This has gone on forever, dropping 1-2 a week. Drop these houses that have accounts that have been deactivated for years.

I thought that if you stopped paying for your account, the house would drop after 90 days.... what you are saying is that the houses stays even after that time??

There have been some bugs with ....
Houses owned by OSI: those are free to delete. You just need to report them (not shure to whom) and it will get set on a to-do(delete)-list for someone. (From waht ive understood, theres no way for today eas employees to track those houses down in their database.
Houses placed during come-back-periods: Since those houses were not placed by accounts, that were considered active at that time, they bypassed the 'getting condemned on account deactivation'.
Probably:
-there could be problems with very old houses that had rented vendor spots.
- there could be a problem with very old grandfathered houses (which are getting/got refreshed by opening the front door once a month by a co-owner).

A sidenote: theres no way to actually know, if a house is on a deactivated account or not. That player usually could ..
- have more accounts and play mainly on another shard
- have his account active, but not playing atm

It would be great if something could be done about these. There's a house next to mine that fits into this category, that's blocking me (and a neighbor) from resizing to a bigger house.
It's frustrating to think that it it hasn't been used for years and wont ever fall.

Are these houses that have no owner listed, or are those something else?

If you have any question about a house and you think it should have dropped fill out a feedback request for customer support issues. They will be able to go and see if it is an active account. Unfortunately, we will not be able to give the status to you due to our privacy policy.

here's the feedback link:

I remember a while back there was some third party which would read the data stream and know at server up exactly where all the houses on the server would fall.

Without having to look for them.

It simply would give out the coordinates.

I wonder if these things are still out there or one has to actually really work to find IDOCs going all over the place and interrogating each and every house sign.........

Nope that would involve hacking the server. Data steam sent to the client involves that the player is actually at that location. If someone ever hacked the server like that they would just be able to anything they like from instant teleporting from 1 side of the map to another,Instant killing peerless, knowing where every player is at anby moment in time. They will probably be locked up for hacking. Only dev and gm to a limit extent have ever had these abilities. Now if youre speaking about a old renegade dev back in the days then I can see that. Not too much renegade gm's they are still pretty limited.

Not sure what you are talking about, I was merely wondering whether some may or not have it way easy to find IDOCs somehow.

Popps, there are just a lot of people (parts of guilds mostly) that spend their time hunting for IDOCs. If you do it once every day or two, you can pretty much find several that are falling each day. When you get a guild involved, that's more people looking for them, and more people timing when it switches from Greatly Worn to IDOC, and then they all show up when the house falls.

It may seem like they have an unfair advantage, but most likely the only advantage they have is the number of people helping them, and the time to be able to look for IDOCs regularly.

Oh well, they must be doing it at a different time that I am playing because whenever I walk the land, I hardly see anyone running on land and looking for House signs......

Last time I met someone it was so far back I can't remember.......

I see a lot of houses that have no owner listed and are private but can be entered anyway. I always wondered if they were bugged somehow.

I was replying to what you said of someone log in and somehow scan every house on the shard immediately without having to have the houses on the screen

Problem is I know guys that deactivated years ago, yet still have keeps and castles standing. And see DOZENS of the "Owned by OSI" homes. I can run all of Sosaria in about 3 hours and mark every IDOC, why can't EA send out 5 GMs per shard and get this done in 3-4 days? At least drop the Owned By homes

As Chrissay said ... simply report those 'Owned by OSI' houses .... I remeber there was a call for help to catch those houses. Not shure if it was on the herald or before the herald came up or if it was at these forums.

If you're having a grp of ppl working together on idocs you can split up that no one needs to search the whole shard and therefor reducing the time invested for everyone. And dont forget that you dont need to search every day for new IDOCs. A 3- or maybe even 4/5-days cycle seem to be enough to catch up every IDOC. If you split up 5 or 6 ppl looking every 4'th day for new Idocs, it probably would be a rare catch to meet one of those doing so.

If the accounts have been deactivated for years, it's highly unlikely that the houses are still standing.

Just because you don't see someone playing doesn't mean there isn't someone paying.

And... I'm not sure which shard you're on where housing is such an issue, but since Great Lakes has multiple 18x18 locations open and ready for placing, I'm not exactly believing there's such an issue here.

It was over a year ago that the call for help catching the "Owned by OSI" buildings came from: "UO barmstrong" <[email protected]>

I reported a Castle on Arctic Island, Sonoma Shard, placed at the start of Trammel which, during the following years, remained inactive. My Arctic Gardens was next to it so I was always in there tending plants and never saw anyone go in or out of the building even though it obviously contained items and had items on the roof that I could always see. The house sign showed no owner. One could walk on the steps but not enter. Soon after reporting that castle, it went IDOC. Later I learned, players I've known for years, are the castle's new owners.
