Every year around Christmas (after we get our gifts), I play a little game. I walk around the most crowded area I can find and I ask, "Anyone here want to be my friend?" Each Shard is given 5 minutes. During that time, if someone says yes, they receive all the gifts I have in my backpack. If they say no, then the gifts are held over to the next year.

Since we received the 12th anniversary gifts this year, I decided to play early this year and I decided to make this the last year I play the game. Here are the results.

Legends - Pass (5th year in a row)
Atlantic - Pass (10 Years running)
Lake Superior - Pass (2 years in a row)
Great Lakes - Pass (First time in 2 Years)
Chesapeake - Pass (First time in 9 Years)
Catskills - Fail (First year failed)
Siege - Pass (Passed every year since the shard went online)
Origin - Pass (3rd Year running)
Sonoma - fail (5 years in a row)
Lake Austin - Failure (2nd year in a row)
Baja - Pass (First time in 9 years have they passed)
Napa - Pass (Lets just say that someone got my Bunch of Dates, the christmas gift one)
Drachenfels - Fail (first year failed)
Europa - Fail (first year failed)
Oceania - pass (every year)

Why do I do this? I get bored easily and sometimes I just want to see what the community is like on some shards.

I am so never moving to Napa or Baja (No Offense Lady Samantha [UTB] and Luna Stripper)

Oh and Pacific isn't on the list as I play pacific :)

Oh, that is you? Well, thank you very much then! Last year I was the lucky one on Drachenfels. I was so surprised that I couldn't thank you before you recalled out.

Nice idea

Some people this year got some very nice gifts. I had a collection of Practice Weapons on Napa that went to Lady Samantha.

It's a shame that the communities on several shards have slowly declined in terms of personality and helpfulness.

It's also strange that the one shard more or less centered around PVP and Fel (Siege) is one of the two who have passed in so many years. I have never had anyone fail on Siege.

At the risk of starting a Tram vs. Fel debate, perhaps Trammel wasn't such a good idea after all.

It's no surprise Sonoma (my home shard) failed. Just illustrates a fact I've suspected for a while now.

Unfortunately for Sonoma, there are a few core players who remain, but most of our "good" blood has gone. All that's left are a few people doing their own thing, and the remnants of a few rag-tag pvp guilds. This low population isn't helped by the number of facets either. I doubt we would get a good mustering at brit bank if it were still only fel, much less with all this land to conquer.

At one time, I would have stood Sonoma up against any shard, as far as community and RP went. We had (in my opinion) one of the most tight-knit communities in UO, with a strong base of player events going at all times. Now, we don't even have a story night, as far as I know. It's a shame what it's become. I remember the Sonoma where we had to schedule weekend events around each other out of courtesy, but I play in the Sonoma where everyone is self-reliant and noone talks much.

Nice to see some friendly people are still left on other shards.

Well I'll be honest, these are characters left over from when I first started the game. I tried all of the shards and found Pacific to be the one I liked. I figure, I am never going to use those gifts and there really is no need to hoard them, so I might as well make someone's day a little brighter.

Besides, it also provides a look into humanity that we all need once an awhile.
