Enhanced Client users cannot fully enjoy SA Expansion!

Although EA advertised the Stygian Abyss expansion with Enhanced Client videos and screenshots, you cannot enjoy a lot of the new content.

REASON:

The Enhanced Client freezes and eventually crashes when field spells are being cast. Same happens with flowing lava, for example near the eastern exit of the Stygian Abyss dungeon. Many of the new monsters cast the new field and nova spells, which freeze the client for 5-30 seconds (with each spell longer), until it will finally crash. The events introducing the expansion were unplayable with the Enhanced Client for the same reason.

It seems that the animation somehow causes the client to cause a memory leak on the graphics adapter, no matter how fast it is.

THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED ASAP!

That would've required a patch for KR so that it could play the SA content. They'd basically have to support three clients, so in my opinion that just wouldn't be feasible.

Anyhow, this is probably THE major issues that all possible manpower should be working on if they want their client to be successful. It is also an issue that has been brought up repeatedly over time (at least since open beta, I don't know what went on behind closed doors) with little public feedback.

I'll even put it above my personal pet peeve issues (Pointer displacement and large party issues).

Thank you for your diligent testing of the new client. I dont use it but others do and hopefully the devs will fix these and any other issues.

A similar problem is faced when fighting the Slasher of Veils... It's constant uses of the field spells eventually causes so much client lag thats it is unplayable.

And 1 out of 5 times when it uses the spell where the screen flashes my entire screen either goes black and stays black, or anything white turns black and I can only move at a crawl. (While the rest of the players in 2D are unaffected...)

I do not use the enhanced client I would but no UOAM and well most know, But a while ago there was a thread about a good sized memory leak in the EC. Could that not slow down and eventually freeze/crash the client?

I use EC exclusively. Since SA is not playing nice with EC, then I'm glad uogamecodes is busted and glad I didn't get SA. The 7th char slot + SA = too much money for a sub-par experience.
It all needs to be fixed.
I'm getting more and more dissapointed by the day. The pluses are not outpacing the minuses.

Well if EA would catch a clue, and hire from the community, we'd probly have the enhanced client we all want. I could do some of the graphics I've seen better in photoshop in 2 minutes. It's horrible. Releasing a product in beta and charging for it... when did people really start paying for nothing and accepting sales jargon for customer support? I mean, have you seen the new shortbow graphic in the 2d client? It's laughable... if I released something that bad I'd fire myself.

Why would you pay for the enhanced client? It's always been free.

I know. And I'm a bit relieved that you read this. However, it would be great to have some kind of roadmap concerning the Enhanced Client. It would be a shame if this client would lead to a dead end as well, like the KR Client.

I understand that you were (and probably are) busy with the release of SA, but still it would be appeasing to know that you have not completely forgotten about the long list of bugs.

Many of us love this new client, and it has great potential! Much more than KR ever did have.

A road map hi lighting your general priorities would be nice. Not a publish schedule, but just a relative top ten of each "Emergency" "High" "Low" "Feature request", etc.

I would just point out that at 2 minutes per frame/tile ... by my back-of-the-envelope calculation of the amount of art in UO, you've just volunteered for 8 months of labor with no weekends, vacations, staff meetings or edits/fixes/redos. And remember, you will be judged not on your best or even your average, but on the work of one day that most stands out to the eyes of critics from an audience that can't agree on which direction is up.
