The next part of the event arc will be coming next, with SL's that drop the gems and the Crimson & Platinum dragons. As to when.....who knows?

Just out of curiosity, but if Events stopped althougether in Ultima Online, would still players play the game?

I mean, is the game played for the game, or for the Events that bring new items ??

That is, Events are the only thing nowadays that gets Ultima Online going ?

If so, I find it sad for a game that started the modern era of online multiplayer gaming and created a virtual comunity across the globe.........

For me the events and story arch just adds diversity to the game I love to play. I RP and including the dev content into my characters stories as been very rewarding. The new challenges are a change of pace from daily UO life but don't replace it. I can always find something to do, and have for the 9 years I've played.

You find is sad that EM's have live events instead of just relying on old static quests to peak players interests? You find it sad that players like them?

As far as Events in general you do know that UO started out having EM style events right? I mean I feel sorry for you if you weren't around durring the days where Lord British would have us gathered in his castle waiting on him to arrive and give us news. The old invasions, so many events. One of the greatest things about UO has been the live events where devs or EM's or even GM's get involved with the community.

Just to put it into perspective for you, this is something a New MMO comming out is trying to do. They want the live events and such as well. So I guess my question is.............. Wtf are you talking about?

Now that nice to hear.......

So, if Events stopped giving special items as loot players would still keep playing the Events since their story arches just adds diversity to the game ?

Not the Events themselves, those can be fun to play following the storyline and all that.

What I am not in favour is the special items drops which I fear might be the "jam" that gets players into Events making them, unfortunately IMHO, a farming festival.......

I'd much rather see players play the Events for themselves, and not for the stuff that drops...

I think the Developers should make a test.

Design a hell of a great storyline Event, great fun to play, but add no new item as drops, nothing, nada, nils.

Would love to see what the players' turn out would be.

I've never received a special item, but was very excited when a member of my guild was honoured with having her name in the EM museum, and when one of our EM's asked for a tour of our town. I think the interaction is reward enough and any bonus hand outs just icing on the cake so to speak.

Yes, that's why I wished they strenghtened Events storylines and stopped release of new items........

I'd like to see players take part to Events for the Events themselves, not for the new items....

But until we have Events which deliver no new items, we will never know in reality why do players on average attend Events, for the Events themselves or for the new items ?

well, what story, I saw dawns burning house and the wierd things by the virtue dungeon, but its not like I have any clue what is going on, on ATL all I ever hear of is bagballl (eeeeew)

So realy want most want is to feel apart of the story like they changed the events some how, instead we get to farm crap.

let me put it like this, was thier ever anything for me to do but farm?

Anyway want to hedge bets 2 to 1 says Lord Casca is Fauline :loser: bagball indeed.

I used to DM long before MMOs so I can tell ya a bit about story, ppl still wanted that shiny new sword though! Also I bet my dice were alot less streaky than the RNG :p

Anyway when the big ending happens I am sure it will be posted well in advancve on www.uo.com And we will get a new patch aorund that time.

Meanwhile seems to me some stuff got snuck in last patch and the story leading up to it is going on somehow.

Servers going down soon, so I get to boot up the C64 for some Ultima 3
I never managed to beat it lol

If there weren't any events, I'd still be playing, but probably less. I'd have short term goals like taming the best Rune beetle/nightmare I can find, getting enough peerless regs, training up newbies on multiple shards, finding a bigger house spot etc etc. Then once accomplished, I'd take a break and play a different game.

Events are like a short term goal for me too.

Between 97 and now, there were long periods without events. Plus I seldom get to participate in the events, esp the EM ones.

I prefer events with an extended duration where everyone has a chance to participate. So I am happy with events like the recently ended TOT/shadowlords events.

Even so, I agree that the events should have a defined start and stop date and should not go on forever. If there are special event-related items, they should instead re-introduce it in future events as well. So Making the cloaks of corruption (a previous event had those too) and TOTs (TOT1 and TOT2) available again, made me very happy.

And believe or not, the reason alot of people play games for a long time is because of the items.

Citing diablo - I beat the game within a week. But kept playing for years just to get better items.

And D&D tabletop - if I can't carry my char and his items that I'd gathered to a new campaign, it's not as fun anymore.

Same with gamebooks where you can carry stuff from 1 book to another. Which made me prefer books like Lone Wolf over Fighting Fantasy books.

Now that this event is over, I have time to do other stuff I wanted, like checking out the Japan UO site, playing the newest DLC for Fallout etc. Also dug out my old copy of Master of Magic coz it was mentioned in a different post.
