Easy Money while disrupting UO

For the past 11 years I have been learning more and more about Ultima.

After some years I learnt the game is all but fair... but that is ok... we should adapt... I also believe that every veteran has adapted to each change... that is why we're still around... and looking around... there are ALOT of us.

UO, like most games, has a darkside.

(dont judge before finishing)

I have been fighting for:
- trammel powerscrolls/stat scrolls
- account bound the major artefacts/replicas
- only allow 50 heartwood quests per day
- everytime someone gets a valorite hammer give him a special title
(if someone gets 10+ of those titles... report it)

well ladies and gentlemen...

Enjoy the reading...

Google... wage slaves+ultima

But keep playing!

This is OUR Ultima and our Devs have improved it ALOT.

To all the others that play for another reason than fun, challenge, community and adrenaline... :loser:

I can not see why in a game where items can be sold creating economy, we would need account bound items, WOW to me feels deviod of substance, I think soul bound account bound and BOE crap suck.

PS's are one of the only reason alot of folks go to fel, you can sell other tram artifacts or resources to get them. Its what I do.

Let folks play UO the way they want, the economy is the last stop for alot of folks in game and is why many folks play, this would effect it in a bad way.

I hardly do heart wood quests but when I do I do about 250 in one sitting why? cuase thats what it takes and to this day I have never got a heartwood kit. 50 quests a day would suggest you dont know the odds off getting a kit.

and we dont need a title for folks do you think bod scripter make that many val hammers,

The influx was dupers plain and simple and could have been stoped by EA

I realy dont want UO anything like WOW so please dont suggest anything in the from now on.

nothing personal, I try not to suggest things as well, sorry if I seem upset, I am not I feel we the playerbase whinning is what cuased some of the worst changes in MMO history

I've said it before and I'll say it again:

Static predictable content encourages scripters, cheaters and "wage slaves". The easiest way to fight those problem AND improve the game content at the same time would be, to make content more dynamic and less predictable, and reduce the importance of items. Make dynamic monster spawns. Let spawns move, let monsters flee or call for reinforcements. That's what it would take.

P.S.: One problem is also the people who buy overprized items. I'd never buy a +25 Stat Scroll or a 120 Magery Scroll for 25 million gold. A 115 magery scroll will do, and it only costs 750k. Stick to this rule, and the item and gold farmers will die out.

You want to see gold farmers die out?

All creatures spawn with 0 gold. The longer they live (or the more players they kill) the more gold they accumulate until they hit a cap based on fame and size. It should take at least 20-60 minutes for low to mid range creatures to hit there cap. High end creatures might cap out after a couple days, but they'd still have a couple thousand gold after an hour or so. Imagine a 2-day old Balron with 60,000 gold! Maybe an Ancient Wyrm carrying 500K!

There'd be no more players camping a spot and killing every Daemon before it even has a chance to take a breath. No more invissed tamers except during the ToT events.

Erm...based on Catlord's previous posts, I'm still trying to figure out if the OP was being sarcastic...

Just to note, that particular article is dated 07.05.2005.

While there's definitely gold farmers/sellers in UO, from what I can see, there are alot less nowadays.

I think many switched to newer and hotter games like WoW as it has a bigger market. Or at least it's easier to get buyers.

Esp the sweatshops in various countries that have just had their internet infrastructure set up the last 5 years. Too late for UO, but just in time to get in on the action on the ground floor for the newer games.

The ebay ban also helped, so no more freelance sales.

Plus several UO trading websites (that also sells gold) have since gone more or less inactive.

Agreed. My fear is those with way too much time are a very vocal minority and try to turn bacon & eggs into tofu & watermelon - and the devs listen to them.

"Lets all be eeeequal, lets replace arties with huuuuuugs".

I read posts like this and feel fear in my belly. I am not uber rich or a farmer, I kill stuff for gold, I buy stuff one level below uber where the best price/quality trade off - but I don't feel the need to force others to play the same way. What's that about, anyway?

I like this idea!
However, certain places are so deserted that they are visited maybe only once a week.

Just posted what is my personal view.
Not throwing ideas for the Devs to use or the player base to follow.

Kill the black market and UO will change... hopefully survive it... and evolve to the next stage.

