Has the new expansion killed UO?

I know some numbers aren`t being reflected 100% accurate and some people have "unvetted" their toons/deleted toons to make new gargy toons.
However these numbers depicted below.

before S.A. came out there was maybe one guild in this top ten list to have under 100 vet toons in it, Ni guild is missing about 100 of its vet toons, and every guild on this list [cept ~aa~ as its new to this list] has dropped in #`s rather dramatically. Can anyone shed some light on the situation or are that many people really leaving UO???????

The uo.com guilds database, as well as its character search, has not updated for at least a month. Characters (even active ones) have been aging off as usual, but new characters (and active ones) have not been added. As a result, the numbers look much lower than they actually are. If you look at the shard populations when you log in, I believe that you will find Atlantic more populated now than it was prior to the SA release.

For example, United We Fight's membership was hovering in the mid-400s shortly before SA's release. In the past 3 weeks or so, we have added 30 to 50 new characters, bringing us closer to the 500s. Many of our newly-added characters are taking advantage of the "Return to Britannia" promotion, which gives returning veterans a free month of gameplay.

Although it can give somewhat of a general idea of the population I wouldn't think that it is a good indicator. For one that list doesn't include how many people are unguilded. Also this is a sample from just one shard (albiet the most populated one). And from what Syrus pointed out it sounds like that tool is a little borked anyways.

Just to clarify for those whom may have misunderstood my post, I am not being a negative Nancy or saying "the end is nigh"...I like the expansion and have no complaints about it really. Just i got a bit concerned when i saw the drop in numbers of people on ATL. [yes,,i look at the top ten guild list often]
Knowing EA stuffed a lot of cash into UO for this expansion i get a bit worried about its population on the shard i play on.

If anything it has brought back quite a few folks...like me. I have been touting the new SA interface wherever I can.

I'm pretty sure the playerbase has gotten bigger with the new expansion. The promotion to play for free might factor in a bit, but in general I think the SA response has been positive and people are coming back to see what's up.

I didn't return for the expansion, I returned because KR was kaput. Been a good long while since i've played and I certainly do see much less players around then before i cancelled in jan 2008. Was bod running in britain last night and I was the only one near the bank at about 11 am eastern. Shocking!

I do see much more people at lunas bank I suppose the expansion has everyone gathering in the new bank in the new city.

One thing I'd like to know from expansion players, is it really worth the 30 bucks? Is it another solo unfriendly place? I see some of the new pets would be handy for my tamer but if I can get my hands on a greater dragon, I don't see anything better that I can feasibly get in the new areas.

Axiom 1) As I'm sure you know, UO primarily attracts players of the 20+ aged persuasion. As a result, most UO players have jobs - many of them during the 8 am to 5 pm EST time frame. Thus, the 11 am EST time period is not Atlantic's most populated time.

Axiom 2) Even during Atlantic's most populated hours, the West Britain Bank remains somewhat deserted (aside from the faithful few dedicated souls). Luna, due to its compactness and continence to needful establishments - both of the PC and NPC variety - is the hot new hangout. Thus, West Brit Bank will always appear less empty than it once was.

In light of these truths, it is not surprising that you found very players at the WBB at 11 am EST. Even if you meant to say 11 pm EST, Britain would still have few bank sitters when compared to Luna. Therefore, your particular does not reflect the shard's true population, I think. Atlantic remains UO's most populated shard and has, indeed, expanded further since SA was released. Q.E.D.

Within a week of returning, on of the RP community got me hooked up with a big house.

Return to Brit opened my second account (which I will now be paying for as I am having a BLAST after being gone for 5+ years) and I was able to drop a 11x10 or something like that less than 2 screens from a moongate.

There are TONS of open spots, if you arent stone cold set on a 18x18.
