Bah...After reading all these posts, I'll think I'll go get that book and try to stay quit for good this time :p I've been thinking about it for a few months, but haven't really gotten the willpower to do so yet. :wall: Maybe this time I'll stay quit.. :p

Grumm...
If I had known that my mother was going to die when she did, I would have loved to have had a chance to tell her I'm sorry if I had caused you grief, thank you, and I love you. I wouldn't deny your family that, and I'll even ask you: please do so, go and see them.

Good luck in your travels, Grumm and have a wonderful time in Las Vegas and abroad. Maybe let those of us who haven't been out of the country yet know what else is out there, eh? :p
I'll cya around the other side, sometime. You seem like a wonderful person and I would love the chance to meet you there since I haven't met you in real life, here(until just now) or in UO.

You will be missed dearly, whether all of us knew you or not.

Safe Journeys.

Grumm, Dear Grumm ..

Hi. I am bouncing your post back onto front page and hope others will help keep it up there too. It doesn't belong in the archives. Who knows which person reading this today, this weekend, will be helped, will decide not start, will decide to quit, will decide to buy that book for someone else who needs help?

This is one post that should be on front pages -across the entire internet, in all languages. Imagine the GOOD it would do - the encouragement and help it can give to so many!

It would be wonderful, if you get a chance, to add your travels to this post when ever possible, to keep us updated, and to help bounce the thread back onto the front page for others to see for the first time ... for a long time! :) We'll be thinking of you and waiting to hear from you! You've touched everyone!

I agree! What a wonderful idea. If this post saves one life from suffering the death of lung cancer or emphysema it's worth it. Trust me from someone who works in the medical field its well worth it to save a life. Grumm I wish you all the best. May your final moments be filled with love, laughter, joy and wonder.

Your thread I think has opened many eyes and certainly touched several hearts.

I quit smoking the day I gave up marriage. Was August 17th, 1993. Haven't taken up either of those bad habbits since. *grins*

On occasion I think about marriage now and again... but for now I'm too old and too set in my ways.

I've never looked back on the smoking. I've enjoyed being able to walk up and down the stairs without panting.

Grumm, I can only say, from experience, that I wish this journey be comfortable and easy for you. WE have also just closed our 11 yr old accounts, but because of the game.
Also the ACS has wonderful chat for for peeps like us. It is not a sad place and lacks the chatroom bs because of our situation. It is also a great place for caregivers and those close to you right now. They need this too.

There is no courage involved here, only the decision to open your eyes and live each day.

May this be as easy as possible for you.
My thoughts are with you

As others suggested before, please get a notebook and take us with you. Maybe you can use this thread as some kind of diary or read-along-roadbook or something. Jade's idea is brilliant so I will add a post every now and then.
I told your story to a close relative and she spontaneously decided to write you a few lines.

Hey buddy ;)

I'm fourteen years old and I'm a cancer sufferer just like you. Since I know that comments like "Oh! I'm so sorry for you!!!! So... are you going to die or what??" can be pretty superfluous and make you feel like you're the most pitiful person on earth, I have just one thing to say: do what you always wanted to do. But even more important: be who you always wanted to be. If you're religious or not, just... leave the past behind and be proud of yourself. You just have to think positive about it. As long as you're smiling, you will make everyone around you smile. I would like to quote one of my personal heroes, Nick Jonas, who's a diabetic: "At the beginning I was asking myself *Why me?* but then I just started asking *Why NOT me?!*". Use that stupid disease as an opportunity to make people say "wow".

Thank you, Jade. I told her. She smiled and sends you her love. :)

I didn't edit her post in any way because she knows exactly what words to use. Great song she choosed, too. The lyrics hit the nail.

I don't want to raise any false hope but her case is an example that it's worth to hold on. She got her final diagnosis very late because (as it later transpired) she suffers from an extreme rare form of cancer which, in addition to that, is completely unusual for her age. Asked about the survial odds, all the doctor's answers were a shake of the head. Subsequently, she went though endless diagnostic routines, surgeries and radium irradiations which altogether can't be considered as the best time of her life. But her family never gave up trying another therapy, consulting another doctor and yet another clinic. Very expensive, but a foundation stepped in and covered a big deal of the costs.

