Is there anything you can do? (Kind of long)

I am an avid tamer on the Napa shard. I love it! I tame everything from Firesteeds and Cu's (gimme Fire color Gods of UO! PLZ!) to Hellcats (looking for pink) and even kill/taming Mongbats for an event. I am always taming something... for me... for others, almost every day.

Today I just wanted to get a couple of points without hassle... without mobs... just peaceful, easy taming. Where do you go for that you say? Why the Jhelom Bull pens of course. Two lovely bulls spawn there... and they do so quickly.

So there I am... for I rarely go there and actually see Bulls, they are usually MIA (now I know why). This morning... shortly after server up... they were trotting around happy. I tamed several... using a unicorn to kill so the next would spawn. I left for TWO seconds to make my daughter a sandwich. When I came back... no bulls. I knew the guy that was there when I left... so I went in search of him and asked what had happened after I left because the bull spawn was locked up.

He insanely informs me that he looted my kills and the bulls are safe. I ask from what... he says (and I quote), "They are safe from liars and waste." Yes... at this point I too am confused. I state so... he informs me that he saves the bulls from lying tamers and wasteful killing.

NOW... I can only assume he means... lying during tame... as in... "Lets be friends. We will keep each other safe." The lines rolling during a tame... AND the waste is the killing after tame and not stripping resources... which on bulls... I don't do because I have an overabundance of meat and leather.

Just for clarification... I ask him to repeat it... I tell him that is messed up and walk away. He follows... tells me to tame elsewhere and that that is lazy. I have NO idea what he's talking about at this point... so I can't repeat it all to you... BUT... the point...

WHAT IN THE WORLD IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE? He messes up an entire tame spawn... PUT THERE FOR TAMING (I assume because stratics lists it as a taming location) and why? Because we lie to them during the tame and then kill them without looting the resources? AND... there is NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE?

I didn't page a GM... but he is intentionally doing this so no one can tame there... He does it every morning... Does anyone know how to handle this situation? YES there are bulls in Del. and outside Trinsic... and outside Haven... BUT... this is ridiculous!

I am an active member of my shard. I go to events... have vendors... help any player that asks if I can... and this individual is a self proclaimed uninvolved player. He stays out of all gatherings... events... spawns... and I know that is not the point... but can he really do this? Every morning mess up that spawn location because he deems it cruel and unusual punishment to tame/kill/no loot the Bulls there?

He sounds like a player trying to disrupt tamers from getting gains there, and making up a story to make himself look like a RPer instead of a silly person.

I think it's best to give him as little attention as possible and eventually he'll get bored. If he's hanging around after he moved the bulls, clearly he's enjoying frustrating tamers, so the less you react the better Or just pop in and out to see when he's offline, usually these guys tend to get bored after a wee while so you can figure out a routine that avoids seeing them entirely.

Because nobody owns the spawn, if he decides to move or tame and abandon bulls, I'm doubtful a GM will do anything. And calling a GM really caters to his need for attention. I find it much better to either get one up on said person, or leave them sad and lonely by themselves. If the GM came and decided to take no action, he's going to be a REAL pain in the butt when he sees you again.

i'd just recall into Del for your gains if you can't be sure of avoiding him. Eventually he'll find fewer tamers come to give him the attention he craves and he'll move on. But I'd say that if folks argue with him or page GMs he'll hang around like a bad smell.

If you have a stealther, you'll possibly be able to see what he does with the bulls simply by hanging around. I've followed a few wannabe griefers and undone their work like that

or he could just b a vigilante and keeping people from scripting/macroing taming to which i applaud...not stating the OP is doing anything like that...i repeat i am not saying the OP is scripting/macroing...just that i have heard plenty of people that just run scripts there to get gains so guess im giving him the benefit of a doubt, though he should stop when he is actually speaking to a person that he can definately verify is not a scripter. my 2 cents

This is an adult male... in his 50's. He honestly believes it is wrong to tame/kill the bulls and waste the resources. He actually thinks it's wrong to tame/kill ANYTHING in the game. STRONGLY believes this. He gets very upset about it. He's not trying to stop scripters/macroing... and no, I was not doing that. I can't figure out how anyone does that but I too get irritated when I find someone afk gaining away.

