Some of you might remember me, some may not.

In December of 2008 I was planning on leaving uo, I was facing a little crisis in my life, and needed to offload the account for some extra $$.

Fast forward to January of 2009, I come to log into my email, No go, I go to log into UO, No go, no passwords work everything has been changed.

After HOURS on the phone with Google and EA, I come to find out that my account has been stripped bare.

Upset I quit.

Now Today August 21, 2009 I post about needing to buy some supplies. And I get into contact with him through ICQ.

We work out a deal that I will purchase about an accounts worth of gear and items.

I show up to the trade and what do I see in his hand?

A SPELLBOOK WITH MY NAME STILL INGRAVED ON IT, My Exact Char name, the same.

Okay now it gets stranger, as we are going through the items, I’m looking at the ethereal, Sandals, Hair Dyes, Tokuno Dyes, Plants EVERYTHING. Packaged the way I left the game in January.

Heres the Kicker, There were soul stones tossed in on the deal.

Now everyone could say yeah the spellbook was yours, and maybe some others but chances are not "everything".

The Freaking soul stones that are account bound. WORK. FOR MY ACCOUNT!!!!!!!!

So the guy who I work the deal out with is an awesome person, he explains the transition of how he got the gear, and kind of the path it went, From Atlantic to Lake Superior.

Just Amazing..... What are the odds?

well atleast u got the stuff back in the long run, pretty lame how people hack others accounts to make some quick cash selling it to others and such... i was hacked and lost some awesome rares over a yr ago and i would have paid an arm and a leg to get them back but i could never locate them :( to me, hackers need to be taken into a dark ally late at night and have a few guys teach them a lesson with crowbars.... you know, make them not walk normal ever again :) i just feel that is a fair way of looking at it when someone spends years collecting stuff and it gets taken away in the blink of an eye

Uh, let's see. He hacked your account, stripped it from all the goodies and then sold all YOUR crap back to you? Sounds like a good merchant.

I read this as he sold his account... came back and tried to get it back, contacted who he sold it to and finally got it back today.

I didn't see anything about someone hacking his account.

"Sounds like a good merchant."

Sounds like just another broker/gold seller to me.

Brokers/gold sellers ARE not your friend.

Never give them any personal info such as your credit card number and real name since those 2 things can probably be used to talk EA into thinking that anyone who knows that info is the true owner of the account.

If you MUST deal with brokers/gold sellers or websites that sell UO items use your mom or grandmothers name and address and phone number and a reloadable debit card with NO name attached to make purchases, unless your Mom or Grandmother play UO! then use someone who doesn't play UO's name to make purchases from anyone other than EA. Use a brand new email that you never use for anything else, EVER again (so gold seller can't at a later date send you a trojan). As a further measure of account protection I personally avoid ICQ altogether from all the bad things I have heard about ICQ and account hackings over the years.

I think that even the new Security Question can be changed by calling EA and providing details about the account, though I have never done this, I can guess that EA asks what credit card was last used to pay for this account (Oh the same one I used to buy gold the other day from XYZ.com gaming site, duh!), name, address (same ones I used to buy that gold again Ha!), email address on account, (again I gave that info to the gaming site that sold me 20 mill!).

So for the most part would be uber easy for a broker/gold seller to hack your UO account if you do not deploy devious tactics (jump through hoops and leap over tall buildings in a single bound) to prevent it.

Remember first and foremost a broker/gold seller KNOWS you have a UO account if you buy UO items from them. So they know who to send trojans to to snag UO account names and passwords. And as UO is just a J O B to them to make cash irl, your account is just another $ to them.
