Murdok Comes To Siege......

Well after 11+ years of playing UO I have finally decided to try my hand on Siege. So far with the exception of a couple super dragon reds everyone here has been super nice! I do have a couple questions though!

1.) is there a market for resources? I dont mind mining and cutting wood to earn my way on my secondary account.... Where is the best place to put wares up for sale with as I have no access to any vendor to use. Going rates seem pretty stable from what Ive seen other then the fact that alot of resource vendors seem to be empty!(thus the thoughts there may be a market for resource)

2.) is there a demand for crafters? I figure that in time I will get the basic skills built up as I gather resources.....

Im not here to make a fortune I just want to be able to be self supporting and dont mind putting in the effort to do so. I know that things work different here(never thought Id be shearing sheep for cloth!) then on a prodo server but I dont mind the extra effort!

Any tips or other useful info?

Get ICQ if you don't have it. Handy to keep in touch with people real-time, and a large percentage of the more sociable people here have it.

PM me or add me to ICQ (528-5549) and I'll set you up for some no-commitment-required minion work. I'll be off work in 3 hours.

Welcome to Siege and good luck!

Resources - yes there is a strong market for resources. Remember that NPC vendors here do not sell ANY resources. Prior to SA, cloth, barbed leather and verite ingots sold VERY well. With the new changes to SA, my guess is that resources will have value in the following ranks:
1. Cloth - people will always need bandages and to fill bods.
2. Regular leather - with imbuing, my guess is people will just make regular leather items and imbue it to their satisfaction instead of using spined/barbed/horned.
3. Special leathers - people may still try to enchance stuff after imbuing it.
4. Ingots - people use them to fill bods, but not sure they're that valuable anymore.
5. Wood - not very popular at all. Regular wood is almost a throwaway as everyone goes around and hits trees looking for bloodwood or ash.

For a vendor, you can advertise on Stratics, advertise at Luna bank. After a few transactions you'll realize that there are a select few people that will just about ALWAYS buy your resources and you'll just send them an icq when you have some.

2. Crafters. Yes there is a demand. not sure how SA will affect things. People will ALWAYS buy pvp supplies. Things like ninja equipment (smoke bombs, fukiyas), apples, potions will always sell well. Blacksmith equipment rarely sells. Leather armour sells well too, but not sure how that will be affected by SA. Remember you'll need arms lore on a tailor/blacksmith.

Yes, get ICQ if you don't have it. I am @ 481186629 .
Farming here can sometimes be a challenge, so if you can
fit it in your templit use hide & stealth . Till you get to
know your farming areas and who comes looking for you ;).
We have a assortment of Pk's that will run their rounds a few times a day
to see who's about and doing what. Don't stay in one spot. Move around
as much as possible. A far as a good spot to sell, Yew is a hot spot.
Get a vender in thier. Post here on the forums for it and someone will get you
hooked up. Luna is a hang out spot here as well. Although you may never see many , we all use hide/stealth in one shape or another.
Siege can never have to many crafters , farmers and the like.
Don't get discouraged when you get killed here. Just move on and keep on at it.
Welcome to Siege Perilous and I hope you enjoy it. ICQ me anytime or PM.

Check out NEW if you care to. Even if you don't need help, it's socially satisfying to be in a group with people to talk to while you mind numbingly work away in front of the looms.

People here are far more social than on other shards. Say 'hi' in Luna bank, chances are you'll get a response. Also be careful in luna bank, thieves are about =).

Guards are turned off at all faction towns (britain, skara, trinsic, yew, etc).

READ THE SIEGE INFO STICKY. Lots of rule changes between Siege and other shards, particularly regarding skill gain. It's all in there.

Never travel with more than you can afford to lose, because you will lose your stuff often.

You may want to let us know where you played for 10 years, you never know! Maybe a few old guildmates or friends hanging around.

I played Chessy 98/05, Cats 05/06, Atl 06/08 and Siege for the last 20 months or so!

I have never logged back into a prodo sever, happy as a clam here!!!

