The 2D client cursor

Hey,

I was wondering if there's any way to force the Windows cursor on the UO cursor, to reveal the real position of the cursor in real time rather than the laggy output of the UO cursor. In the KR client the mouse works perfectly and made playing feel like a dream. I noticed that when UO is in the background the Windows cursor is on top of the hand and moving it around feels great and precise.

But alas, when I return to the client the Windows cursor disappears and I'm left with a choppy cursor that doesn't really follow my actions precisely. I have tried with and without the "Run mouse in a separate thread" but it made no difference.

Looting and targeting is so much more enjoyable with the KR client. Actually, I can't believe why they still havent fixed this in 10 years time for the 2D client. The KR client doesn't work well for me (for now at least) so I'm forced to use the 2D client.

Thanks for the responses.

Try going into options and toggle the "run mouse in separate thread" option then restart the client. See if that works.

Like I said, I did try it on and off. No difference. Does the cursor run smooth for you?

I don't think so.

The UO cursor is a seperate thing to the Windows cursor, and presumably needs to be kept track of by the client in the same way as it needs to keep track of gump locations, or anything else. Remember it needs to switch graphics depending on where it is on the screen, and what it's currently selecting, and those cursor graphics are being called from the same file as all the other graphics ingame (like your regs or the floor tiles in your house).

To be smooth would probably involve reprogramming fundamental elements of the client - ie stuff that if it was reprogrammed would immediately break all sorts of other stuff.

That wouldn't lock the UO cursor to the windows cursor though, it'd just make it *look* like the Windows cursor, which would be even more infuriating as you'd think Windows had frozen ;)

btw Coppelia, I keep clicking the yellow egg in your sig but I'm going to give up soon. I don't think it's ever gonna hatch :/

It doesn't seem to matter whether the graphic is in the right place or not, it's just there to tell where it is currently. If you're fast your cursor doesn't even have to touch the item you want to pick up, it doesn't treat the cursor spot as the real location of the cursor.

That's why it would be great to have the "real" cursor on it.

Whoops, missed that part. Did you restart uo after changing the setting though?

Mine's working smoothly whether uo is in the background or active window. Using a razor mouse.

It does work slightly better with "Run in separate thread" on, but still far from the responsiveness of the Windows cursor. And no, nothing wrong with my mouse, it's a Logitech MX300.

If you run UO in a virtual machine you get the mouse pointer on top of the UO pointer. Just sayin...

Try the SA client, you well truly enjoy it I am sure. Accuracy and extras of the KR client, with much of the looks and some of the feel of the 2d environment.
I am not going back to 2D.

I've never had a problem in my decade of UO... I've also never heard of anyone else having this problem with the cursor and thusly regret to announce that I then have no solution. Good luck with finding something other than virtual consoles (as was mentioned by Shamus Turlough). I am enjoying learning the Stygian client and can't wait for access to the Abyss.

I had this problem when using a wireless mouse. I changed to channel of my wireless router and this seemed to fix the mouse problem. It was some sort of conflict between wireless devices.

You can do this with either the UOAssist launcher or Client.exe if you don't use uoa.

Go to the properties and then to the compatability tab. Select disable desktop composistion.

Still use the option for run mouse in a sep thread inside the client. This fixed my problems with the mouse.
