Dread Horn - What did we do wrong?

So yesterday night my friend and I took our sampires to try and take on Dread Horn - the keys including Irk went off without a hitch with us both beating on them. He was using a war fork with HML/HSL/SSI and I was using a diamond mace with HML/HLD/SSI, both with decent suits and 150+ stam. However, when we got into Dread Horn we would stand toe to toe with him for about a minute until he mana dumped and completely obliterated us. I wasn't using curse weapon, as I'd heard the vampire form would be enough for life leech - I tried keeping up counter attack, evasion, confidence, chugging pots, anything that might keep me alive longer but nothing seemed to work. Where exactly did I go wrong?

My template:

120 Macing
120 Bushido
120 Parry
100 Anatomy
100 Tactics
100 Necromancy
60 Chivalry

If anyone would like to share their routine or try and figure out what went wrong I'd greatly appreciate it

I've never solo'd DH, but what I think may have gone wrong is that only one person can honor, therefore one of you wont be doing the high amounts of damage you get with honor. Because of this you will not be leeching as much HP to keep you alive, so Vamp Form wont be enough on its own to keep you alive.

You also mention you don't have any HSL on your diamond mace. Each time you get hit, your stam is going to go down and so will your swing speed so you wont hit as often. If your not hitting, your not leeching, if your not leeching your dead.

If your going to two man DH, both of you stone necro for healing and xheal each other; this I have done a few times and it works great.

Also, if you both have the mace and shield glasses, you both have the HLD mod, imo, to also have it on your weapon is a bit of a waste, and HLA would be a better replacement.

As I said, I have never solo'd DH, so there are better people around then me to give you advise, but those are my opinions, hope they help

Things I'd consider:

Swap Anatomy for Resist, with his area debuff and curse (if they stack) thats got to be like -40 stats?

The Fencer should use a Spear or Leafblade, preferably the Leafblade as he can then use Feint to half the damage DH does, it lasts about 5 seconds so combined with Evasion should make things easier.

Whoevers doing the most damage should stand directly on top of DH and the other guy right next to but not on top of.

2 Sampires aren't really a good combination as only one can honor it. The best 2 person combination I've used for DH is 1 Sampire and 1 Discord Mage, the Discord Mage doesn't attack and just Discords and pre casts Arch Cure for the Sampire. If the support character does attack with summons or whatever then they will get teleported and attacked.

The other option would be to both convert to bandages and xheal each other. I think it's 2 seconds for healing someone else.

Use Greater Strength potions for more damage & 10 HP.
Use Greater Agility potions and Stam Increase on your suits so that your stamina is over 150 and doesn't dip below easily.
Use Total Refresh potions instead of Divine Fury to avoid the 10 DCI penalty.

Maybe as well a consideration, for the support char take of parry and use healing, that way he can heal the tank.

1) you must honor to get damage output high enough to life leach sufficiently. if two man, whomever gets the honor in must be the meat shield
2) hsl / hml are musts on weapons (hsl to restore swing speed b/c stam will get dropped whenever you get hit, hml to spam lightning strike which is a must especially to build up perfection / damage)
3) you must have max dci (i haven't been able to solo dread with an assassin suit, even with 35 dci, just get hit too often)
4) buff up as much as possible. i use strength / dex potions, purple petals, and balm of strength. those few points make a big difference
5) all 70s is a must. different places just say it's physical / poison damage, but i don't think that includes damage from spells

also, i have tried using fencing weapons to solo dread, but eventually just went back to my twink and ornate. i found the fencing weapons just didn't hit hard enough / leach enough.

Which one of you is tanking?
Did the person tanking got honor on dreadhorn?

If the person tanking does not have honor on dread you won't leech enough. You don't really need resist but hit lower attack does help a lot and carry a trap box for when you get paralyzed.

Also are you using greater strength and dex potions?
Strength adds hp and damage while dex lets you swing faster.

How high is your Strength, and are you using Samurai plate? If so, does it have Lower Requirements?

If your Strength isn't high enough, one hit from Dread Horn's "despair" attack will knock your armor right off.

Dread Horn is tougher than people realize.

2 cannot do only one because of the other not honoring for higher damage. and just to let u know my sampire has only 34 dci and i solo him everyday so it is possible. max dci is not absolutely necissary but does make things easier......heck one time he caught me with the stat debuff before i put str pot up and my fey leggings came off and i didnt notice...hence reducing my dci to 14....and i still hung in there with him for bout 5 min until i noticed he was doing more damage and i looked over to see my leggings in my pack lol. Also i run the sampire template with healing so i dunno how that differs from u guys that dont.

hey i did the same thing first time i went in there with my bud. he got the honar and i died lol so 2 samps or whammy bad idea.

as for what i do when i fight him I run swords so i use a soul seeker
but you could still use ur mace just carry alot of total refresh pots.

but this is my temp when i fight him

115 bush
115 parry
115 swords
100 tactics
100 necro
100 magic resist
65 chiv
40 spirit speak

i dont run protection cause it lowers magic resist.
i use mace and shields , storm grips , fey leggings, rune beatle carapace
neck and sleeves have high fire high poison lots of stamina and mana.
43 dci , 34 hci 70 70 69 70 75for resists
you can go either way wraith form or vampire just keep him honared and e01and ull do fine go ahead and curse ur wep when you get low on health.

Hurrah! I managed to solo Dread today! But when he was redlined..he killed me. Found out what my weak points are though so I now know what to work on for next time

If you want to two-man the Dread Horn, may I suggest using healing instead of necromancy? Combined with liberal use of cure potions (no vamp form FTW) and two second bandages, it makes it a lot easier.

I've also done it with a sampire and a wrestle-mage, but the mage was pretty ineffective, spending more time not getting killed than actually doing damage.

I would guess not, I remember that Chiv Remove Curse doesn't.

dreadhorn's natural debuff can't be removed, you just have to use potions to offset it.

Right now i have the basic sampire template with 100 necro/60 chiv.

Farsight said to just use healing instead of necro, so could I just stone necro and put healing on and keep the same weapon (soul seeker)?

Drop parry, raise tactics or anatomy to 120, add 100 healing.

First of all u shouldnt be using a soul seeker for everything.....if ur swords then its ornate axe or rune blade..the only mods that r a must r hsl hml ssi di
My template is necro with healing but u need right mods and right gear with the right resists...

midnight bracers, faction heaRT of lion, faction fey leggings, crafted gloves and mempo, M+S glasses. My other pvp toons aquire this guys points and i transfer them. Sampires suck for pvp. i wouldnt even attempt tryin to pvp with this temp.
resists r 70 70 68 70 75 with magic reflect...big deal i gotta carry scrolls and arcane boots incase they get looted and yes i rely on pots but i have gm scribe and alchemist so not big deal or pain to me. Lots of people have copied my template on my shard from seeing me solo peerless and doom and asking what i run lol

with enemy of one, perfection and consecrate, i do more than enough damage with 70 tactics and 85 anatomy
