This may be a very basic question, but can someone please explain to me what a soulstone does, and if possible the difference between a full soulstone and a fragment.

Soulstones are items you can transfer skills to, to give to your other characters or to delete! A full soulstone has unlimited charges and a soulstone fragment has 5 uses.
Soulstones are account bound, there good for storing skills ect, im sure someone else will provide a bit more info if needed.

A soulstone is an item that you can use to store your skills on and even to transfer skills from one character to another.

This item may only be used by the account that acquired initially. Whether it be by using the token/vet reward/or by code. So you cannot buy a soulstone and use it unless it's the soulstone fragment token.

A soulstone fragment differs from a full soulstone by the fact that you can only use the soulstone fragment 5 times (one full use includes both storing the skill and taking it off the stone). A full soulstone has unlimited uses.

Just to add a tidbit about fragments. You can put skills on a fragment and delete them as often as you want without using any charges. I find this helpful for removing partially trained skills that I don't need on my template. The fragments only use a charge when a skill is transfered from the stone to a character.

Does anyone know the Ultima lore behind soulstones?

Was there ever any fictional tie-in or were they just arbitrarily added to the game as a feature? Sorry if this is common knowledge, I missed the Samurai Empire expansion and I haven't been able to track down applicable information.
