enhanced client problems and a few KR solutions for it

if you have any gripes about the SA enhanced client feel free to list them and please comment on my solutions

0.) i am saddened they have killed the kingdom reborn client they need to give us the option to use kingdom reborn the kingdom reborn client in SA

1.) a completely functional kingdom reborn user interface. this includes the map and all radar functions

2.) friends system needs a reworking so it is actually usable

3.) party system needs a reworking. for example if you are in a party with a friend and like to keep it that way when you both disconnect you are still in the party when you rejoin

3.) guild options!
- this includes special guild map options that are currently in UOAM
- a centralized guild bank in the guild house
- a new a raid/hunting group system complete with a loot system

4.) Now how can they add sa content to KR well they should create a dual client that will use the kingdom reborn assets and offer the new content in a "instance area" that would load with the enhanced client this would be the easy way to add SA to kingdom reborn cause as it stands this is completely unacceptable http://vboards.stratics.com/showpost.php?p=1319116&postcount=49

5.) Bring back RICHARD GARRIOTT to work on UO THEN kill the 2d client. it is what has held back the Ultima mmorpg franchise. the hangers have killed every attempt to move away from the 2d client, they have to realize that this is 2009 and ultima needs to be able to compete with the current heavyweights in the mmorpg world. maintaining the status quo means UO will not see its 20 year anniversary this is a reality

That would be a waste of resources. EA cannot afford to support three clients for UO (even two clients is a bit much), so KR needs to go away at some point. The Enhanced Client really isn't that far away from being ready, and is definitely usable already. It would probably take a week or two to get KR updated to support the new client and tested... I'd rather the client developers spend that time on the Enhanced Client.

And "only let the KR client work in old areas" isn't an option that actually helps anything. All the content except for the quests can leave the new areas (if not naturally, EMs could). The only thing you'd remove from the work needed to update the KR client would be adding the new maps and quest localization (and it would probably be easier to just add that in, instead of spending the time to split it from the other data).

It sounds to me like you want to play another game.. You should go play wow, in all honestly. . . We play uo because we like it. Force-feed this 'enhanced client' and we will just find another game to play..

I spent several hours exploring the 'enhanced' client.. Frankly, theres some options I wish we had in 2d, but generally speaking, it was basically unplayable for me.
I spent a long time trying to set up my macros.. I have some major issues with this. It does NOT do everything that uoassist does, and frankly, there is no way to pvp without these functions..
I did TRY to pvp, but because my computer can barely run it, I was clearly in no position to be fighting. I ran back home. . I dueled a friend, and lost badly, because I couldn't even see what he was doing it system-lagged so bad.
Frankly, there are VERY few perks, and it is my prediction that this client will flop just as all the other 'enhanced' clients.. Graphically, btw, I thought it was horrible, and looked NO different than the first 3d client before KR.

I WAS, however, able to get it basically to the exact same macros/keys i use in 2d, so pvping was basically the same as 2d, plus a TON of lag, glitches, lockups, and an overall 'slow' feeling.. This combined with the lack of CRUCIAL macros, and this client is a done deal for me..

All in all, epic, epic failure. Here is the journal i kept:

1. paperdoll is very ugly. I look fat, and just generally silly.. confusing paperdoll.. do not like.
2. Horse looks very silly. Stumpy legs.
3. running at 300k Kb. Whoever said it is on a par
with 2d is out of their mind. 14k vs 300k, buddy.. do the math...
4. New backpack system is stupid. WAY too many items
to scroll through to find my armor. (we pvp-ers carry
lots of stuff) also, they actually made it HARDER to see items.. HOW did they DO this??
5. The woods kinda look cool.... little too 'rich' tho..
6. does not work with nostromo pad.
7. window resize is awesome
8. zoom in/out is awesome
9. looks like i am wearing bell-bottoms when i am sitting on the horse..
10. why is horse running animation so slow.. runs like winnie the poo's sad donkey..
11. nearest friendly and nearest enemy is a great feature. Though nearest mobile isn't new..
12. enter-to-talk = epic win on several levels.. we can't have this in 2d because why again??
13. bell-bottom look is so bad. bad call. epic fail.
14. so, you actually DO NOT get stuck on things.. Solid win.
15. okay, does work with nostromo.
16. 'hotbar' is no good... . far as i can tell.. I miss my millions of icons..
17. can't make combinations of ctrl + mouse3..
18. no way to set a macro to get in llama form.. kindof a big deal..
19. No trapped box macros..
20. no re-mount macro..
21. About to make my computer crash it lags so bad..

0. Since EC is simply KR retooled, we need the option to use KR artwork (in the same way KR had the option to use Legacy artwork.

1. The EC interface IS the KR interface for the most part, although they DID screw things up by downgrading several areas of the UI such as crafting menus and the map system.

2 & 3 (and 3.). These seem like general options to look into which were NOT completed as part of the KR client, so not sure how these apply.

4. Unneeded, see answe to 0.

5. Neither is going to happen. 2d can stay around (yes, I've changed stance on this) if only to allow people access to the game via Netbook. BUT, they should have NEVER compromised so heavily on the EC if they were going to keep both in production. They should have continued the push forward that KR represented, not the pixelated, distorted mess of a compromise that the EC has become. The 2d client graphics were ill suited to a zoom feature when 3d was released and they're STILL ill suited to a zoom feature with even larger resolution settings in EC.

EC does have some advances, but it still has MANY backpedals it took to try and appease people who were never going to accept it in the first place and in the end it has really satisfied LESS people than KR did (for all of its faults).

You can use the legacy container if you don't like scrolling. The thing about Grid View however is that items remember where they are in the slots. So you can dump your weapons and armor sets at the bottom of the pack and leave the top portion open for new loot, etc. I find this to be a very useful feature with the grid view.