If you need anything or want to sell arrows or bolts icq me (it's at the bottom)

Woot!!

welcome to siege . yes we need resources , yes we need crafters , yes we need more people . many here will also enjoy the fresh blood . most people will take the time to talk to you and help where they can . of course we have some who will delight in making a newbie cry . they justify it by saying it teaches you the reality of life on siege. only thing i can say there is , dont let it get to you . stick it out long enough to get trained and then have fun dishing out the cold order of revenge.

the guild "newborn on siege"(NEW) is a great place to start . we dont have "young " status here so the players came up with our version of "young" . most here will respect the new flag and leave you alone. many wont of course , but it does help.
i , like many people i know, will frequently donate items to NEW. (stuff that is ok but to us just takes up space) , but for someone new , its nice.

read the "mythbusting" sticky . it will tell you what you need to know about "rate over time" skill gain . (scroll down . the first info is old)

ROT may seem like a slow way to gain skills , but for many skills (especially the crafting skills) its so much better. for instance you dont stand there hammering out hundreds of items just to get a skill gain . you log in . make one thing = BAM instant gain . log back in 10 min later . BAM ... (repeat as desired) ... saves tones of resources =)

even if you thing youll be fine by yourself , consider joining NEW just for the month of experience . watch the major players and see who does what . it wont take you long to get the big picture . i could tell you who the "bad guys" and who the "good guys" are , but it becomes pretty obvious if you are paying attention. oh , and you cant go by what people say here iether . some are very good at painting a rosy picture . make your own opinion . after all its the only one that counts.

Are you planning on being a crafter? Pvmer? Pvper? a little of all?

There are several routes you can go to get started.

I have vendor space at my place in yew if you need one.

Lets see......
The two servers that I have spent the most time on were Catkills and Lake Superior. The majority of my "trammy" life was on Cats then I had a few friends on LS and they talked me into moving a couple chars there. And thats where Ive been for the last 6-7 years other then doing a little server hopping with some friends to have some fun.

At one time I was one of the HC for a guild on LS called OMEN..... we were quite ruthless so the pvp life doesnt bother me at all! Those friends have all but left the game and Ive spent the last year or so just hanging out and decorating my castle, but you can only do so much with that! haha

I will have a couple chars here one a crafter and another will be some cross between pvp and pvm char depending on how things go! I plan on using the crafter/gatherer to support my other char.

Ive already started working up on the crafter char now its all about time!

30-35 tink skill trap boxes sell for 10-12k per. People seem to be buying magic residue so start unraveling the crap from your pvp/pvm training and put it on a vendor. Cloth sells, I imagine we are all going to be using alot more regular leather nowadays with imbuing. The lower end runic hammers also have good uses. Bolts of cloth always seem to sell well also.

Keep your char human for the time being for the joat.

Shoot me a pm if you would like a vendor spot free of charge and i will get you set up with one and a bit of starting change to keep it up and running till you start filling it up with gold. I'll be in game in about an hour.

Greetings and welcome to siege, Murdock! This is a fairly decent shard to play on although if you're gonna be a crafter you will have to be very careful cause we have this one guy on the shard who really goes out of his way to track down and crucify crafters! No one knows what his motive is other than just being a pure p***k! So welcome to siege and just be on the lookout for this loser cuz he's a real pain in the arse at times. I would suggest you join the NEW guild to protect yourself from culprits like this. But anywho welcome and enjoy!

I dont know if this is pointed at me or not.........

But anyway..... 48 hours or so into starting....... Ive already got a nice start on my crafter and have placed a small plot...... Now to gather up enough to sale for walls and a roof! hahah

I will say that the general public of this server will bend over backwards to help a new player here. From all the offers above you would not find that on a normal prodo server! This is something that you guys should be proud of!

Also, I have come to the conclusion that arrows and bolts sell quite quickly! So its time to start chopping more trees and slaughtering more chickens! Maybe by Sunday I can get more of my little house done!

If you go hang out at the swoops when somebody's farming them, and ask politely, you can get a crapload of feathers from them as I recall.

Don't bring much if you do go there though, since it's a popular spot to check for the stabby folk.

And Diablo was laughing at Cheapsuit's comments.

While most people don't consider crafters worth the trouble of killing, Cheapsuit provides some much needed peril for them. Nobody should have an easy time on Siege, and Cheapsuit fills the crafter-killing niche when everybody else has better things to do =]

You sound like a Pro, so I'd say you don't need NEW. They are for real
Trammie people that have no idea about what's going on here.
You sound like you have your stuff together. Besides you only get 1
month in NEW and then they ship you off to their NEW factory guild
called GiL, H&H,JSV and a couple others. So just do your own thing.
Also stay as far away from that Diablo guy. He's a A+ scammer & rip off artest.
Siege is fun and exciting. The thrill of losing everything around the next corner
is thrilling for most. Like I said, unless you are ultra trammie stay away from NEW.