It all began when she was six years old, now she's fourteen. She's still ill but she lives and she cherishes every single moment of her life. And though it was de facto medical expertise which helped her to survive till now, in my opinion it was her inner strength and her willingness to see the good in the challenges we are given.

Honestly...if you read this book, and smoke the whole time you read it, listen carefully to the Easy to understand message, and follow the instructions (Nothing Hard at All...Just an Open Mind) you will stop Easily, and never crave them again.

http://www.amazon.com/Easy-Way-Stop-Smoking-Non-Smokers/dp/1402718616

It truly is easy...I know scores of people personally that I have watched stop smoking. Not a single one, including myself, has ever started again.

I mean...really...why would we?

And if I can do it...ANY of you can...any of you.

Try it folks...you have nothing to lose...the book is Guaranteed, and MILLIONS of people have stopped using it.

The title of this post will come into fruition later in this posting.

I am saying a final goodbye to this game and this website. Not because I don't like the game or this site, but for health reasons.

I am losing ground in my fight with cancer. Sadly, it was 100% avoidable. Soon I will be one of the 1200 people that die everyday from smoking. They say I should have about six more months of normal activity before I can no longer get out of bed.

Instead of just waiting for it to happen, I have decided to see the world and do things I have always wanted to do. You can't take money with you, so I am going to be living the high life while I can. I will leave behind a mother, sister and girlfriend. I can't forget my beloved dog Scooch, aka "Buddy".

I didn't entirely come here to depress everyone though. I also came here to tell everyone that on the 22nd of this month, all my accounts will officaly be at the end of the subscription cycle. On the 2nd of this month, I forefitted all remaining game time. Why tell you this? Well, there will be three houses falling on the GL shard in Malas.

The houses are stuffed will all sorts of things. Many rares, multiple sets of dye tubs, enough resources to GM any craft skill, BODs, armor, and so much more. The list goes on, but I digress. Hopefully you IDOCers out there can determine when they will fall based of the info I gave.

Before I go, I just wanted to say, "It's just a game". After the day is done, it's just a game. No matter what you have acheived or lost, it's just a game. When your family wants to do something, remember it's just a game. It's just a game.

Tomorrow I will be logging off of Stratics for the last time. If there are any questions about the houses, please ask before tomorrow evening. After that, I will be going to live life to the fullest and never look back.

Smoking is bad m'kay!
I try to keep God out of UO, but sometimes I can't.

We had 27 people in one church service that had many many years ago been given a death sentence by their doctors for cancer. They said my uncle would be dead last February. He is not.

Never give up. I so agree with seeing the world, and enjoying your life. They told my wife she would never have a child in her youth. She has 4 perfect children. They just told me there was almost no way my wife and I would have a perfect child. They told me I wouldn't walk by the time I was 30 from car accidents, I am 48 and in perfect health. They told us last year we wouldn't be able to have a healthy child at our age. He was born a week ago in perfect health.

Trust in God, never men. Doctors are wrong so often, they should have disclaimers.

We will pray for you. Be healed in the name of Jesus.

Wish I had been given this book before I started smoking. ( I quit 11 years ago but still crave a cigarette. It's NOT easy! But hey.. Grumm. Again, another speaks my thoughts better than I ever could. ...
Music video:Tim McGraw - Live Like You Were Dying
Kelmo, I would like to thank you for posting this song.

It really became one of my favorite tunes. I've wikipedia'd the singer (which I know by now is not only hugely successful but also a very charitable person) and read about the background story of this song. The lyrics are just perfect for this thread, and I think the line '... And I became a friend, a friend would like to have...' is exactly what we would like to offer Grumm, while -just like you said- we is "The collective we, that is. The community that is Stratics. The community that is UO. The community that reaches across vast spaces to come together and help one another."

