The Guardian, who is he? More importantly, HOW real is he?

You think this is just a game? You think you are safe behind your computer from the greatest evil that the world of Ultima is or was beset by? It seems you shouldn't take such things for granted.

Florida’s prison system has a page (scroll to the bottom) devoted to the Virtues of the Guardian, that is, the big red-faced bad guy from Ultima, as referenced in Ultima Underworld II. They misspelled “Killorn” as “Killgorn,” and according to the list, they left out Sobriety. It’s not clear that anyone realizes that the Guardian was the villain.

“John Hosie” is aka Houston Dragon. If you can’t read the above page (and some of us on the Lazarus team that have been giggling about it have had trouble, props to Shadow of Light Dragon for noticing it) it’s been archived.

Maybe Ultima fanclubs can qualify as a “faith-based initiative” and receive gummint funds from Gov. Jeb Bush’s big brother.

You may shudder now.

I been trying to tell them that for like a year now, they're all convinced harder than rock I'm delusional.

I casted Armageddon for christ's sake ! I met the guardian, he's still alive and kicking. The shadowlords haven't been destroyed either... it's ridiculous.

Not that I take any of this particularly seriously, but I won't accept people coming back to apologize after the fight is over, oh sorry we didn't know.

I can forgive, but I won't bow to you, as your faith wont be in my hands, you won't be human.

Oh, I'm doing a little bit more than shuddering.

I wonder if this started as a joke and it just never got "caught" by anyone.

I suppose now they will remove that, and replace it with Darth Vader, or some other fictional "Satan" figure.

Professor Moriarty.....Sauron.....Darth Vader...Go old-school Star Trek and use Kahless.....The list of potential models for Florida Correctional Officers is endless. In fact, why not cut out the middle man and do it on the basis of Anton Lavey's writings?

I don't get it.
The Virtues used by The Guardian, who is the "Satan" or "Devil" figure of the Ultima Universe, are being held up by the Florida Department of Corrections as the "virtues" of Correctional Officers in Florida.

If you're in prison in Florida, the dude who keeps you from escaping and is supposed to keep your fellow prisoners from buggering you is being asked to follow the virtues of the villain of an old computer game.

Not even the hero, but the villain.

So it'd be like if they were being taught to be like, say, Darth Vader.

Where this comes from is the Ultima game (7) where the Guardian tried to take over Sosaria. The tactic was to organize the masses, led by a few wealthy and nolbes types (Batlin and the Fellowship) with what appears to be a reasonable rule or moral principles, but in actuality was a system of control which you can see once you realize this. (Much like Blackthorn's twisting of the Virtues while influenced by the Shadowlords.) In the end, once the masses found out what it was all about (the takeover of Britannia by subversion, by the Gaurdian), they stopped following the Fellowship and their "Virtues".

Here's the Guardian's virtues.

Sobriety: Sobriety is the state all followers of the Guardian should maintain. It is one free of any chemical or magical substances that may impede the Inner Voice from being heard.
Punctuality: Punctuality is a habit to be formed by all those who call the Guardian their Master. It is the commitment to being prepared on a moment's notice to carry out the Guardian's orders.
Obedience: Obedience is something required of all the Guardian's servants. It is complete submission to any and all the Guardian's demands and wants.
Vigilance: Vigilance is the constant state of mind any servant of the Guardian should maintain. It is the backbone of the Guardian's defenses, to watch for foreign and domestic foes.
Conformity: Conformity is complete acceptance of all the Guardian's beliefs and values. It is the lack of desire to succeed or surpass any person's accomplishments or ideas.
Efficiency: Efficiency is the prevention of any waste. It applies to every function of life, from food, energy, money, even lives.
Silence: Silence is the need for all the Guardian's servants to not speak against the order. It is essential for the stability and safety of our world.
Diligence: Diligence is the ability to seek out a goal and continue toward it. It is especially important to the armies of the Guardian to ensure victory.

What do you have in mind ?

I honestly don't care if I'm never recognized for talking about this since OSI sold off to EA.

You want to dig deeper than that ? It goes much deeper, and I'm royalty free.

rofl...

Humor this as much as you want, the guardian still followed British and Nystul to earth.

We are extreemly lucky to have such an open admittance of what goes on behind the scenes here, especially meta-physically.

This is serious people, they do not fail, the guardian is much older than UO, as you can see.

It's like the people of the US not realising that the statue of liberty is a statue of Semiramis, or ISHTAR of old babylon. It's just been "lightened" in symbolism.

The torch is Osiris... the owls have been taken out of course. It's just that UO had an uncanny way of underlining and mirroring the earth plane, which is what its all about.

More than a game, yes, but not directly anymore. I still hold the eternal flame, the ebon skull, and the black matter. All my prophecies have come true, and I don't think it's mystical. Alas noone wants to hear.
