Dude Where's My Beetle

I've lost Bob, my friendly Giant Beetle. He held the regs and pot kegs for my newb whammy solo-er that I have not built a decent lrc suit for yet.

He's not bonded but I observed a long time ago with my miner, that just tamed pack-type animals generally stay wherever you leave them. That was the case all week until today. He should be by the weald sparkle but nop. Am thinking he maybe got pwnd by the patch? R.I.P Bob the Beetle *takes off hat*

Have you had a thorough look around the area where you left him? It sounds as if he may have gone wild and wandered off, so he could be still about.

I always try to offload giant beetles if at all possible even if I log out mounted on them, but if I can't I feed and try to log out in an enclosed space so my beetle can't go too far.

They will stay where they are as long as you told them to stop/stay. They don't even auto-defend and get lured away by monsters anymore.

It's possible that it was killed by a monster someone accidentally lured in...depends if you were away for more than enough time for it to die and it's corpse to decay. too bad it wasn't bonded, otherwise you'll know for sure since you'll see it's ghost at same spot (or when you logged on).

Also, server downtimes have been known to erase players' unstabled/unmounted pets...

If it's not there anymore, consider it gone. Get a new beetle. And once it bonds, link it to a petball and leave the petball in your bank.

I was not aware anything could be lured into the mushroom caves (the weald sparkle). I leave him there while I key then do dreadhorn, but he's always been right there between runs then suddenly poof.

The other beetle will bond soon and losing some regs/pots is no big deal I am just interested, as ever, in the mechanics of how this works and any tricks to get the pet to you anyone might know.

Erm...think miners with gargoyle pickaxes. Someone could also release their pet dragon right outside...

If you came back before the server went down, that would rule out the maintenance cycle deleting your pet. Which leaves the other likelihood - it got killed and the corpse decayed (takes around 10 mins).