"It's just a game", yes, but it's a multiplayer game. You're one of us, Grumm.
Best wishes.

Thanks for the bump... whats the message ?

That if we're in danger we should leave our loved ones and use all our money in a selfish fashion ?

Or did I completely miss the point ?

If I know I die you can be sure I'll give my hair to a child with cancer who lost his or hers, I'll give all my non essential organs in shape to people in need, every little penny to the people who made a difference in my life and I know I can make a little difference back.

I'll sort all my posessions carefully and give each one to the person I love whom I know will make best use of it.

I certainly wont just leave it all to chance, she has enough on her shoulders already !

Everything good to Grumm. I don't know what to write... My friend got hit by a train last summer, died instantly. I don't know which way is better to go... He didn't feel any pain, it was so fast. But he didn't get to say goodbyes to anyone either, and neither did we get a chance to say goodbye to him. I quess I just have to copy others here. I'm not very religious guy, but I find the idea of higher power sometimes comforting:

Godspeed!

Jade...you took the first step, by getting that book(s). Now, just smoke like always, and if you have to, just read one solitary chapter a day. Some are only 2 pages long. None are twenty or so, from what I recall. But make sure one chapter a day gets read, and you are almost there!

The main thing is to read it, and listen to what Mr. Carr tells you. I know it sounds simplistic, but it is just that friggin easy...it really is!!

I cannot tell you, in words, how easy, and wonderful it will be for you...but once you actually read the book (which is very easy, as well), you will finally stop, and never crave another.

Great first step, Jade!! Please let us know how you progress!!

And finally...don't bemoan the time you have spent smoking...think about how amazingly awesome it is going to be to be finally Free!!! Because you soon will be once you get that book read!!!

:danceb::thumbsup::danceb:

By the way...I gained 40 pounds after a car accident, and then I quit smoking. I lost 40 pounds through diet and exercise between Dec 08 and June 09...all while I didn't smoke...you will understand about substituing, etc., once you read the book...amazing stuff!!

I was fortunate to quit smoking years ago. For those who can't seem to kick the habit never allow yourselves to be influenced by the following:

First comes the cowboys..

Then came the horses..

Then came the pretty girls..

Looking ever sooo cool..

Finally the reality of it all when all is but too late!

Love life quit smoking NOW!! Just a friendly advise. Your health it isn't just a game.

It's so hard to put my words down but I feel compelled to try. I can't seem to stop the tears as I type this because this thread touched me very deeply.

I'm also a smoker who has tried quitting so many times that I was almost ready to give up on myself. I cut it back to 1/2 pack per day 5 yrs. ago but giving up that last 10 cigs has been difficult. Anyone who knows me on Baja knows that I love life and to continue puffing on these coffin nails seems so hypocritical but the nicodemons are strong. God has always seemed to show me something when I'm ready to see it and that's when I came upon this thread. I read Surgeries' post and I'm going to give this book a try. I will also post if it helps me because I'd love to see others freed from this habit.

I pray that Grumm is out there fulfilling his "bucket list" and enjoying the time he's been given. Whether this is 6 mos. or 20 yrs., I wonder if he knows how his story has touched many of us. Thank you for the courage it took to start this thread and to the rest of you who shared in it. God bless you Grumm and my prayers are with you. *deep curtsy*

This gives me heart. I hope those that said they would go get the book, that haven't done so, will do so now.

The book is guaranteed to work. You smoke while you read it. You do NOT cut down to half a pack (VERY dangerous to do....Mr. Carr's worst subject was an attorney that only smoked one cigarette a day...horrid...for like 12 years).

Get the book...read it every day until you finish it. Listen to what he is telling you, and you will be all done very, very soon.

A person must actually read the book though.

I tried the "Osmosis Method" (let the book sit right next to you for 6 months, but don't read it). That din't work so well.

As soon as I finished the book, I was free.

You will be too.

