Highlights of the Meet and Greet

1) The current EM arc will be wrapped up during the next several weeks. We will start with a new arc, with some familiar faces and some new faces, after that.
2) The next couple of weeks are likely to be slow in terms of events.
3) EM Seppo will be going on vacation from August 24th till August 30th. EM Pallando will be around.
4) EM Pallando announced that, throughout the coming week, citizens interested in gathering information about Trubo for Lady Dawn will be able to do so.
5) Cloak of Silence are likely to be handed out again in future, along with the pies.

A note regarding M&G’s in Felucca
Meet and Greets are a great opportunity to converse with the event moderators and present your point of view on things. This time the gathering was held in Felucca so that all players can attend, regardless of their hue.

However, some chose to treat the gathering as a Yew gate PvP session. This not only resulted in them losing the opportunity to participate but also wasted our time. We have no problems with people indulging in PvP at an event in Felucca. However, there is a time and place for everything and it is definitely not an appropriate time when we have specifically requested against it. In case there is some prevailing confusion, fighting outside of the house and preventing others from entering was not the point.

Shortsightedness can be a curse.

------------------------------------

My meeting notes:

Having a 'light weekend' after all the current scenario events, EM Seppo and EM Pallando decided to hold a Meet & Greet to get some feedback and to say Hello to the Baja residents, as the last Meet & Greet had been several months ago.

At the earlier Meet & Greets, people had asked for events with 'more deaths', and laughingly announced, 'I think that request has been fulfilled.' Then went on to discuss the current 'transition period' with Stygian Abyss soon to be released, and current loose threads to wrap up before then so there may be more SA focused events ... including 'a new place to die!', and more events on both facets.

The next couple of weeks may be slow for events as EM Seppo is going to disappear in the mountains for a vacation the last week of August and will not be reading email or messages during that time, however EM Pallando will be around and 'on duty'.

EM Pallando, beginning tomorrow and throughout the week those interested will be able to follow up on Dawn's request for more information on Trubo by asking townsfolk such as the guard, and other NPCs including the workers at the Faire Grounds . As we have done in the past, we will report whatever we discover, not to the thief master this time, but to Dawn. And, unlike the thief master, Dawn does not require us to request a 'task'. A more complete announcement will be on EM Seppo and EM Pallando's official website, goldenbrewtavern.com, Monday.

The EMs congratulated those who fought against the mercenaries ... 'A well fought and very hard earned victory.

EM Pallando reminded us, 'Remember mercenaries are driven back, scattered and leaderless, but things may not just be done yet.' We were told all shadowlords remain, but 'this arc is coming to a close with the coming of Stygian Abyss and a new one will open up.'

A question and answer session was opened:
Q: When is the next mercenary fight?
A: The mercenaries have been defeated. The mercenaries in Casca's employ have been utterly defeated, and the leaders are dead, and the Blue Scorpions were driven back to Tokuno.

Q: Is the Casca event over?
A: No, Casca is very much king still. Casca is indeed not over and done with.

Q: Is there going to be more done with the trade thing that started with Gideon?
A: Yes, we planned to use Gideon, it's just difficult to say when, though, not enough time to use him.

Q: Has a winner for the Faire Grounds Expansion Contest been chosen?
A: We are going to combine the two, as was suggested by most people.

Q: Have the EMs been enjoying their time on Baja?
A: Yes! Definately! I get to spawn ninjas on people. (Pallando)

Q: I'm curious about blackrock information, is there going to be more about it? Will we actually be able to use it?
A: That is a dev thing.

Q: Will there be more events by the Thief Master?
A: Yes.

