Actually this thread is an entirely seperate issue to the thread I posted the other day.

I didn't lose any accounts over this, in fact last I checked they hadn't changed the passwords even, but I don't care about the accounts in this case, just the property that was stolen.

Nothing fishy about it really, I identified the source of the hack - well, roughly anyway. One of my e-mail addresses was unsecure, basically (well, not THAT unsecure, but at some point it must have been hacked, and the passwords were recovered)

  Ouch. I only can stress further the importance of using an email address only for Ultima Online-- nothing else. I created an email address that was along the lines of ewiruyfkjskjfsbf_duferuiyt98w459835435kh@_____.com and linked it to my UO account. I haven't logged into that email for almost a year and have had absolutely zero problems with my account.

But you can get him in deep **** for hacking into an email account. They keep IP logs.

When you go to the police station file the complaint that focuses on them hacking your email, not about the UO Items. Email companies typically won't give out the IP logs to just anyone, but the police should be able to get it.

As I said, I've never been hacked before, and the first day (in about 5 years anyway - before then I was less paranoid!) I slipped on one of the primary rules of account safety, it happened.

Most people who take their account's security seriously never get hacked, and most people with any significant amount of wealth take their account's security seriously.

Sorry to hear you were hacked Hemi, its happened to me. I was fortunate to catch the act of having my characters stripped. I was switching accounts and caught it. I was lucky that the password had not been changed and they did not delete my characters or were they able to transfer my house.

btw, I had no help at all recovering the last two accounts I lost (my main play accounts), and I suspect they were probably hacked too after this, even if I never could prove it as I had no houses on either of them at the time, but I'm *sure* I never changed the passwords on them, and it's not like me to change my password and then forget about it. All I got from that was 3 days of stressful calls back and forth to EA, and getting my hopes up more than once, so not again thanks!

Anyway I was only going to sell it, so I've lost nothing irreplaceable - nothing I was intending to keep.

I sent a PM to Chrissay with the information and my account names but she hasn't replied, I presume somebody from EA read this thread but I doubt anything will happen here. Thing is I don't want the accounts back, really, just my stuff - even if it was a totally unique and identifiable set of stuff, I don't think EA go in for returning items - I mean the guy could have "sold" them (or transferred them to another account or some such security), and then they wouldn't want to **** over whoever bought them. I guess. Unless they want to instigate a special one off 1 day Europa shard revert?

Edit: btw Magdalene, am I allowed a special title still? I remember when I quit as a moderator I was given a choice of forum title, but it seems to have worn off!

Situation reminds me about Shalinoths castle on Drachenfels, which got taken by a hacker a while ago, is listed on the house sign as for sale and stands in this condition since several months.
Also a clear situation, in which I wonder why nothing is done by EA to transfer the property back to the owner.

Sorry to hear that happened to you, just today someone tried to get me to transfer my uo hubbys keep over to them. claiming they were him and that he was on a new account. his exact words were Hi this is Max I have a new account I need you to get on my other account and transfer the keep over. right off the bat I know it wasn't him. Max never says hi well never spells hi. he has a unique way of spelling it. and I know he would never wait for me to log in and recall there. He would call me on the phone. Our #1 rule is anything to do with our accounts like usernames or PWs is never talked about on icq or in game always over the phone. I told the guy ahh ok well ya need to call me and give me your password so I can log in and transfer it. he took off. Basicly I think the guy was fishing hoping I would know the password, would transfer it over thinking he was Max.

im confused... Last time i tried to sell uo gold for cash everyone told me it has been outlawed by EA and that anyone caught doing it is risking having their accounts banned.

if this is the case, how can anything in the game have a ligitimate cash value?

I have played this game for years and and I enjoy it. The one thing lacking in this game is the inability of the team to retrieve your stuff. Its like too much work, no thought given to how you feel.I dislike WOW but I have to say that they trace IPs and return stuff. The uniquness of your stuff means it will be easily retrievable and come on UO get the guy his stuff.

UO didn't ban rl cash trades, the stratics boards decided to ban it.

Which makes me glad I sold all my stuff when I did.
