Old school player pondering returning.

I have been considering coming back to mess around, its been around 7 years now. but i had a couple quick questions.

First of all, i assume the only way to get a house is to buy one? As probably every open spot is taken on every server. Just wondering if this is the case.

Secondly would it be more worthwhile to load up my old account and upgrade it, or just create a new account. I don't think i have much left on the old account besides the characters.

It's relatively easy to find spots to place a tower or an 18x18. I started back up about a month ago with my old account, and was able to place a large tower on LS in Malas.

Secondly would it be more worthwhile to load up my old account and upgrade it, or just create a new account. I don't think i have much left on the old account besides the characters.

Depends on what skills you have on the chars. Plus any items they have in possession may be rares now.

I'd say go with your old account - all you'll need to do is buy the SA upgrade and you'll have access to all the upgrades before it.

You can gt a house anywhere. however bigger homes are rarer.

It is very probable that you can place a house, in either Felluca or Trammel. I do not know if custom houses were available when you left, but they are now in the game. I would suspect that you can find, fairly easy, a place to build a 18x18x3+Roof house.

With little doubt, it would be better to upgrade the existing account for if nothing else the veteran rewards that you may be entitled to or use, unless of course there were other mitigating factors.

So if i recall i have characters and stuff on at least 4 servers. I used to play on Napa Valley myself, but id prefer to go with an east coast server since well... im on the east coast. Ill have to see what i have where.

He he, I sold mine off because I was never comming back to UO

Well I pay for that choice every day of my 18+ months back in the game. And it is all in the Veteran Rewards.

Im pretty sure i sold off most of the gold etc. But the account is still here. I went to uogamecodes to upgrade but it told me the account is too new. I assume i have to reactivate it first oops.

If you still have characters you can purchase transfer tokens to movet hem to the east coast as well.

Yep i reactivated and upgraded. Now im deciding which shard to play on. Most all my chars have skill builds that seem pretty useless these days. I have some money and items on a few shards though. So i'm not yet sure which to play on.

if you do not wish a keep or castle, Malas should be ripe on nearly any shard for spots up to a classic style tower or custom 18x18 plots.

I'm in NY and play Lake Austin (west coast) with little issue on TimeWarner Roadrunner. Heck, even the new SA Enhanced client has no issues performance-wise on LA.

Choose a shard yet? Great Lakes is a fun place and always a few housing spots available.

I would suggest you take your time.

Go to Test Center (TC1 on the shard selection list) and begin to come to terms with the changes.

Take time to go scout out all the other shards and see which one you like best.

There is an area in uo.stratics.com for shard specific forums. This may also help you in your selection.

Feel free to ask here about .... the changes if they don't make sense to you and if anyone snowballs you with acronyms and technobabble just ask them to slow down and please explain (if they can) things in a more detailed/understandable way.

There are a number of very knowledgable posters on this forum and I have always found them to be helpful.

I haven't yet decided. My main charactesr are on Napa Valley. I also have a couple on Great Lakes. My uncle has characters on Lake Superior and Atlantic. So lots of options lol. Id like a decent size community, im not into PVP right off the bat ( i used to way back, so im sure eventually).

Mostly i have read up on whats what nowadays. I have an idea of what characters i'd like to try out. And i have read up on the new item system (i played back when a Supremely Accurate Silver Vanquishing Katana was best) Lol.

So ill check out the shard forums i suppose.
