You want a swampy and what do you do?

1) get on guild chat and ask if anyone has a spare
2) log your tamer and get a few yourself xfer to another char and log back etc etc
3) spam at bank/spawns hoping someone will tame you one or has one in stables

What if you could go to a player run pet store and say "I'll have that one".

New players running around with a bunch of grizzly bears, pvpers looking for a special high end pet, lazy gits that hate taming and cba to do step 2, pvmers looking for pets with specialised resists for certain situations etc. Lots of people out there like taming and training different pets and I used to like the atmosphere created at WBB when players had horses lined up for sale etc.

How to implement -

1) Maybe something like a modified petball, you double click then click a pet and it's "stored" in the petball, you context menu select "reclaim pet" to get it back (normal taming skill and follower restrictions apply and must be in a secure log out location), and animal lore works on the ball so you know what you're buying. Maybe a "gem" that works as animal lore for those non-tamers buying mounts etc.

2) A deed e.g. "A Pet Registration Certificate for [pet name here]". You click on it and get an icon so you know the type of pet, and the right-arrow takes you through the Animal Lore info scrolls.

Commence flaming :D

OHHH!!! I don't care what anyone else says... I LOVE IT! That is a fantastic idea... would save bank sitting to sell and spamming to buy. I doubt the UO dev's would go for it but I would sooo love this!

The only concern I think they would have... stable and follower slots. Someone could use the balls or vendors to store animals... though I think they should expand the stable capacity anyway, what with all the new creatures that have and are coming out (SA). Maybe make it that only non-bonded pets can be placed in the ball? And if you place a bonded pet inside... it loses it's bonded status, same as a transfer?

BRAVO! Either way... I think this would be a wonderful addition. I hope someone of importance reads this...

I just realized something... they can put fish in a bowl to sell... why not a pet in a deed or cage or other... Although... a deed is probably the best way and when high-lighted... it tells you the basic stats or some such.

Back along time ago, when the Stables were getting to full, some players loved taming and stabling bunnies so they could a) cause other grief b) always be able to stable their pet and c) make money by selling off stabling spots, DD and pals did some thing :)

They created the Pet Statuette. You could turn your pet into a Statue and the Statue back into a pet.

This Statue could be put on the floor, placed in a container, placed on a vendor, traded etc.

Anyone could receive it .... calling it to be a pet .... well then they could have .... control problems :)

The UO Team could resurrect that code and augment it with the code used for transferring a pet. Clicking on the Statue could bring up the Animal Lore screens .... etc.

A lot of problems go away if they did this :)

*Obscure quote* Where do I go if I want to buy a pet shop? :D

Would be a great idea! Selling the pet in pet balls on vendors would work as well, like pokemon balls...

If I am not mistaken this was brought up once before, and I believe there was a lot of "no" going around....can not recall if any of it was from the Developer team tho.

Anyway I like this Idea as my stables get filled quickly Because I am a perfectionist, so I constantly have to *GIVE* away pets because it is to trouble some to try and sell them before my next tame.

Why did people stop selling them in the first place? I think getting a decent answer to this question would help develop the best approach.

Anytime you start to tie a pet to an item you run the risk of taking the player interaction out of the sale (which is why alot of people in the past did not like the proposed ideas). Then players can put them on vendors and walk away. This same reason is why repair deeds helped to eliminate the interaction of crafters. I understand why you would not want to hand over your awesome weapon to a stranger, but instituting a secure repair window (similar to trading) would have kept that interaction going.

Maybe we need to have a way to advertise the pets in our stable (other than jotting it down in the paperdoll). Some item (pet ball art sounds like a good start) that displays the pets we have stabled. It could show tamer's name, pet name, pet type (GD, WW, etc..), and the rest of the Animal Lore information. It would not be linked to the stable in any way other than to show the info (no standard pet ball function). That way we could advertise more freely and in more places. The buyer would still interact with the tamer to negotiate and complete the sale and transfer (same as today).

This would also serve as a trophy for tamers to proudly display their pets even if they don't want to sell. I would love to have people come into my shop and see my achievements as a tamer.