There were several questions regarding the EMs attire
EM Seppo reminded us he started 'the bandana trend of Fall 2009'

The EMs then asked for suggestions for future events. The crowd's replies included:
Fishing
Boat race
Chicken fights
A survival event
A maze event
Small events when the bigger events have died down
An event celebrating SA
A celebration for the EMs first anniversary in December

The EMs brought up they have been discussing a celebration for the victory against the mercenaries, and perhaps they could use the crowd's suggestion of events during that celebration, then again reminded us there will be future handouts for the Cloaks of Silence and Mesanna's Cream Pies.
EM Seppo stated, 'There might be a taming event in the near future.', and that he keeps meaning to drop in on Sunday Night Taming Hour, however the usual time is very inconvenient for him. A suggestion was made that Toni Fierce, GM of [M!S], be contacted about arranging a taming hour around the EMs schedules.

With that, the Meet & Greet concluded.

------------------------------------

While EM Seppo and EM Pallando did not mention this, I would like to remind everyone that guilds and individuals are more than encouraged to host events, too, such as the recent Nude Dungeon Run that was sponsored by The Newbies In Training.

I don't understand why they would even hold a meet and greet in Fel though. I mean. Just because you have a red doesn't mean ALL your characters are red.

I suppose it's more of a symbolical gesture than anything. It is a welcome gesture, but there's no surprise on my part that the Fel players couldn't behave themselves.

Again.

I'm getting weary of defending Fel players, even the people in my own guild. Fel is as Fel does, I suppose.

I saw plenty of PvPers out fighting the Shadowlord spawns on their alternate characters; you're absolutely correct, most PvPers have at least a crafter that's blue.

Oh, and before I forget. EM Seppo, if you're reading this, have a wonderful vacation!

Well brother, there are just as many troublemakers in Trammel as there is in Felucca. Granted some will disagree with me, but we shouldn't let a roudy few ruin it for the rest of us.

*nods in agreement* To date, they haven't had many of these casual gatherings in Fel so it's a learning process.

Hail Folks, I suppose I should have attended instead of sending cousin Dar (TOT) on my behalf. However, I was attending to an errand for another.

Cousin Dar thot I was concerned without need that the Meet was to be held in Felucca. Sadly, I have spent far more time in Felucca than all my kin combined. Dar reported the following.

"I arrived only slightly before the Meet was to begin. A magical gate appearing similar to a small tornado whisked me into what appeared to be an underground chamber. Empty save a building to the east, I and my Greater Dragon (brought along just in case) wandered over to this building. Outside the building was a pale greenish moongate, clearly an entrance into the building. The room inside was fairly full of chairs, and really not built to accomodate Greater Dragons. So I commanded "double D" to wait outside. I entered the moongate and was whisked inside. While a murderer or two were inside and behaving far better than most murderers, just prior to EM Seppo and EM Pallando's arrival a murderer arrived who immediately attacked and killed an attendee.

The arrival of the EM's slightly improved decorum, and some murderers were booted from the structure (but not booted from the underground cavern). This allowed disruptive murderers to kill late comers, and to kill any pets parked outside such as my Dragon. As attacks began upon my dragon, I asked repeatedly for the EM's to move it inside. As a Tamer I care greatly for my pets well being. I knew I could log out and back in and my pet would join me inside. However, while this worked for a split second, neither my pet nor I was "friended" to the building we were in so we were teleported outside. I immediately and repeatedly cried out for the EM's to move us back inside. Only after I was dead and my pet was dead, did the EM's do anything.

Now I kno that murderers will be murderers (at least some will) and Felucca will be Felucca. However, promises of EM protection of our safety were promised when we were invited to attend. These promises were NOT kept, or were not worth the air breathed to utter them. Behavior such as this AT EVENTS, especially at "Meet & Greets," and failures to keep promises made, especially by EM's are reasons why many NEVER set foot inside Felucca, and destroy any credibility EM's surely must be attempting to retain. No wonder cousin Elladan adopts that annoying grin anytime I defend Feluccans or tell him I'm going there."

So, I Elladan, suggest that either security at future Meet & Greets in Felucca be vastly improved, or they be moved to more civil lands populated by civilized citizens.

So it was kind of like holding grandma's quilting bee inside the confines of San Quentin prison? Hmm.. how could anyone have thought there would be trouble?

What kind of tamer doesn't have a pet ball attached to their beloved dragon. Even my dexers have pet balls for their swamp dragons. *scratches head*

Sorry I missed the meeting. I thought it was at a different time.

