Can you still get vines? What animals would you need to fight to get them? I was told swamp tentacles but after killing about 50 I have only gotten one minor! YAY for the minor! lol...

Use a green thorn in a swampy area to summon a whipping vine. Those are the ones with the vines, not the ones in Tokuno.

You need to kill "whipping vines" and not swamp tentacles.
They spawn planting a green thorn in a swampy area, or just naturally in the twisted weald dungeon (ilshenar)

It's somewhat easier and/or safer to find Whipping Vines in the Blighted Grove.
