House Fell For No Reason (Chesapeake)

So my house on Homare-Jima island fell for no reason. I got an icq from my friend Ares who lives next door telling me all my stuff was on the ground.

1. The house was not condemned
2. No I didn't place another house
3. No one accessed the account

So err that kinda sucks. Guess my only option is to send it into EA/Mythic who
is just going to tell me sorry for your loss we cannot recover lost or stolen
items thank you for paying us $13 a month.

Anywho just weird. Cant complain to much.

if this really happened, EA needs to do everything it can to check your data. LOL if no one's house is safe then the only reason to play UO is for the PvP, and I think it's painfully obvious that PvP is no longer a big enough draw for most players.

You know me I have to much stuff anyways. I'm sure if I had a list of what I lost I would be waaaay more upset and complaining. Gareth, by any chance was the house on an account that you were using during the Return to Britannia event? Someone else posted a warning today about problems keeping those houses refreshed.

I think your house can become improperly placed if someone places a classic (i.e., pre-designed) house near yours and then converts it to a custom house and as a result changes the amount of space between the houses to something that is below the minimum requirement. I think it also happened to some houses as a result of landscape changes (mostly with hills/mountains) that occurred after the KR and/or Enhanced clients were introduced.

I believe your house is perfectly fine and won't suddenly fall into decay as a result of becoming improperly placed. The only problem is that if you decide to resize it, it's virtually guaranteed you won't be able to plot a replacement house of the exact same size in the exact same location. Depending on other houses around yours, I believe it's very likely you could end up with something smaller for a replacement if you decide to resize an improperly placed house.

You can still trade an improperly placed house to another account...no problems there. And eventually the house may very well become properly placed again someday if the house that caused the problem disappears. (I had that happen to one of my houses that was improperly placed when I acquired it. Two or three years later after the neighborhood became a lot emptier, its status changed to "properly placed.")

All sorts of things change house status like that - in my case, EA tweaked the guard area boundaries around Yew, and my house suddenly became 'improperly placed'. It's never caused any problems, so I wouldn't worry too much about that.

Co-owners can't drop houses. Only the owner can.

I'll clarify the question then - when the house originally came to Gareth, was it as him being made 'co-owner', and then him becoming full owner when the original owner quit?

Edit - And a thought just occurred - were any of the Chessy server problems and reverts at the same time as the downing of the housing/vet reward etc servers?

Uhg, sorry to hear that. Yeah, try to not think about what you lost. I lost a house once and it sucked, but when I remembered what was lost I wanted to cry. I lost something that might have been a one of a kind, but it was an item that reminded me of good times with good friends.

On the up side, at least you get to design and decorate another house!

I can agree that some recourse would be nice. However, if it doesn't happen, is it really worth getting angry/upset and/or stressing out? It wouldn't be worth it for me, anyway.

If you placed this house while on this "return to brittania" program then it decays even although your account is kinda "active" i keep having this problem with my account i am using in this return to brit, luckily enough i noticed it before it fell. Dunno if this is your situation just letting peeps know

Any house that is "grandfathered" ignores the "improperly placed" line. It's there specifically because sometimes the definition of "properly" can change, clientwide or for that specific house. It basically means it was properly placed at one point, and the game needs to ignore the improperly that it is now.

Aye the house didn't show any kind of decay. I thought I activated the account before the Return to brit. Obviously I didn't so most likely it was because of the return to Brit event.

Good news is Dark Morning who is apart of our Village got everything. So that is really really great and he was kind enough to return everything. I am only taking what I was originally donating to the new players and visitors chest. I have enough stuff anyways so I am letting him keep the rest. Sucks to hit an Idoc get all excited then have to return it heh. So I figured id be nice and let him keep most of it. Prolly has more use for it then I. I would prolly box most of it for storage.

I had a character flat deleted awhile ago and I continued to play. If I lost everything I owned in the game, I would probably move on.

Nice! Glad that got sorted out. I've looted stuff and returned it before, I don't want to loot stuff from someone who is still playing. Heck, I built up an idoc character on another shard just to loot someone's house who was quitting, left everything I got in that char's bank, and when the player returned a few months later msged them and gave it back. And this was some nice stuff too!

Stuff is stuff, it's nice to have, but you can't beat making someone else's day.

I logged in one day and everything was gone from my backpack. Just a blank brown bag. Called a GM and they would do nothing about it. I was not happy as I had some ASH hammers and runics in there and all my runebooks and things. Was a very strange thing indeed. And it was just on the one character that I logged out in moonglow. I about had a fit over that so I can't imagine losing an entire house! ugh

Been there, done that, it's so 1997/98. So glad not to have to deal with that anymore, but... it's not the end of the game.

Won't say it wouldn't suck bigtime though. It'd cause me to take a break, that's for sure.