This was not a stranger... his son is in my guild... so we know him. And the son has mentioned to a guild member that his dad is funny about the taming of a pet in the game and killing it. I knew nothing about any of this... It was just this morning that I found out he does this.. and has been doing it a VERY long time.

So we've gone from intentionally griefing... tooooo... mental illness? Though I agree... paging a GM would be pointless. It's just... WOW. They are pixels.. it's not like anyone needs to call PETA!


EDIT- had a second thought.. is there anyway to reset the spawn? Besides finding his "safe" zone and killing the beasties?

This is one of the funniest things I have heard about in this game.

There is nothing wrong with this picture. The bulls were not put there just for taming. The bulls were put on the farm, because it is a farm, and there are bulls on farms. The players can interact with the bulls in several ways. I could easily say that the bulls are on that farm to provide leather for tailoring.

There is something you can do about it though. Go to another bull spawn. Just north of Delucia is a very open location where many bulls spawn. Or tame Unicorns, they are non-agressive and easy to get to.

EDIT- had a second thought.. is there anyway to reset the spawn? Besides finding his "safe" zone and killing the beasties?

There is no way to reset the spawn if the bulls are alive.

In which case I'd suggest giving him a very wide berth until such time as he figures out that animals are best helped in the real world with something constructive.

You can't get the bull spawn reset, but there's a limit to where those bulls can be and still block the spawn.

I'd just go to Delucia or Fel pens instead.

I can tell you that we have been getting MILES out it in guild chat. "Can't PvP because killing is wasteful if you're not going to skin and use the resources. And elven skin is hard to sew."

Joking aside... I usually go elsewhere anyway because there are NEVER bulls there. I just happen to run by there this morning. Although, half of Napa complains about it... it's just amazing WHY they are always gone. I was told he puts them on a boat and releases them.

Anyway.. yeah.. it's funny and frustrating and insane and just... woah. Thanks for the replies!

Wow, I'm saddened by the replies. This used to be a big role playing game, but now we have people saying people who role play have mental illnesses. Amazing. Maybe the OP needs to take a few deep breaths and realize they aren't the only person playing the game? There is no spawn specifically for them, and they are getting upset about something they could be learning from.

I used to be in FoB on siege. That is friends of beasts. We would pk people who would kill animals and had books we handed out that gave suggestions on monsters they could tame instead of animals. The poor animals only get a life of two or three hours before they poof forever!

Ok that's all I can say. I'm actually pretty irritated at the OP's presumption here. It takes all kinds, and to be insulting to someone else just because you don't "get" what they are doing is rude and narrow minded.

I am guessing that you missed the part where I explained WE KNOW THE GUY. He does not RP or do spawns or events... He is uninvolved. His son is in our guild and has complained at how his dad gets when he sees us tame/kill. I am amazed at how so many people in forums jump to reply to something without reading the thread. I can assure you it is not presumption... the guy really is saving the bulls in RL in his head. I'm just sorry you felt you had to get all worked up before reading the whole thing.

AND I did not state that it was MY SPAWN. In fact, there was a guy there before the saving of the bulls that was in there sharing the bull tame with me. I said I was there taming them... I know the guy... went afk... he knows me and still pulled them out. Before you decide to lump me into your "bad UO player, unjust and rude person" catagory... you might want to notice I said earlier that there are MANY who are upset that the guy does this and there are NEVER bulls in that pen.

I tame everything in this shard... mostly monsters... having just chosen to tame bulls that morning because I wanted something that required less attention. Yesterday morning I did Nightmares. This guy KNEW I was there taming them... KNOWS ME and was upset that I was killing them and not looting them. And it was NOT roleplay... it was serious.