Good for you Cowboy! Stay with it and I'm hoping to join you as soon as the book arrives. I went to the Amazon link right after posting and purchased the book. I wonder if Grumm knows that his post may be instrumental in saving some lives. Because of it, Surgeries posted and hopefully, smoking will be history for a few more of us. Stay strong! God knows, I'll be needing it too. *curtsy*

P.S. Gladius, my husband still smokes BUT we don't smoke in our house and he is so wonderful about supporting me each time I've TRIED to quit. I'm praying that if he sees me succeed, he will also read the book and we can celebrate 50 yrs. of wedded bliss instead of just 29.

UHall is really active these days with the approach of SA Release. So for all those who haven't had the luck to read this thread yet, I am bouncing it again early in the week. And to those who did read and perhaps replied to this post, my hat's off to you, along with the very best wishes to those trying to quit and/or are helping someone else learn to say NO to addictive life-threatening drugs. We're each given the gift of life, and your's is precious: one of a kind!
I've bought the books but it's still work leading horses to water carefully ... so I've sent links to Grumm's Post to friends and family hoping they'll read it thoroughly! Meanwhile: A Toast to Grumm's message to quit before it is too late with hopes it gets through to many people especially to innocent kids playing this game so they are armed with defenses against, and smart enough to never start, taking any harmful addictive substances. It's not COOL as Grumm says, "Smoking is bad m'kay!
"(ps I quit cold turkey over 12 years ago. That was hard. Wish I'd had the support this forum is giving everyone plus the book!)

I hope this comes out right.

Books, are good, that patch, all that stuff whatever.

You will quit when you look at yourself and say enough.

Until you do that quitting is going to be reallllllllly hard.

I quit 11 years ago, by taking my pack and crushing it in my hand and throwing it away. If you can take $5 worth of smokes and throw it in the trash, your ready to quit.

Good luck all who are trying.

Grumm, enjoy what is left.

I hope this comes out right.

Books, are good, that patch, all that stuff whatever.

You will quit when you look at yourself and say enough.

Until you do that quitting is going to be reallllllllly hard.

.
That came out better than 'right" slavoie!

Getting self-motivated to WANT to quit is the hardest part. I never made any false "tries" to quit but .... did exactly as you said:

I vowed that the next time I became so ill with usual winter flu/bronchitis/pneumonia, and couldn't smoke for over two weeks, I would quit - thinking Nicotine should be gone from my system by that time. Then -- simply quit - - never reach for a cigarrette again! HAHA! Not quite that simple! But I did quit! Amazing!

Chewed on a cig-holder, craved cigarrettes for a very long time << (called 'oral satisfaction habit') - - but incredible! I had quit!

Then came the pitfalls of eating junk food/candy/sweet drinks to replace the habit of having a cigarrette butt in the mouth. That ruins teeth-- develops weight gain. Solution: get active, stay active, get out, socialize, exercise, keep busy and distracted with work/hobbies and not with long hours of TV and/or computer sit-downs. :danceb:

:scholar: *Jade steps off her podium* "sorry  about making speeches. - - trying to help. :hug:hugs Grumm!

Ah ok... I hadn't seen it like this.

If you see it as a good post to encourage people to stop smoking, I guess it's ok. But the inherent message just dosen't fit well with my principle. As they say each is entitled to their opinion...

I would have used my money to give people I love good last memories WITH me, I wouldn't have given them money, thats seems like turning my philosophy into a clown, which is untrue.

I'm not destroying Grumms intent, but I'm reformating his view for the new aquarian age, in a way. I mean common, I'd pay a freakin 3 weeks in the best paradise on earth for all my family or something, I'd play gameboy with my kid, I dunno.

ANYTHING but going to die alone without them. I know he was sick and all, but keeping people from seeing you as you die is so strange to me, even if its painful to see. It builds up character for the kids, and enhance emotional release for the wife. It's all positive points I'm brigning up.

Really it shocked me... if they are your loved ones they will accept you as you are and support you all the way. I just hope he died well...
