Game play window in Classic client?

Hi there,

I forgot to check if we can have bigger game play window in Classic client that will be released with SA.

Im about to buy new 22-24" screen but first I need to know if I will end up with incredible tiny game play window or not...

I have already promised my God daughter (looks strange in englist but is a normal thing in Scandinavia), that she will get my old one when I buy a new one.

Unfortunately not... You'll be stuck with the small game window on a sea of black. The only way to get a larger game play window is to use the "enhanced" client.

did you use the enhanced one?

Did avatars still look like beardie teenage girls?

Or I will buy and old 20" screen with less pixels.

There is no new classic client.

The only difference between the 2D client download for open beta and the 2D client we're already using is the Stygian Abyss content. The client itself is exactly the same. When the expansion is released our normal client will be patched up with that content, plus any changes made since open beta closed.

well, part of the content is the changed crafting menus, classic client gets those as well as enhanced client.
2 ticks, I'll get you a current screen print of my enhanced client desktop. It has a couple of player created mods on though. ewwe, yeuch! The image has lost a *lot* of clarity in saving it as a .jpg, my screen is *not* that blurry.

you can always lower your resolution for playing UO. You can even automate that with certain tools that come with your graphiccard.

Thats what I do anyway.

Maybe I should try to adapt to enhanced client.


Are there any big issues still?
Meaning,is it possible to switch and play without learning everything from scratch and be so frustrated that you change withing 2h of testing?

Last time I tried was about 2 years ago,I couldnt hold out more than 15 min.

I have tried to find a new screen that is not widescreen,that was not easy I say.I still havent found any affordable in the brands Im interested in.

Godiva:Yes I could,if I find a 4/3 screen.Widescreen would make it even worse.

I run a 19" wide screen in 2D & have no issues at all. Son uses a 22" or 24 (I can't remember) looks fine. (check out 2D on 19" Wide screen)

The devs have already said it is very highly unlikely for any significant changes to the 2d client.

That really looks good.

I was worried that if I buy a new 20" widescreen 1600x1000 something,my game window will be in a tiny window in the top left corner.

And if I decrease to something less than 1600x1000 it will be very blurry.

it will be kinda small if you go to that resolution. Mine is pretty small on my old 1280x1024 monitor :/

If you tried 2 years ago, that's the KR client. I gave up on that, it wouldn't do the things I wanted to do. The enhanced client does all that and more.

As for learning how to use it. I can. You're not going to admit to being less able to adapt than a little old English granny are you?

Visit the enhanced client forum, there are lots of macro suggestions and how to hints there.
Some of the things I can do:
mount and dismount using a hot key.
bandage multiple pets unfailingly getting the right one while having a bandage count and timer.
Change all or part of my armour at the push of a button, and all in one 'whump' not one item at a time and wait till it's finished. Need to just change jewels and hat? make a macro to just do that, no need to undress completely.
Read the lists of macros people have made, you'll be amazed.

Wow !

Petra thanks for sharing that screenschot. It gives this (not so little) old American Papa (lol) reason to try the enhanced client again. That shot I can live with, my main problem now is I hate the idea of learning a whole new game. LoL I know that's a little drammatic, but that's what it feels like to learn the new client.

Still, the shot you posted looks very nice and is so much better than anything I experienced in the enhanced client. KR was even worse, I was in Beta for KR and hated it the whole time, this however looks nice

I have my resolution switched automatically to 1280x768 when UO is started with my widescreen. Native resolution is 1680x1050.

It works fine and certainly does not look worse than on an old monitor from 1998

It's not that hard, honestly. I started by re-creating my 2D macros in the new client, then moved on to reading what other people had created and adapted stuff. I'm running a couple of player mods that I think make it look better.
erm, 'little' is relative I guess. I'm 5'4", but my hubby and both sons are 6'2", so they kinda tower over me, and my very cheeky youngest claims I'm a 'self-propelled lawn ornament'.

I don't know what program you use to save the screenshots in, but I can tell you that the program I use (Paint Shop Pro) will also make blurry jpegs unless I first save it in the proprietary format of the program (*.psp in my case). If I save it first as a *.psp file then "Save As" to change it to *.jpg I get much clearer images. You might try that with your program and see if it works similarly.

Thanks for the advice, as for Little my wife finally admits that she's not really 5', she's only 4'11" LOL. I on the other hand am 6'1". Her best friend calls us Mutt and Jeff, not sure if you had them in England, very old Cartoon Characters.

My brother is visiting this weekend from Phoenix, but after he leaves I'll be working on the new client. Time to stop putting it off I guess

Yes your gameplay window will be tiny, I would recommend if you get a good 22+ in monitor to make the jump to one of the newer clients (KR or SA) to take advantage of the bigger gameplay window as well as MANY of the UI enhancements that the newer clients offer that the 2d client simply CANNOT do by itself.

The KR gameplay window is still limited, but you can stretch the SA window as large as the entire screen and beyond (I've stretched the gameplay window itself across three monitors)... yeah it lags when you go across multiple monitors, but a single one works great.
