I have never been so devasted with UO as I was yesterday. Apparently, UO decided to have some sort of invasion in Luna on the Great Lakes Shard. My character was inside of my cousin's house (within the Luna city walls) when this invasion happened. I had to step aside from my computer ( due to reality, real life). I come back to find that I am dead with no bones in sight. I couldn't even fathom what happened since I was inside a home that was inside the Luna walls.

It is unfortunate that UO has decided to have an invasion inside of the walls of Luna. If you are a crafter and do not constantly look at message boards you would have no idea that such a thing could happen to you.

It would be nice if UO would send an alert to your character that could inform you THAT YOU CAN DIE INSIDE OF A HOUSE INSIDE OF THE CITIES WALLS. Especially since with these invasions the rules change and you have no safety at all.

What is most unfortunate, is that I came back to UO after a hiatus and have been working dilligently on the new plants and creating new plants. Beautiful new colors of hops, spider trees and bonsais. Now, because of this city invasion I am done with UO and done with the plants.

The loss is just too much for me.

If your cousin has a house in Luna, he has to be rich. Hit him up for some goods.

Bah, what should I say then that I lost all of my goodies in my old Tower, before even Trammel ever existed, due to a house break in ?

I did nothing wrong, other players used a bug in the game (which is not my responsibility) and yet, I could say nothing nor could I recover anything.......

And that is not my only case, I had more over the years....

As unfortunate as that is, and as sorry as I am for your loss, homes in the city walls are still outside of the guard zone and are completely free game for an invasion of any kind..

I agree with many that the city invasions have to stop. They are very lame in my opinion and draw people from the major cities. Britain Bank used to be huge; now it's dead because of invasions. Please don't tell me Luna's next.

There needs to be some sort of system message when an invasion like this takes place to warn players such as the OP who want no part of it.I agree with the OP and think they have a totally legitimate gripe.

I could have been in Luna with my 5 Pack Horses after a shard transfer and lost all my stuff I had spent months acquiring. If that had happened to me you've probably see the biggest rant to date on stratics that surely would have earned me several infractions and perhaps a banning because I would have been livid. Point is it could have happened.

If they Dev's or EM's are going to remove a safe zone they need to announce it or have these invasions take place in Felucca ruleset.

When people lose stuff it's not about the items it's about the time spent in the game gone to waste when you lose those items.

If they're going to set up an event whoever is responsible can at least do it right and send out a system message warning the players.

Amateur hour!

The last reported sighting of a tornado in my home town was in 1965.
BS! Obviously you haven't seen any of the shows of guys chasing and filming Twisters.

People are monitoring weather patterns in the Tornado states and people have been issued warning when they think their is danger.

Everyone can poke fun at the OP for losing a few items and wanting to quit over it but the bottom line is she is right.

She was under the trammel ruleset in Luna. You don't go changing the rules all of a sudden without a warning or making players aware of the change. I'm sorry but that is BS.

If she was sitting in Felucca when this happened then she wouldn't have a valid complaint.

The transparency is quite clear.

Okay, in the first place, if it really was your cousin's house, I imagine you are friended to that house. I don't care whether I'm in my own house, private, with no way for anyone to get in, if I have to leave for a minute, I hit CTRL-H. What is CTRL-H, you ask? My macro for hiding. You have a 100% chance of hiding in your house or any house you are friended to.

Now, if the monsters there revealed, yeah, you probably would have been dead, but if you were inside a house, you probably would have been just fine.

Aside from that, if you had to step away due to "reality, real life," there is a "logout" button that takes all of two seconds to use.
It is unfortunate that UO has decided to have an invasion inside of the walls of Luna. If you are a crafter and do not constantly look at message boards you would have no idea that such a thing could happen to you.
Let's see... Cove, Nujel'm, Britain, Trinsic, Yew... yeah... pretty much every major city has suffered an invasion. The game is like that. Wh you're blaming EA for your inability to log out is beyond me.
It would be nice if UO would send an alert to your character that could inform you THAT YOU CAN DIE INSIDE OF A HOUSE INSIDE OF THE CITIES WALLS. Especially since with these invasions the rules change and you have no safety at all.
If you've really been playing for seven years, you already know it's possible.
What is most unfortunate, is that I came back to UO after a hiatus and have been working dilligently on the new plants and creating new plants. Beautiful new colors of hops, spider trees and bonsais. Now, because of this city invasion I am done with UO and done with the plants.
Because you lost what again? Probably nothing irreplacable.

