Hello fellow Tamers of Sosaria,

Often whenever I see another Tamer with a pet Dragon it is instinctive for me to check out it's stats and compare it with mine.

Usually after the comparison I see the disparity between the two Pets significant in the which one could be considered a Melee Dragon and the other could be characterized as a Mage Dragon.

Now all things being equal considering they are to pit themselves against each other which one would come out the winner?

Well I am of the opinion the melee dragon should prevail but then again I am not sure info anyone? TIA.

What do you mean by "mage dragon?" You mean high magery? If so, melee all the way. High mage means nothing to me. If by "mage dragon" you mean "high mana pool," the fight might possibly be a bit closer, if the disparity between the dragons' wrestling and resist is slight.

Typically, your high wrestle, high resists dragons are gonna be your best dragons. However, when two tamed greaters fight (no healing or vet allowed), mana determines how many times they can heal/cure, which can tip the scales.

people who require high magery on the dragons are doing it wrong. it's the least important skill to have past gm.

What he said. There are two schools of thought: one side says high magery seems to make greaters cast faster/more often, whereas the other said says high mage is useless as greaters don't use eight circle spells. I fall into the latter category.

dragons dont use 8th lvl spells so high magery (over gm) is so un-important, but i must admit 120 looks nice

Here is my GD stats, fully trained.
Wrestling---125. (max 130.5)
Tactics-----124.5 (max 126)
Resist Spell-119.7 (max 126)
Magery-----102.9 (max 126)
Phy resist 81 (max 85)

I do a lot of fighting with him and he does a lot of Physical damage and takes little damage. When I first started training him at Swoop I healed him alot, about 400 - 500 aids per 40K gold farmed. Now I use about 150 aids for 40K gold. Swoop can do a lot of damage and his Phy resist is dropped to 69 from something Swoop does. Can't figure that one out, only happens at Swoop.

In theory when a GD with high magery, heals itself (they actually do) then
They should heal more, if their magery works as the players do.

In my book, there aient such a thing as melee, and mage dragons heh
They resort under crap or none-crap grater dragons, i might be wrong thou hehe

And i don't really spend that much time training my GD's coz an out of the box so to speak GD, can take a paragon balron, if you use the right template (disco-tamer)

the only benefit to high magery is more hp's on a GH. nice, sure, but not a deal-breaker

Hirys or however you spell it, does the same thing, and they can shread your'e GD to pieces if you are not carefull, try it...heh

The reason why you use less bandages can be because your'e GD's wrestling skill has become better ?

When i think of it, it could be an issue regarding pvp, since poison spell scales with magery..not sure if GD's magery = player magery thou. I'm almost sure that the GD's firebreath scales with its HP, and not its magery..but again its a guess

It's been my personal experience with the 4 or 5 greaters I've had is that:
The GDs w/ higher magery "seemed" to heal themselves more the higher magery it had and the faster it cast arch cure on themselves when they were poisoned.
I've been lucky enough to have about 3 GDs that were all 120+ in wresting, tactics and magery and have at least 80+ in physical and fire resists.
Took a lot of farming (got the scales and hides to prove it) to finally end up with the one I have now.
