Treat the collections as a gold sink ... the alternate methods of donating are just a path for people who, for whatever reason, have time but not gold.

You're missing the whole point of what UO was about or should be about.....taking the time to achieve something, not having it handed to you almost, immediately.

I did it too.........traded in axes, ran around, buying from here and there....took some time, but............I have them and will not sell them for all the time spent.

As someone with very limited playtime, allow me to make one small point here.
As I said, I have very little playtime. I've decided to start working up my Lumberjacking and maybe eventually finish off my Carpentry. However, I started looking more into the rewards for the off times I play my PvE Paladin. Since I don't have a lot of gold, I decided I'd try to get my rewards in boards. I don't really have much of a desire or need for higher-level wood types, so I figure I'll turn in everything to get the item I want, then use the remaining to start working up my Carpentry.
You make the claim that it is impatience that is the problem, and I would argue it is not always the case. I have chopped every single one of the 100K+ regular boards, plus whatever Oak or better that I have. All by my self, over the course of months. To say nothing of the Ingots I have personally mined myself that I could use.
Having to make several trips with pack horses instead of just bringing the collectors something like a Commodity Deed or taking these items directly from the bank isn't a sign of laziness. It's a spot where they could improve the system to account for the fact that aside from gold, you need to have quite a few materials that weigh quite a bit in order to have the points to get anything.
Is moving hundreds of thousands of resources back and forth between the bank and collector with pack animals a sign of patience? A show of strength? Fun?
Hardly.
It's a design oversight. Nothing more, nothing less.
It works as designed...... I managed to take a char to tot spawn and make well over what it cost for your glasses and met some really great players in the process! And no I havnt spent more then a couple hours here and there doing it... still no mempo but who cares when you make new friends and hook up with old ones ya havnt seen in years!
