Is wrestling needed for PVE?

I'm considering this build for my gargoyle

imbuing
mysticism
magery
eval int
meditation
alchemy
resist spells

Alchemy just cause I have no room on my main crafter for it. Now my question is, can I have the buff 'protection' on my character in lieu of wrestling? Is that feasible? I don't plan on doing any PVP on this character.

You could equip a mage weapon instead of wrestling, but will be hard and expensive for the right one (-20). Then need to compensate with jewels. I'm thinking a mage -20 boomerang or something.

Protection spell is a plan, but remember it knocks your resist spells down. Anything under 105 RS feels like it's not worth much.

Some people do not even bother with resist spells, but I feel uncomfortable without. Some say Stone Form can be used to act like resist spells (to counter ill effects).

Another thing. Since you have alchemy, you can drink gr strength and gr. agility potions for more effect. Use gr heal pots too.

Just remember that pots have a timer attached to them. Um...depends on your play style. I'm a resist type person too for a mage. Lots of spellcasters like to leech back mana which can be problematic.

Even wrestling is good for disarming enemy NPC's that pack a weapon.

Protection will drop your resist -35, but...it's handy to use at certain times. So, if really you did it right, you can get by w/o resist. Your choice. Me...I like resist.