I'd say NEW would be good if for no other reason than to play with some people around your own skill level, and develop some contacts.

EXCUSE ME ??? !!! *kicks Elfstone in the nutz*

I joined NEW in 2004, cuz I got to meet peeps there, including others like Patty Pickaxe, and right after me a whole pile of CiB ummm Wakas come here, bout 35 of em and they too; many of them enmasse joined NEW and they were also from Chessie and ancient UO souls many of them ie pre trammel.

And many others whom come here, also, were playing UO before there ever was a darn trammel (or even a Delucia !) The lost lands, was my first *expansion pack* !

While NEW guild is not for everyone, for some it was our first guild here and our first exposure to ALL of Siege's guild leaders/peeps red blue pink purple orange or gray peeps, all via NEW guild, as well as meeting other immigrants that were fed up with trammel and insurance so they came HERE ( like myself). That don't make us trammy borns by a longshot, Elfstoney one ! !

You mean "most profitable at the moment"?

Once the imbuing fad settles down, I'm sure I can pull in more consistent gold over time than most crafters.

QFT

Even if you NEVER use NEW for equipment, advice, training, etc - I always preach that it can be a great way to meet and socialize with other people who are also new and training up. Without a doubt it helps solidify friendships which are very important to ones happiness on a shard.

Yes it was differant back then for you older people but even when I was in NEW 3 years ago you had more choice I guess of where you wanted to go. Shalimar had people from all guilds come by to take people on hunts and meetings. Maybe now a days it's only GiL and the likes that are doing that. It just boils down to when I see a NEW & 2 min later I see GiL raiding, then who is NEW working for? You don't have to be a Trammie to join NEW but it seems that all the new people coming from Trammel do. This guy doesn't sound like the type that needs a hand out from a guild like NEW. He sounds like he has his double whopper with cheese together and has already begun a great adventure in a new land. SIEGE :p

Yes, I completely understand why people feel like NEW is a GIL recruiting ground - because a lot of NEW recruits end up there. It's not because NEW in any way is a feeder for GIL, its simply because of a lot of factors that add up and lead to this.

Let me rephrase what you said Elf - "Yes it was differant back then for you older people but even when I was in NEW 3 years ago there were more guilds to chose from. People from all guilds would voluteer to come by to take people on hunts and meetings."

There really isn't much variety in guilds nowadays. Lets look at the top 10 guilds on Siege:

1. Gilfane 62 - Part of GIL/CWS/WCB alliance
2. Treasure and Treachery 29 - Part of TNT Alliance
3. The Siege Professionals 25 - These guys don't recruit newbs
4. Terror and Anarchy 23 - Part of TNT Alliance
5. Citizens of Wispwood Shire 18 - Part of GIL/CWS/WCB alliance
6. Crusaders of the Eight Virtues 18 - Part of HHSF Alliance
7. Vengeance 18 - Part of HHSF Alliance
8. White Council Britannians 18 - Part of GIL/CWS/WCB alliance
9. DELUCIA TRADE ASOCIATION 12 - These guys are not very active.
10. Go show Ha 12 - These guys I believe are an all Japanese guild.

So really, what are your options? SP doesn't recruit, neither does C8V/JSV. TNT does, but is not active with NEW - that pretty much leaves GIL/allies.

The biggest factor in determining where a new recruit will eventually go is PRESENCE. They need to know you exist if they want to decide to join you. Most of GIL came from NEW - and most often former NEW members come back to NEW to donate items, help out, and just chat with Shalimar. What happens when 2-3 GIL show up at the NEW GH, chat with Shalimar and any young folk that are there? Well they see the presence of GIL. Couple that with the fact that GIL sometimes takes NEW on hunts, where do you think they will join?

I can honestly say I've NEVER seen any NEW leader push a NEW towards any specific guild. 80% of the time, a NEW member has made up their decision as to where they want to go with little to any input from the NEW Leaders. The rest of the time one of a few things happen, NEW members ask about guilds they've seen and make a decision based on that, NEW leaders ask NEW members what playstyle they enjoy and recommend guilds that fit, or we just list out most of the active guilds that are recruiting and let them ask questions.
