So... seriously. But you have to buy the expansion to get the 2 stable slots.

Now my question is, do I want a pack of raptors or a pack of spiders?

On the other hand, I just released my other pack (no slots), so I can try them both out.

And get a skree.

Here's the log

I get the impression the increase is part of the bought upgrade. I read it the other way at first, but it looks like it's a bought increase. Can't say I'm overwhelmed by the quantity, but I'm holding back some cash to upgrade my puter for work so it's good that I'm not hugely tempted :D

Are there any plans for additional stable slots for players with the new tamables in Stygian Abyss?

*Shrug* 2 slots .... grateful and thankful etc .... but yeah underwhelmed.

One might think that with the word Planning in the phrase that maybe if we beg and grovel enough we may get more before release :)

I'm going with the Wolf Spiders. Raptors are cute, but can get more DI from the spiders by adding another arachnid to that mix. I went out and farmed frost spiders already to find a good one to have for that pack. It should be mostly trained by the time SA is released.

My non-tamers are probably going to be getting the most benefit from the extra stable slots. I like to train up small one slots that anyone can own and stables are full all around.

Agreed my Non Tammers are going to reap the most benefit here.

It would be nice if they saw fit to give us a generic version of the Chicken Coop set at a limit of no less than 5 stabled pets, craftable just like the Chicken Coop and consuming a Lock Down.

I won't lie, I feel like a kid on Christmas who got nothing but clothes.........LoL better then nothing though, at least the devs listened.
No insult to you, but I’m not sure that I consider two slots to be better than nothing. It shows that the stable slot issue was, in fact, considered but the result makes it seem that it was dealt with as a triviality. Almost like a snub; “here’s a nickel kid, go play in traffic and don’t bother me anymore”.

Oh well...

Heh that is how I kinda feel. I mean, maybe +2 for each 120 tamer skill, so a total of +6... but +2 seems so small lol

I don't think it is so small when I get 16 in the stable instead of 14. It is unreal the pets you can have with the extra 2 when you have 2 tamers maxed out. 32 pets sounds good to me.

On top of that all the non-tamer slots. I can have about 108 pets total.

My swordsman can have many times that in swords on only one character. Same with my archer.

As has been pointed out, other character classes can store tons of weapons, armor and various other gear in their bank boxes and houses. As control slots limit the number of pets that a tamer can use at any given time additional “pet storage” presents absolutely no balance issues.

108 pets sounds like a big number. If you have two maxed out tamers (totaling 32 slots per your example) then you would have 76 pets on 19 non-tamer characters across three accounts. Those 76 slots on the non-tamer characters are not going to be particularly useful to your tamer characters so 108 is a misleading value. Further consider that one must gather or purchase relatively expensive 120 power scrolls to get to that magical 16 slot goal.

Now that I think about it, that last expansion, which included +25% storage space, logically, should have included extra stable slots. I ponyed up the $$ for that expansion for three accounts and I would gladly give up the extra house/bank storage space for more stable slots. In fact I suggested that they create a way to “offload” a pet’s data to house storage at a one stored pet consumes XX number of lockdowns rate. That would have provided people with a useful choice between storing pets or stuff. Instead we get hitching posts and the option to pay more $$ for an expansion with only +2 slots.

Sorry, but I remain unimpressed with having to pay $$ for a measly +2 slots when more flexible alternatives have been ignored.

To be completely honest, it is not likely that I would purchase this expansion even had they been more generous with stable slots. I can not even remember the last time I logged in to actually play the game. It is becoming increasingly difficult to justify paying for three accounts that I seldom use let alone an expansion…

Do what I did, I have two accounts, a year ago I was just not logging in, so I closed one account and left one open to keep my house. Now I am playing again and considering opening my 2nd account back up (it has my crafter and fisher)

You should close two accounts and store all the stuff in the houses into banks and such, then leave one open just in case. Then if you never play for like a year, just close the last account.

"...2 additional stable slots for all accounts..."

Is that 2 additional per CHARACTER for all SA upgraded accounts OR 2 additional per upgraded ACCOUNT?

I think it's great news since I know I read within the past year or so that server storage space was the reason we couldn't get more stable slots for all chars, (just can't find a link).

I like the idea that we have to pay for the extra slots and I also like the idea of only being allowed 2 extra per ACCOUNT.

I think forcing us to make decisions about certain things in UO would make the game more interesting, for example, 2 stable slots per ACCOUNT, would probably require stable slot TOKENS, then require us to DECIDE which of our chars get those slots.

So does my smith get one and my idocer get 1 (I'm not really a fan of fire beetles)? Or does my smith get both? Or my idocer?

Maybe I should give both to my tamer and make her my idocer and just force myself to use a fire beetle?

Decisions, decisions!

:)

I used to idoc alot and at one point I owned (yes I abused trial accounts to hold houses!) a castle, 6 keeps, and several 18 x 18 all full of idoc loot.

Over 15,000 items from trash to treasure. That's too many items to have to deal with in UO and item management was more work (a nightmare) than it was fun.

I was a supporter of something being done to end trial account abuse and, since the devs did a great job of that with the new rule about trial accounts not being able to own houses, I have had to downsize my holdings and I am so so GLAD I was forced to give up alot of those items and space ingame OR pay to keep it.

So long as the means to keep 15000 items ingame was available at no cost to me I would have kept doing it I'm sure.

I now own many many bods in bod books on over 50 npc vendors. I don't know how much space they take up on a server but I know it's probably more space than an average player uses.

Again, so long as the game allows me to hold so many items for very cheap I will continue to do so, but if forced to give up most or pay extra to store them I'd have to make a choice and I would make that choice.

I like the idea of not being able to have everything ingame, of having to use strategy to decide what I want or need most and then letting go of the rest.

Having to use a bit of strategy to make choices ingame such as who to give our 2 stable slot tokens to on our SA upgraded account or would help to make our ingame experiences a bit more diverse I think.

Either way, 2 stable slot tokens per SA upgraded account or 2 extra stable slots per char per SA upgraded account, paying for extra storage like stable slots via SA is a win/win situation in my opinion.

The more money UO can make for EA Games the longer UO survives AND we ALSO get the extra stable slots we've been needing for such a long long time.

Nothing bad in this deal.

While they're only one part of a big expansion that doesn't dismiss the fact that stable slots are a fundamental feature of the taming profession. We can't keep new pets without stabling to hold them, so to some tamers this does matter. If you're going to tame one of the new pets the devs took time and love to create, you kinda need somewhere for it to sleep ;)

The thing is, there are no right or wrong ways to play UO. So this attitude that some players have of "it's good for me so you should be happy" doesn't really help anyone. What if I'm not you? Should I be buying the exact same present for my family members this Christmas and just saying "well so-and-so is happy so you should be too". I don't think the boyfriend would appreciate getting the same perfume my mum got, just as I don't think I should fake excitement over something that doesn't excite me. I'm also thinking further ahead than this expansion because if this is our total for a few expansions to come, I'm going to need another few tamers in training.