Congratulations to both of the Faire Ground Expansion Entries - one of which was mine :). Woot!

I have found that there are more troublemakers in the Trammel rule set lands because they can hide behind the rules there.

Yeah.. geez Dar! What kind of tamer are you anyway? Without pet ball?

At least tell me you had your uber suit, uber macros, uber scripts and uber weapons all up and running..... NO? Well hell boy! What kind of player are you? You know, those fellies.. always hiding behind the rules of fel!

What are you pancakes about my friend? Wouldn't you much rather be rez killed, dry looted, pet killed, rezzed, restocked, pet rezzed, and commit hours training it back up then stand around in Tram and have to look through your journal to read what the EM's are saying because of those badly behaved players in Tram?

It's a small price to pay, which by the way you should be grateful to pay..so quit your pancakes!

Hail Folks,

I'm reasonably sure Dar went into Felucca with nothing in his backpack that wasnt either blessed or insured (bandages excepted). I'm guessing he was unsure if a pet summoning ball would work in an EM constructed building in an EM constructed cavern, as they dont work in some other places in game.

Also I suspect his main point was directed at Promises made by Ems then not kept by EMs.

As I have pointed out many, many times, had it been up to me all those many years ago, I would have made Felucca a "consensual-only PvP" land. No need for Trammel. Sadly however, as is usually the case, the Dev(il) teams decisions prevailed and were woefully lacking in any good sense.

I sense some sarcasm from my dear friend Yalp, properly directed at those deserving of it. Regardless, I know well who my friends are. I do not always agree with my friends, but I ALWAYS value my friends highly, above almost all else. I'm reasonably sure I have never abandoned a friend, and hope I never do. I accept my friends as I find them, hoping they do the same with me.

Perhaps Dar had to learn (the hard way) what I learned long ago. Dev(il)s design our game mechanics. They favor Felons and murderers within Felucca for reasons I think are easily discerned. They created non-feluccan mechanics and lands, not because they wanted to, but because without them UO would have ceased to be economically viable. They created them because they had to. It was that or pull the plug and turn out the lights.

Since the day they created Trammel, they regretted it. They constantly seek ways to undo it without killing off the player population. It eats away at their guts and their souls that players are able to escape beyond their reach.

Thankfully, folks like me got most of what we wanted...and UO was saved. But just like the undead, cursed to wander the earth unable to find any love, warmth, or joy, Dev(il)s and Feluccans are similarly damned...and similarly unhappy.

Now, I have wandered slightly afar from some posters comments. Yet I remain consistent, and correct, in my musings.

One final note. A few folks have commented on their perceptions that folks are worse in Trammel than in Felucca. For a small subset of Trammellans this may be so. However, it has been my experience that these folks are almost always alter egos of the very undead, cursed and deranged folks who ruined Felucca in the first place. Constrained by the shackles of civilized behavior written into non-Feluccan lands, these already base individuals are driven virtually insane.

We deal with them as best we are able. And for the most part, we are very able...driving them madder still.

If EM's persist in catering to the insane, I would obviously recommend normal folks leave those events to the EM's and their patients. But I have made the same recommendations to Dev(il)s, GM's, and EA lo these many years.

There are excellent reasons why far more folks spend far more of their time outside Felucca than inside Felucca, and why many never set foot into Felucca at all.

It is UO's version of a virtual insane asylum.

While I see where everyone is coming from, I am going to have to respectfully disagree with most folks in this thread.

The Event Moderator program was created not to appeal to one particular playstyle. It was not meant to cater to the majority, nor the minority. They are here for the community as a whole. Trammelites. Feluccians. Roleplayers. Crafters. Spawners. Fishermen. Explorers. This Meet and Greet, as I understand it, was an opportunity for the Event Moderators to meet with a community that they've not visited in a couple months (they've previously met with the Trammelites on a number of occasions). Also remember that the previous storyarc was centered in Felucca and the player-run towns there. Although everyone was more than welcome to attend, this was a Feluccian event.

