70s RoT stealing, what's the best way to get gains that involves the maximum potential for TV watching?

I just tried stealing 7 stones of gold from a backpack on the floor, repeatedly.

No gains.

Does there have to be a witness around, for the chance of being caught?

I don't do 'watch tv' I only go as far as 'read boards on the other monitor while watching uoa run' but I did it like this:
Record a uoa macro stealing x number items from a bag on a packhorse (where x is the number you're prepared to record, bearing in mind that you'll have to reset all the 'item' lines when you move up to the next level and need to steal something heavier - I only did 10). Set a delay between the steals. I set mine at 10000, but I have a high ping to Siege.
When the macro finishes remove the bag from the pack horse and use uoa organiser agent to put all the stolen items back in it for the next run.

Yes, you need to be somewhere you can be seen, preferably where there are no guards, which with guards off in all faction towns gives you plenty of choice.

Stealing in town helps gains alot, I think witnesses around does to.

If the backpack's just sitting there on the floor you're not really stealing, it's just a discarded bag with something in it. Put it on a pack animal and steal from it there. If you do this in a guarded town, for example.. Luna, Jhelom or Cove, tell the packy to guard you first or you'll get whacked.

You'd be better off just having the packy in your house and training it there using Molly's macro if you're watching telly.

you can gain from a bag on the floor in town now Shalimar, I trained it that way. On other shards you can find people in buccs regularly training that way. I found a slightly more remote spot to train it on Siege. :D

If you don't want to use scripts, the best method I have found is to use Ninjitsu's Shadow Image. Just cast one when your ROT timer goes off, put a useless item of correct weight in its pack, and steal, then death Strike the image for Ninjitsu gains if needed.

Be sure to use a useless item, because if you fail to steal it before the image expires, the item is gone with it.

This is the best method for on the go thieves, who dont want pack horses following them around. ;)

Bleedin' 'ell, when did that happen? I've been getting new guys packies and bottles to lug around or telling them to steal from the Skara archers when no-one's looking *grins*

@ Wulf, sorry M'lud, I'd never have thunk you could have gained stealing from a bag on the floor in a town.

Seconded. But like you said, if you are just lazing around buy a packy, "guild" it, find a remote spot in town, and steal... I prefer east Brit and trinsic personally, only people going through there are... well, I never see people there heh.

I keep hearing that the guards are turned off in faction towns, does this mean I can walk up to a random blue at moonglow bank and stick a dose of deadly poison in his veins without being guard whacked?

Why don't you walk up to moonglow bank and see if you get the guard zone message?

Aye. It is funny watching them run in terror while yelling for the guards.

At that point I toy with them a bit, though I am mounted and they on foot, I let them think they might escape... loot loot loot.

Or I can walk to moonglow bank and stuff my knife up the crack of someone's *** and see if the guards come. :)
