Howdy folks.

I am thinking of returning to Britannia, but I'm not sure if I will like what I find. I played the game from beta all the way to Age of Shadows, but quit because I found the game too item centric. I'm not a powergamer, I just like to wander the land looking for adventure and not getting killed constantly.

My question is: is the game still item-centric? I remember when we switched to Age of Shadows that my once grand armor and weapons now had minimal resists(the new armor class) and I spent a huge amount of time trying to re-equip myself before I gave up and quit the game entirely.

I remember people talking about carrying 2-3 sets of weapons and multiple sets of armor depending on what they were going to fight. Is this still necessary? I really don't have the time to invest in that complicated a game.

Also, how simple is the new interface? I remember having to use UOAssist just to get by back in the day. Is this still necessary?

So... should I download the client and go for it or skip it and go fire up the old single player Ultimas?

Thanks all!

(and yes its still very item based)

It's still item based, but effective weapons and armor are *much* easier to obtain than they were when AoS came out (and so is gold). You should check around your shard and see if there's a group of players that'll help you get adjusts. Most shard have one... which shard are you on?

Still item based. With the "Return to Britannia" Promotion wouldn't cost you anything to give it a try.

After all, it IS free, so the only thing you have to do is log in and find it out. You might ask if it's worth to prolongue the subscription further, that is the task you have to find out, by logging during free period.

As other posters mentioned... yes its item based but it is really not that hard to get a decent set of armor and weapons.

Most shard have active guilds, that will help out new and returning players.
If you are on Europa shard look for people with the "Saor" guildabr. and Iam sure you will be hooked up with some nice items to get you started.

I returned myself a month ago and I have used the new Enhanced client sinde my return... I like it very much and I no longer see a use for UOA.

Give it a try... its fun and free :)

As all have said, it's still item based, Armor is easy to find or make for that matter. Most people are willing to help, ya there are those few too that won't, but most will. I would DL the older 2D version you played back then to get your feet wet again before you DL the new Enhanced Client (more difficult to use if your not accustomed to that type of interface) & use your UOA, (if you had UOA & lost Info of old acct info, it is obtainable thru UOA website & free http://www.tugsoft.com/UOAssist/locate_key.asp ) There is so much more land to travel & with the new expansion, dbl what was before easily. GL & welcome back if you do decide to retry the game, heck it's free why not :D

I respectfully disagree Sir! :)

I mean comming back is a perfect time to use the new client, and I dont see how its more difficult to use??
Just make sure you go to user settings and disable ALL legacy options and you have a winner client!

Please do yourself a favor and start using the new client, after a few mins getting used to, you will love it!

Hmm. I was in the closed beta and I wouldn't say this. At least not yet. There's a reason why the EC is still in beta stage. I wouldn't suggest this client to any new or returning player until it's released as a finished product.

I agree with Zayin. The OP stated that he didn't want to 'need' UOA. The EC 'needs' UOA less than the LC(it's not technically possible to use UOA with the EC, I think,).

Another reason to use the EC would be if the OP has played other MMOs. The EC is alot closer to how other MMOs work, with the hotbars, targeting and typing.

I've used the KR/EC client for a while because of the intuitiveness of it's design.

To the OP, if you've got the time, the client and game time is free right now. I can't see a reason to not try it, seeing how you are interested enough to even consider it. As others have said, the game is still item based, but it shouldn't be that difficult to build a couple suits for the simple traveling and exploring it seems like you'd like.

There are quite a few guilds out there that will help new chars. I'm a loner by nature, but if you play Chessy, I have no qualms using one of my few Bronze Runic Hammers(not the best, but decent) to make a suit or two for someone.

On a side note. I believe there is alot more to explore now than just after the release of AoS.

Considering all of the bugs that still run rampant in the Legacy client even after 12 years, I think the Enhanced client is very comparable... and since it is most likely getting the main focus for new development and bug-fixing, I think it is a great time to switch.

But then... I never used UOA or UOAM so am not dependent on the crutch some of their additional features provide that are missing from the new client.

The additional features that have been added into the Enhanced client have been really nice!