You can make millions of hotbars and resize them however you wish. Right-click on any hotbar slot to create a new hotbar.

The old 3d client was 3d in the sense that the avatar, mobs, etc were made with polygons and skins, like most modern 3d games these days. Both the KR and EC clients are no more 3d than the classic client. They made high polygon count creatures and then took a screenshot of them to create the animations.

Im over this EC thing, and now I am going to do an investigation on this UO cartographer thing.. (UOAM but supported, and updated)

To remount if its an ethie just drop the ethie in a hotbar slot and assign hotkey, if its a pet create a macro with the following 3 actions 1 under communication use whuisper/yell/say all follow me , 2 target nearest follower, 3 use targeted object and voila instant remount

I would say KR is dead, there would be no option for KR artwork in the future. But this is not the problem for me at the moment, more important is the bad performance and the low resolution renders of the Enhanced client, it is ugly ugly ugly!

Why are they making a new client, if they dont want to polish the graphics, i wished they never released KR, then we had two clients 2d and Third Dawn, with nearly the same animation systems.

You don't even need to make a macro - just drop the crate in a hotbar and assign a hotkey.

This is the problem with the EC: it's way easier than 2D, but that doesn't help as long as people think in terms of 2D and try to recreate 2D in the EC.

They need to get rid of the 'compete with the big-dogs of MMO. i.e. wow' mission statement, and go to a 'lets make uo the best uo we possibly can' kind of mission statement..

think about it.. What if HONDA decided that they wanted to 'compete with the big-dogs' and started making comparable cars to farari's?? If the prices were relatively close, I guarantee, most people will just go full-bore and buy the damn farari..

In other words, if given a choice between wow, and the game that is desperately trying to be more like wow, most are just going to go full-bore, and get a wow acct.. Why settle??

In other words, the people that play and love, and kept up with uo, are simalar to the people who don't want a farari.. Just a good, reliable, car..

In other words, stop trying to make uo wow.. A honda will never be a farari, nor would they ever try to be..

Do you fail to realize that we don't WANT new graphics? That there is nothing WRONG with the UI in 2d? That we love UO for being uo, not something else akin to wow?

Heres my advice for all you players who want the fancy UI, and 'awesome' dynamic graphics: Don't buy a honda.. Go full-bore for the farari. i.e. get off of my game that you hate so much you feel the need to butcher it, and go play wow.

Nope, you just drop another crate in your pack. The hotbar sees it as "item type" not a specific item... simple. Honest.

This entire post is based on a flawed outlook upon not only its own metaphor but also on its assumption of what other people want. I love the cc and I love the ec (although it could and hopefully will get better) you use the comparing of 2 different makes of cars as your metaphor and then assign people to one or the other assuming that they are only after the graphical aspects of the game.

Personally I would not buy a car simply for its looks, if i did i would probably play wow myself. If I could afford a ferrari I would buy one, as long as its performance was better than the honda alternative (simply staying within the metaphorical conditions here I hate hondas ). If the honda outperformed the ferrari then I would go with the honda even if it was less attractive than the ferrari. If however the honda could be made more attractive then i would be very happy as both function and form would be good.

Why do you feel the need to tell people to go play wow simply because they hope for a more updated client? These people would allready be elsewhere it they didn't love the depth and versatility that uo offers over these other mmorpgs. Noone is forcing you to stop using the cc so again why do you feel the need to tell people to stop ruining YOUR game?

many of the things you posted here in complaint against the ec have been shown to be fully possible, granted some and maybe currently many areas can be improved and hopefully they will be but rather than ranting about how people are riining YOUR game maybe we should all focus on how to improve OUR game?

BTW i'm on a minimal wage job and its still not too hard to save up for a comp that is perfectly capable of running the ec smoothly! no rich kids needed so don't give up hope hehe

Thats pretty much all i was saying.. Leave my CC alone, and I'll leave your EC alone.. You want fancy graphics and a fancy UI? Awesome.. Hats off.. Personally, I wouldn't settle for the suped up honda, id go strait for the farari.. i.e. wow. . . I just wish there wasn't this 'throw-away' attitude in regard to CC.. I mean, after all, with the 1k$ me and ALL my friends have given over the past ten years, you'd think we could get some attention too...
But alas, they're way too busy trying to 'compete'. .

Also, I make over 50k a year, own my home, and own 4 cars. . Im married and have two dogs, and a landscaping company & the respnsibility of keeping work in front of my employee (singular). Sorry if in the process, a new nerd-machine isn't at the top of my list.. I just bought this computer, in fact. its an older p4, at 3.2ghz, with 4gigs of ram, 128mb vid-card. . . I am NOT going to buy anything better than this just to play a client I am frankly disgusted with..

hey people,

I have been a long long time paying for UO without playing. Now today I upgraded my account to SA and downloaded and installed both clients, classic and enhanced. In the enhanced client something is wrong with my display-settings since part of the text is unreadable. For example the login-screen. It says Account Name (where I fill in the account name) but above the line where I fill in the password I just see XXXX. Also just 2 of the 5 top-buttons have text.....

I attached a screenshot...

Maybe needless to say, but once logged into the game, most of the text appears as XXXX....
Do any of you have the same problem, or, what's even more important, a solution?

I have a Geforce 9800 GTX GPU and I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate.

This seems to affect all systems with non-english locale. You have to manually revert the language setting to english.

Please bug report so it gets fixed...

THANX MAN!!! I disliked the german settings anyway, because the translations suck and on top of that only parts are translated. And since I'm a dutchman I don't need german settings anyway.
