The iron beetles that were made as a new tameable pet in sa for miners is impossible to use. most mule/crafters already have their temp's full with other crafting skills. an iron beetle is great to help mine ore and gems, but how can a mule use it when you need taming to control? i can't possibly fit taming on my mule at all. is there a way to fix this so anyone can control em? i don't have the time to make another miner with taming JUST to be able to control an iron beetle. perhaps this was an oversight? please look into this devs!!! PLEASE!

In the past not every miner was a pure mule. this pet pushes towards being crafters not mules.

Who says that? All i have heard/read so far is, that no one seems to know, what makes an iron beetle so special. Unless they can beat a shadow/valorite elemental, theres no much reason for having mining on a tamer/taming based template.

Who said the new beetles were made for miners. Just cause the beetles can mine doesn't mean they are for mules and crafters. They could be a beetle that can kill and mine while they not busy killing

How does your mule Mine? Mine just follows my Miner so I can put ore or logs in their packs.

Ok well first of all, they cant fight crap...but i dont know very many people who would mine all the time with gargoyle pickaxes anyways...one reason being so that you dont mine up any kinds of elementals so its just easier to make your own pickaxes or shovels...

2nd of all, the iron beetles mine ingot, stones, and gems for you...thats wat makes them so special...

3rd of all...that was the whole point of the post...theres no reason for having to put taming on a miner because the only thing they do mine for you...so i think they should be able to own them without taming...

Maybe if you had a character who wasn't just stuffed with crafting skills you could get taming, get an iron beetle, and involve yourself in the community a bit to make up for the lack of skills on the character.

I know that. But it is very occasionally that it 'mines' for you. Unless you are 'script-idling' in a house with a mining spot the mining results are not very exciting.

Unfortunately I havent been diligent enough to get one for myself and some testing. Is it still 4 follower slots? If yes it should be at least en par with a skree or a reptalon when it comes to fighting. Thought it should be trained before.

The supply of garg picks is the problem. The drop rate on gargoyles is not that high and if you try via bods, you end up with way too many prospector tools. Btw the main reason to mine with gargoyle picks is to dig out elementals. 25 extra ores making a huge difference on coloured ore. If you simply want the ore upgrade from a garg pick mine in town and call for the guards everytime an ele shows up.

Indeed .... simply use 2 soulstones and put mining onto your tamer ....

The question still is: What makes an iron beetle that special? It needs 4 follower slots and has a good taming requirement. For a miner/mule there are the giant beetle (3 followers, ridable packy) and the fire beetle (3 followers, walking forge). Both are way more usefull for a miner.
I have very few ideas, that could make an iron beetle worth 4 followers ....
- If it could convert resources. Like eating ore and pooping granite of the same colour or upgrading ore/ingots/granite to its own colour.
- If it converts a mining spot into its own colour. (I heard those iron beetles exists in different ore colours.) It even could work the way that you have to somehow feed the beetle with one ore colour and it changes the colour of one ore spot to that colour.)
Either way ... if you want to have an iron beetle out while mining, I would suggest to have two accounts (or help from a friend). Soulstone mining onto a tamer, get your iron beetle and let a fire beetle be friended to that miner. (That you actually act like if you are out with a fire beetle for smelting and can test the iron beetle.)

Doesn't the beetle only rarely mine up one bit of ore?

Why would you want to use it for mining???
In the time it takes to mine twice with the beetle you could have already done so much more mining!

the reason why i would want to mine with my iron beetle is so that while i am mining myself, i can get more mined in less time doing both mining myself and mine with the beetle than just mining myself or mine with just the beetle. besides while im mining, it could also dig up some gems for me too in the process while im mining for other things.

So it should be crap. :wall:

Its amusing that;
4 slots = worst pets in game.
2 Slots = best support pet. (See Bake/Nightmare/possibly the new bouras)
3 Slots = best tank for support pet. (see Rune Beetle/Dread Warhorse/Highland boura?)
5 Slots = best tank (see Greater Dragon)
1 Slot = amazing dps, but little tanking.

Why are all the 4 slot pets (save for the cu which is restricted to elves only, or need SHOES to tame so are completely useless for a gargoyle. On top of that the gargoyle can fly, so why waste a slot, and just go with a GD.) crap?

No one ever said the iron beetle was for miners. That being said it is a bit weird that you have to beat down tame them, like all the other crafter usable beetles.

PS - They don't come in different colors, they change colors based on what ore they eat.
