The Trend Compulsive Hoarding

According to Wikipedia : Compulsive hoarding (or pathological hoarding) is the acquisition of, and failure to use or discard, such a large number of seemingly useless possessions that it causes significant clutter and impairment to basic living activities such as mobility, cooking, cleaning, showering or sleeping. A person who engages in compulsive hoarding is commonly said to be a "pack rat", in reference to that animal's apparent fondness for material objects.

We do hope that not to many of you dear UO players are "ïnto" this problem.

Our advise : Simple,Be Prudent in anything you acquire in this game.
JOHO of course.

With SA on the horizon and still not sure of what what "good" loot is, I am packing away anything that appears to be 200% plus mod intensity, which is quite alot considering peeps leave the Champ and Shadowlord corpses unlooted... not to mention tons of Invasion colored armor:(

Hmmm... maybe I should change to Rat form when I loot!

HA! You would think events like the Spring Cleanup would encourage us to get rid of all the junk. Instead, we all horde items just waiting for the next Cleanup!

I do not consider it compulsive........I just like "things". The more "things" I have the happier I am. til I run out of places to keep "things".

Collecting is a fun part of the game to many of us. what else we going to do with gold once you have your characters equipped and the house(s) you want? Doesn't make it compulsive (necessarily), ;)

Plus its sort of like the odds and ends in my garage...never know when you'll need that piece of wood or hardware someday, hehe.

Welcome Uriah!

Well, My name is Gray Ghost and it's been nearly 48 hours since I hoarded anything. It's been tough, but with the support of my family, friends and church I can be strong. I hope to get that 6 month chip soon. Anyways, thanks for letting me share. My name is Gray Ghost and I'm a complusive hoarder.

:D Are there more hoarders in the house as topic title suggests? Not too "many" so far
we see.

I am not a hoarder or a packrat..

at least not by that definition... Everything I have is useful (at some point in time I hope) and it certainly does not impair my life or mobility (ok... so I just added another house so I could get "organized"). lol

Guilty here:p!!!!! But at least I'm down to 5 accounts now. After 12 years of playing I tended to gather ALOT of junk. Every time I go to clean out my house.. it gets overwhelming. Wish they had more of "Clean up Brit" or "Spring Cleaning" stuff for us. They should leave that function up all the time.

Hi my name is Pepsi Lime, and I am a packrat. I dont go after monster loot as much, im after the rares/event items. Started 11 years ago with my first rare, "a mug" (this was before tinkers could craft mugs/goblets) and i was so happy because i could finally drink my virtual ale out of something other than a bottle or pitcher.. lol.

This is an older pic from 2 years ago.. Ive since re-arranged some things, and threw more stuff in the pile.

Sounds like an opportunity for the Devs to produce a declutterer NPC that periodically scours the player's house to salvage/stuff in a BOD/Toss out the front door or drop in a charity box anything that has not been locked down or "looked at" for a specified amount of time :)

About the only thing I "hoard" are resources and junk metal items, however when I do get a large supply of junk items, I sort them out and either resmelt or combine them into "junk" BODs for more shovels and BOD pulls.

I have a few other things that I would run a vendor with... that is if there were a vendor market OUTSIDE of Luna.

Being a compulsive Hoarder is akin to being a heavy Drinker, gambler, drug user. First rule and habit you learn........

Deny, Deny, Deny...... and Deny it some more!!!

You may say that this is living in denial. We call it getting by.

*while you have been reading this post I have been in your house, under your bed.........collecting............precious....... dustbunnies!!!*

There is. It just takes time dedicated to making it work. Not that I wouldn't mind seeing the Crimson and Platinum dragons blowing through Luna like Godzilla and Mothra through Tokyo.

Hmmmm... did I forget to mention I ordered two of the "7th char slot & Storage" combos so I could increase the house capacities and individual bank vaults to 150 each? And if I get a blue beetle for the 2 new chars, even more storage room!!

I am drawing the line on 3rd account, as it seems UO may be giving away the 7th slot combo with SA upgrade ...:danceb:

ROFLMFAO! At first I was trying to figure out why the original poster cared how much stuff I might be collecting... BUT... the replies were so hilarious, I'm thrilled and don't care!

Everyday I have to throw out at least 10 items so I can put ten more in there. Now... my house has the capacity of like.. 2900 plus. ALL my bank boxes are within 5-10 items less than full. Yeah... My name is Salya.. and I am a compulsive pixel hoarder.

It just takes time dedicated to making it work.

Kinda difficult when you're out of town at least once a month and for stretches where you're out of town every other week.

Personally, I'd love to see a way to centralize the vendor system for player run vendors. That still remains the one aspect of WoW that I can say "is better than UO".

Could do it through a Purchasing Agent in cities, who searches the player merchants for items requested. That way you don't lose the player merchants, allowing players the easy access to vend their wares.

Maybe a charge as a small gold sink for using the Purchasing Agent. And this would definitely
-bring prices down through competition
-bring back some of the merchant business to players who don't have a Luna shop
-offer ease of shopping, big time saver
-stay inside the feel of UO as a "worldly" game

Now, if we could get Caravans in too.

I was thinking the Bulletin board system in towns and at houses to create the searchable database, but you would still have to go to the vendor in question.

Dropping runes works well, just stock your vendors and the good stuff will be gone soon.

If you have a specific constant supply of an item, people will keep a rune and return.

Also, as this post points out, the are plenty of hoarders who want to hoard your hoarded stuff.

I have no problem selling plants and leather. Just have a problem finding space to grow them.

*raises hand*

I too am a hoarder.

I am a serious hoarder and pack rat. hat kind of play style comes in very handy when things like the clean up Britannia thing happened and I had a bit over 400 heritage tokens that I turned into virtue armor pieces and turned them in for points and also sold tons of tokens so others could turn them in for points. My main play style is to buy things real cheap and then re-sell for higher prices. You never know when something that seems to be plentifull and useless suddenly becomes rare and valuable.

After that first guild hunt back in 97, all my guildies knew I was(am still) a packrat :D I dry-looted mobs of the backpacks/ales/cheese/torches that they carried.

I also grab trash on the floors, including junk bods that I can recycle/stuff I can sell/empty bottles I can use/tmaps that I can donate, loot gems and scrolls off mobs that I will keep in my resource container etc.

I don't buy rares much, but I do keep the ones I've got, so I guess I'm a hoarder as well heh

Tell Tale signs of a Hoarder (Open to Updates)

1.) You are infected with the Hoarder Flu if you die gathering loot.

2.) You are infected with the Hoarder Flu if you can't find an item
and simply keep going around your containers at home.

3.) On severe instances the infection becomes critical when you try to load
your beetle loot and get prompted that the container can no longer hold
any more weight.

4.) Usually the symptoms are followed by paralysis often leading to death if a
monster is around. Remember overweight backpacks can be dangerous to
your health.

Hope this helps! :D

Another telltale sign of a hoarder.....Maxxed out strength and Dexterity. Walks around casting bless and strength on themselves every few minutes.
Hoarders are probably the only people who would buy a +25 stat scroll. (but we wouldn't, another sign of a hoarder is that we are CHEAP!!!)

Wrong. People with lots of gold and not much to spend it on get +25 stat scrolls for all their chars, along with multiple 120's to be able to swap skills out to multiple characters. Then there are the multiple soulstones to store those skills and have empties to swap other skills onto.

This coming from someone with 800+ lockdowns free in an 18x18...
