time, people keep getting hacked by him.You know UO has an ignore feature in the options, right? This includes the 2D client.
My list is FULL of this person's characters.
All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. EDMUND BURKE
Well then, people will just have to smarten up and not buy gold from him, or better yet anyone else if they want to really be safe. In the meantime just keep adding him to your ignore list if he is really bothering you. Or move on elsewhere and just play the game like everyone else...And every time he gets banned, he comes back with new chars same name that you have to keep adding. Proxy servers arent a federal offense which country you live in?Yes, I understand that he can't get banned by IP. He is spoofing them. That is very true but what does paypal have to do with anything?Yes, I understand that he can't get banned by IP. He is spoofing them. This also.Proxy servers arent a federal offense which country you live in?
I doubt they ban by IP.If he is changing his ip to so he can login to the game servers, he is spoofing ip's cause the ip provided by his ip should have been banned along time ago.
Hacking others accounts is a federal offense, which on the other link he is described as doing so.
Spoofing his IP to defraud Mythic to gain access to the servers after being banned would be a federal offense.
The character that he used to go by was banned years ago. Big time hacker and thief.
So yeah... I reported to the cyber crimes unit.
For some reason I'm thinking of "oh noes! they hacked my megahurtz!"I doubt they ban by IP.
As stated, many have dynamic IPs. If you ban a single IP then someone else on that sub IP will be banned also that plays legit.
Honestly, its annoying but if someone wants to pay for an account just to bank spam. Let em. Its more money for EA/Mythic to play with.
And I LOLed at the cyber crime thing. Thats just funny. Let me know what they say when they get back to ya.![]()
OHHH Yeah! For some reason I'm thinking of "oh noes! they hacked my megahurtz!"
I so wish people would. People won't though. Farmers don't ruin MMORPGs, people that pay the farmers ruin MMORPGs.Or, you know, people could stop wasting their money on in game gold/items and completely put these people out of business.
I don't want to defend him believe me but your concept is flawed. For one thing a crime where us?,china?japan?austrailia?europe?africa?pakistan? Uo is a multi nation game. I doubt you can procecute out side the country let alone the state? Trial account by false preference is not a crime either. Maybe against the TOS but nobody gonna do 10-20. IP spoofing is common I never use my real ip for anything. Second IP can be from a workplace, home, business, wireless, library, school.dorm, game shop, starbucks, hotel so even thinking about ip blocking is ridiculous as the only ip thats belongs to him is the one at home but they can use many others to play.I know three people who claim he hacked their accounts.
I know that his older char was banned for account hacking, and if you google this char's name, you will find a link to a well known guild's site from Atlantic, where they give his name. On this site it also describes how he uses trojans to hack accounts. The person that made the post on that site is a well known and trusted broker who also is well known on this site and as far as i know generally trusted.
That is a CRIME.
Spoofing IP's so that you can log into a trial account under false pretenses is also a crime. He is not paying for these trial accounts. Therefore Mythic can prosecute as well. Theft by deception or whatever you want to call it. Its still theft. Spoofing his IP so he cant be traced goes beyone spamming at a bank. You would spoof your IP if you want to hack an account and not be traced. At least I would if I was going to hack an account.
The big deal is he is KNOWN widely to be a person that hacks other peoples accounts. ITs about much more than a spammer sitting in a bank. Yes, the word needs to get out to put him on ingore, and not to accept any file he might try to send you, and to avoid going to his website. Failing that, authorities need to know he is spoofing his IP to do his business.
Moving on to other areas to play the game like everyone else is part of the problem. This criminal is dependant on a pattern, like most, of honest players ''ignoring'' him and EA/Mythic's complacency. One could argue that EA/Mythic's lack of action is a result of their own greed, but I digress.Well then, people will just have to smarten up and not buy gold from him, or better yet anyone else if they want to really be safe. Moving on an ignoring a spammer is part of the problem? Lmao.Moving on to other areas to play the game like everyone else is part of the problem. Yes, moving on and ignoring a spammer is part of the problem...for ignoring a problem does not make it go away.Moving on an ignoring a spammer is part of the problem? Lmao.
It doesn't mean you can't page if you want to continue having fun. You do realize you can page and then move on and ignore them right? Not that it will do much good but you can still do it.
I don't know about you, but I play this game to have fun, not police people even if they are a supposed hacker. If someone annoys me I put them on ignore and move on with playing the game.
My head just asploded. The solution to this is something they should have done LOOOONG ago; Require a credit card number to activate a trial account.
Funny they did that and was like that for a long time. They removed that when they nerfed trial accounts to not be be ale to do anything so they removed the credit card need. The solution to this is something they should have done LOOOONG ago; Require a credit card number to activate a trial account.