But with that said, I think it might be wise if they did what they used to do when they first arrived on our shard. I believe the first couple Meet and Greets included the Event Moderators spending about a half hour in Trammel, and then another half hour in Felucca. Then, no one felt obligated to visit Felucca if they did not want to.

"Reds behaving badly"

This is why I love being a member of Spawner's Inc. We actually get to fight and 1/2 the time win fights with Red individuals and guilds. Not all Murderers are socially inept, rude, ignorant, & egotistical... but that does describe some.

You may die in the process but if you want a chance to kill a red... join SI.

What promises were made by the EMs then not kept? All along they have stated if coming to events in Fel, beware, EM powers do not include banning or jailing players. In their original announcement it was said, 'Note: There will be no fighting or stealing allowed. Doing so will get you kicked out of the house.'

Those causing problems were booted outside. There's not much, if anything, more the EMs could do. The can not ban people from the area outside of the house, any more than you can ban someone from the area outside of your UO houses.

As they said last night, the past 8 months have been a learning experience for them. They're trying, and they're learning. And they get as frustrated as the rest of us, if not more so, when people disrupt an event ... Trammel or Felucca.

I understand your frustration, but blame the troublemakers if you must blame someone, but to lambast the EMs for your being killed in Felucca really is not fair.

As for those disrupting being 'insane' .. they may be immature, they may be self centered, they may lack self control ... but MANY mature people play in Felucca almost exclusively with very few problems. To be honest, I felt the overall behavior at this event was an improvement over the last meeting in Felucca, I give credit to those PvPrs who were inside the house (including a couple of reds) who chose to stay in their seats and listen to what the EMs had to say ... Perhaps the troublemakers are learning their misbehavior is unacceptable in these situations.

If people want to say that all people who play in fel are bad and immature...does no one not remember the event with the two big dragons in front of Yew bank? Guess who was behaving badly? I can tell you that it was NOT fel based players because some of the people I saw saying those silly and pointless and rude comments spend most of their time in tram, if not all of their time.

I honestly know a lot of nice reds, Super Ken has helped me countless times setting up my char, what he should wear, what his skills should be. I spend half my time in fel, and half my time in tram and he was able to help me find a build that is great for PvM and will allow me to hold my own in PvP.

Veral has also given me lots of tips on PvP and getting powerscrolls and such and I hopefully one day soon will get to do some champ spawns with him.

Give'r Da Onion is another person who has been really awesome, within 20 minutes of just meeting him he took me to his home and replaced some of my armor pieces with better stuff. He then gave me a really good mage weapon to use and didn't ask for anything in return.

I have said it many times before and I will say it here. I have mad respect for Cartel. Sure there may be someone who's rude here and there, but you know what? Some times it can be because of a miss understanding. I have seen people at fel events wonder why they are getting attacked by reds and all I had to do was look at their weapon and guess what? "hit area **** 65%" - this will make YOU attack the red even if you dont want too. They dont know that your weapon decided to use a 65% chance, and that in itself will slowly eat away at their life.

I personally miss Fel only, why? Because of this:
Back when I started yes you had your PKer here and there and 7xGM skills was hard to come by and you were almost god like to everyone. You had no locking of skills, no stat locking...
But....People were generally nice to others because no one knew who had a red. You did NOT want to get on anyones bad side in fear of them hunting you down on their red and killing you. Maybe I was just lucky but I was rarely PKed while out in a dungeon. Does no one not remember the Bone Knight room training? People did that all the time before tram came out, and guess what? rarely anyone ever said anything bad, we all had a GREAT time while doing something boring just to pass the time. And I kid you not the DAY Tram was released all the sudden the BK room was filled with people being completely rude and then the rude people saying something stupid like:
"oh ya? then drop a stone! lets take it to fel!" and when you actually said "ok" and used a stone, guess who wouldnt go in the gate? The rude person.

Believe it or not but tram was the birth of rude people in UO because people realized they could get away with stuff.