I actually wanted a solution before he ends up with all of Napa knowing it's him and deciding to take matters into their own hands. But I guess a solution never occurred to you as I am just a big meany.

I read the whole thread. You stated you went there this morning. You asked him why he took the bulls because you didn't know and yet here you are suddenly claiming that YOU KNOW THE GUY (your caps not mine). So what is it, you just found out this morning that he was doing this thing, or that you have known for a while and know this is what the issue is and he isn't just RPing...if you knew he did this, then why did you question him over it and talk over guild chat etc about it?

Honestly its actually much, much worse if you are here making a post about someone who is mentally ill, calling someone who is ill "insane" and acting like the real issue is getting some bull spawn fixed. It's just a freaking game, I think mental illness trumps a bull spawn.

I think I preferred it when you just came off as narrow minded.

But here you go, a solution to the terrible problem of the bulls in jhelom being monopolized by someone besides a tamer trying to get gains (oh the horror!): go to the other facet and tame them! Or better yet, go to one of other dozen or so spawns and tame there. YW.

1) Tamers have always been the most hated profession.
2) I'd be amazed if this is the first time someone has stopped you taming bulls.
3) Most players who intentionally disrupt tamers are "leet" players from Fel who come to Tram to tell you that you suck because you play in Tram, and also that they do it because they hate tamers.
4) GM's will just tell you that creatures are for anyone to do with as they please.
5) GM's will tell you that someone following you around killing anything you try to tame is not harassment, and you should just go elsewhere.
6) GM's will tell you that if someone is following you around and even travels to another part of the world to keep stopping you from taming you should log out and try again after a few hours when the player may be gone. If after all that the player is still stopping you from taming then you may put in a harassment report...which will get the reply "We'll look into it" and nothing will happen.

This is what i've learned over years from having multiple tamers and tamer friends.

correct me here, but isn't moving spawn to an area where it doesnt spawn and releasing it a violation of the terms of service.

i often hear that argument made when people use cu sidhe's to raise disco.

The issue with cu's in that situation is that they're generally trapped inside a building so the player can get easy safe gains. Simply taming something and releasing it elsewhere then doing nothing further with it? I really can't see any GM pulling you up for that.

All the player would have to do is say "oh, I forgot to release the bulls and they followed me, so I just released them when I realised. I had no idea the spawn was blocked". That's assuming the GM even turned up to ask.

It would be useful if the spawn could never be blocked in this way, but sadly we have the current system to work with.

Well don't overreact to a criticism or anything. /sarcasm

I don't like to see people who are unable to help themselves get made fun of. This guy may need help and you are upset about something trivial. I do understand getting upset about trivial things, of course it happens to us all, but there are more important things going on here than you being frustrated. Just trying to put it all in perspective. I'm sure I could have been more tactful, but I got upset for this poor old guy.

No, there is nothing you can do to get him in trouble or make him stop. GMs aren't going to fault his behavior, and as it is tram you can't kill him. I do not know what other solution you were looking for. The only ways around this are to tame elsewhere, or tame there when he isn't on. Possibly a solution you were not looking for but might work is instead of finding what he does frustrating, play along with it and RP with him. If he was monopolizing the cu spawn or some other area where there is only one way to get that kind of creature I could see it being a problem, but this is fairly harmless and probably ends up thwarting a lot of script tamers. *shrugs*

I just posted a short story I wrote some time ago. I thought it might have some bearing on this man's stand against tamers.

I wrote that story after more than a year of farming cu sidhe, and thinking how evil the process truly was. My pets were more than just pixels to me, but if you want to be cold and logical, that is all they are, I am aware of that. I just thought it would make an interesting story.

edit: I hadn't read all the nonsense further on in the thread before I posted this. This isn't meant as criticism of you Salya, or anyone else. It's just a story I wrote that I wanted to share with some who might understand it, and it seemed to fit the context.