No offense, but if this is what causes you to leave UO, frankly, you were looking for an excuse to leave.

As for me, I enjoyed the invasion, and look forward to it happening again.

Holding EA responsible because you chose not to log out is silly.

Britain is not dead because of invasions. Britain is dead because:

1) You can use repair deeds and don't need to interact with another player.
2) You can sell your wares on a vendor and don't need to interact with another player.

Luna has become the new Britain precisely because of how it is designed... of course, Luna also has the highest prices in the game because of that premium property. If you're looking for a deal, most of the time you won't find it in Luna. However, you will find the best selection of anything you want within Luna's walls.

Britain didn't die because of an invasion. It died because Luna is better designed for a hub of player sales.

Believe me, Britain was already dying except for West Brit Bank LONG before Luna was even a dream in a designer's sleep.

Sorry for your loss, it sounds like your gardening meant alot to you.

My suggestion would be to keep your account open, avoid any drastic permanent decisions right at first...perhaps take a break for a few days until the shock of it has subsided some. You may want to give the game another shot...I've felt like this more than a couple of times due to all sorts of circumstances, sometimes things that would seem very small to others.

Let's have some better vibes everybody...you never know what someone might be going through in their real life. Sometimes when what you enjoy doing for fun angers/disappoints/upsets, it can be the vent for other stresses and hardships.

Vidma, if it would help you out any, I have lots of seeds in many colors and types of "old" plants on Great Lakes. They're from my last plant-growing binge a few years ago. Got too burned out on the whole process but didn't have the heart to just pitch out all the seeds and the new stuff looked a bit too time-consuming to dive back into it just yet.

I would be happy to hand over a good supply to you if you want it. It won't include seeds for the newer plants, but I can certainly go out and hunt up a good supply of the new seeds for you if you don't have characters that can do that. I may also have a few old bonsai seeds. If you have characters on Baja, or the means to make a transfer from Baja to GL, I think I could give you a slightly more complete set of seeds for the the "old" plants in every color including plain.

Send me a message if you're interested.

Cities have never been such a great place for plants to begin with. There is too much air pollution, mostly likely from that armor or that alchemist (who knows what chemicals they are mixing up there!), not to mention all the traffic.

If your plants didn't die yesterday in that incident, they would've withered away soon anyway. Sorry for your loss.

So your going to invesitgate why a player was killed who was AFK during a EM event?

????

Priceless.
There wasn't a scheduled event in Luna at that time. This is why we want to look into the situation.

Any city is fair game in UO for such attacks to happen. The bad thing is that people have homes within the walls of Luna and they expect those walls to protect them from harm. If you played on Siege you could be attacked by anyone on the streets of Luna, so the city walls are not going to protect you.

Now to quit the game just because there was an invasion on your shard is really silly. :coco: :next:

Said player has admitted to being AFK. What else needs to be looked at?

Bottom line is DONT GO AFK. Its 2 mouse clicks to log out.

So the OP blames the game for his/her own mistake/tos violation (staying logged in unattended).

Hard to feel sorry for ya, pal. The least you could do is acknowledge it was your screw up, that you should've taken 2 seconds to log out if you had to step away from the game.

I figure it's worth saying. The 2 GL EMs are *the* best pair of EMs you have on the shards bar none. (coming from a cross-shard reporter this should mean something)

What would they (EA) rather have? Keeping one AFK player, or loosing more than one when they can the EM program?

Sadly, I think they would rather keep the one over the many.

IMHO some people think EA can do no wrong.

IMHO if an event was scheduled then people would have taken time to coordinate around it. Unscheduled events and random "turns from the norm" should be seriously frowned upon.

Dude the Great Lakes EMs are awesome. The events are well thought out and well run for the most part. Of course, the Drama Clowns are always there to try to ruin the event.

Also, I need a larger ignore list as mine is always full.

Indeed what could be worse than EMs who actually interact with their player base, and the communities of their shard fluidly?

Instead they should only create static scenarios with predetermined results that the players can't truly influence. rolleyes:

I agree. We dont need to interact anymore. Sounds funny for a MMO.
