New Sampire

I've changed my macer to a sampire. So far I'm really impressed. While I am still learning to play the template, I have managed to take down para balrons with just some smart running around.

Right now I'm 118 mace, 115 tact, 100 bush, 100 resist, 100 parry, 99 necro and the rest in chiv. I also have 100 anat stoned.

I'm really wanting to start on dreadhorn and some doom runs. I'm still working up my sacrifice. What would be my chances against these monsters? SHould I wait till the skills are higher or should I be able to take them on now?

Also, I know I need a lot of potions. How many do you all usually take when going after the big stuff?

Wait until your char is finished before you start on the big boys. You're almost there, so it won't take but a very short time.

Why do you have tactics at 115? That should be GM for a Sampire template. What template are you using?

I just converted my macer over. Only 100 tactics? Where should the extra skill points go?

The standard Sampire template is:

Wep Skill 120
Bushido 120
Parry 120
Tactics 100
Anatomy 100 (or Resist 100 for Doom)
Necro 100
Chiv 60

If you want to use healing instead of parry, you can go 120 tactics though. Mine looks like:

120 swords
120 bushido
120 tactics
100 anatomy
100 healing
100 necro
60 chiv

I don't understand why the standard template is 100 Tactics, 100 Anatomy. Both of these skills serve the sole purpose of increasing your damage, correct?

According to the formulas for Damage Increase on the Combat page, the DI would be as follows;

100 Tactics, 100 Anatomy -> 123.75 DI
120 Tactics, 80 Anatomy -> 126.25 DI
80 Tactics, 120 Anatomy -> 115 DI

Moreover, tactics is consistent damage increase, while the anatomy bonus can fail the passive check and not add any damage.

Wouldn't those 200 points be better invested as 120 Tactics, 80 Anatomy? That or I'm missing something here.

There's a damage boost at GM anatomy. http://www.uoguide.com/Anatomy
Hrm, conflicting sources.

The Damage Calculations on UOGuide don't mention any bonus.

Not to mention, the formula listed on that anatomy page where it states the +5% bonus, doesn't match the numbers listed in the table directly below it.. I'm not convinced. The table does however match the formula I used in my above calculations.

I do notice that it says there is a 2 second bonus to Evasion. Maybe this is the reason. Is a 2 second Evasion bonus worth more than a permanent 2.5% DI? Are there any other undocumented perks I'm missing?

You run healing instead of parry? I'm used to no parry. Can you still take on peerless and doom bosses without the parry?

And what about just switching out parry & healing depending on what you are going after? I've not been using evasion at all so far. Just CW & LS.

Paroxysmus is better with healing IMO, but for soloing other stuff I use my wraith instead of my vamp, so I dunno.

UOGuide don't mention any bonus.
UOGuide is not an official source of information. The site is incomplete, and in several cases that I've seen, incorrect. The site is updated by players, not by anyone with EA/Mythic. It's an ok reference tool, but I wouldn't be basing anything on the so-called "facts" that are on there.

From uoherald.com (skill: anatomy):

Damage Bonus % = anatomy / 6 (+ 5% if anatomy at 100.0 or higher)

But the official playguide is also often outdated or incorrect (Case in point - spellweaving). In this case, however, we in the often-posting-on-stratics-playerbase tend to believe that the 5% bonus is accurate.

Just remember you want to have the full fledged benefits of both GM anatomy and GM tactics to reach the full benefit of evasion. PUB 43 made it so. Link for your own reference:

* Evasion duration now scales with Bushido skill
o If the player has higher than GM Bushido, and GM Tactics and Anatomy, they get a 1 second bonus
o Evasion duration range:
+ 3-6 seconds w/o tactics/anatomy
+ 6-7 seconds w/ GM+ Bushido and GM tactics/anatomy

Bonus modifier to parry range: (these are the ranges for the evasion modifier)

* 16-40% bonus w/o tactics/anatomy
* 42-50% bonus w/ GM+ bushido and GM tactics/anatomy

Seems like it's a 1 second bonus, but also 10% more evasion (so 50% max)
