I'm back to UO after about 7 years. I have a plethora of questions:

1.) Starting stats should max STRENGTH, and leave the rest in DEX and INT, yes?

2.) Can you still PL strength by macroing fishing overnight, DEX by macroing fencing overnight, and INT by macroing item ID overnight?

3.) Is there room for housing now?

1) Depends what you are making. Hit points are no longer totally equal to STR. It is str/2+50.

2) hahahaha no. There is a 10 point a day cap to gains.

3) Yes, god yes. You can place, if you look hard enough, a max lockdown in Tram... if you don't have keen eyes you can at the very least find an 11x11 to a 13x15 with minimum issues.

4.) Used to be you picked Tailoring as a starting stat to make money. Still viable?

hahahaha no.

I'm pretty damn sure I've gained way more than that in half an hour :/
Sorry I believe I'm wrong, I'm thinking Siege (though maybe the cap wasn't 10, but around there).

I haven't created a new character in a long time and suspect since the gold drop on many creatures is pretty high you don't have to start a crafter anymore to just earn the keep of the others. I think making a starting character in lumberjack/fletcher and tailor to create fancy shirts is over.

I think the crafting in uo is really cool and after playing the open beta on stygian with imbuing I am optimistic that crafters will return to uo. I beta tested the ML though before open beta and the runics were tempered down greatly.

My suspician is there will be a reasonable cost improvement to the mining gems since imbuing requires those. It may be reasonable to start a miner to get gems that you can spam for sale at the bank.

Another gem that will be in short supply is white pearl , which are obtained from fishing. That gem is used in some good imbuing recipes and the rarety of it will keep the fisherman viable. I don't recall the minimum skill to get this gem and you may want to research some of the ML gems to see what professional crafters you have interest.

Well where the hell are the leveling guides?
Being away from such a long time I recommend not worrying about leveling guides or even leveling for that matter. The only way you would stay is if you have a good experience meeting people in game and that requires you get out to interact.

My recommendation is not to be a solo player leveling with no one around you. If you go out fishing go to a bank and ask if anyone wants to go fishing. Remember the old days when people would play a character like a fisherman would talk like one or a pirate would act like one and talk like one.

I never see any real characters played anymore. Go back to what made UO great and generate your character before creating the character.

Hi Xynder and welcome back. In my training of new characters I've found that you can gain stats quickly during low level gains in skills, but even quicker when you have GMed a skill and make use of it. So for convenience sake, I go for a higher strength. What you might want to do for stat gain is reach your 700 skill cap, then see saw some easier to train skills like arms lore and music at low levels. See how the gains come then.

There is plenty of room for housing and more no the way with the new expansion.

Finally, I've found the easiest way to make money as a returning player is to do escort quests in New Haven.