How are ye incorrect ... let me count the ways ...
- trammel powerscrolls/stat scrolls this is #1
- account bound the major artefacts/replicas #2
- only allow 50 heartwood quests per day #3
- everytime someone gets a valorite hammer give him a special title #4

I think that the special title for those who receive val hammers is pretty neat... so long as its not used against the person to accuse them of cheating.

Wonder why people are against the val hammer idea, seriously...if you have recieved more than 10 of those from actual bods....it is more than likely you did not do it fairly. :p On the other hand it could be easily Coded to only included Bods in which you had gathered yourself, in which case I would have to call foul on anyone who has gotten more than x amount (not sure what x is....would have to do some math, you know release of AoS add up the months, then probability of getting a hammer... I guess x could be like...30? maybe....and that's pushing it >.>) Aside from that, it would be neat over all to have a title so people know you have actually put in that much work that you have gotten 1 or 2 or 10....I guess it only really becomes a problem if you get 10 in 3 months, but again...what are you doing to be able to get that many val bods. :p

Love the first suggestions here, very interesting concept...would require a gooood deal of tweaking to get something like this to work right, and as someone else said about alot of places bearly ever being ventured into once a week if there lucky maybe? Well i think every place would see more traffic, as it wouldnt be in your best interest to go where everyone is , has been, or where you just were.

in reguards to the P.S. this will never end, there will allways be someone who wants a 120 and will pay 25 mil for it. so there allways be someone else who wants to sell one, and trys to sell it for maybe 26, and then someone trys to see if they can get 30 for one.
Greed drives profit in any monitary based economy, only in a truely resorced based economy will people ever see an absence of greed and "gougeing"

Name one MMORPG that has LESS dark sides.
I can't think of one, and I've tried quite many.

This doesn't mean that there isn't a lot of room for improvement in UO.

Anytime EA/Mythic wants to stop gold farming, item farming etc all they need to do is make it possible to buy everything in UO from the UOStore.

This establishes the price, it establishes authentic items, it establishes a reliable supplier.

Now anyone wanting to compete with them will do so at or below their established price.

All the income goes to support our favorite UO Team :)

Before one rebutts this to vigorously, one may want to consider that all UO Items are available through 3rd party suppliers. So in one sense this does not change the Reality we play in, it gives the Game Owners direct control and benefit of a ..... problem.

Well ppl selling items and skilltraining for IRL money isn't really bothering me. Some people just enjoy PvP and are extremely busy at work/with kids/other hobbies etc. that using the little time they have for UO to something they don't enjoy at all doesn't sound good.

Do they get unfair advantage over others cause of using IRL money? Maybe... I dunno.

But I still rather fight them and their items then see them quitting which they would prolly do if using huge amount of time to PvM to be able to PvP was the only option.

And I have enough UO money to compete with IRL money users armor ;)

This... sort of.

The problem with this theory is some fools think that unless you are sporting the "perfect" template(aka 120 for everything) and the "perfect" suit, UO would be unplayable. And heaven forbid a player has something these fools don't have especially if you've played the game for years(AOS stat bonus anyone?):loser:

Sadly, people worry too much about what other people have and worry less about their own game experience.:loser::coco:

Well lets face it..... when UO Became an item based game.... after AoS... it can't go back.

We are stuck with it.

As for PS.... I used to say yes put them in Trammel...

But you know... I don't care anymore. I just buy them like everyone else.

And as long as I know I'm never ever going to waste my money on a 120 mage scroll.... (I stink as a mage anyway so having 120 magery won't help me)...

I don't care..... 115 is good enough for me...

Also... Most the other scrolls are easily obtained cheaply. However... I know as well as everyone else that eventually they will run out of people to sell those 120 scrolls to.... after all you can only use one per character.... so even if you put one on every character you have your pool of buyers dwindles faster and faster...

Same with other things... if you price things ridiculously high eventually it will cost you more to have it on your vendor than you could have made if you had sold it early on for a decent price.

And that goes on to ..... just because you see something priced at "X" amount of gold does NOT mean that's the price they are going for.... That means that is the price idiots think they can sell it for..... if it sits there week after week at "X" price... then that is NOT the price they are going for.... that's the price they WON'T go for... .... so lower it.

Even though those scrolls sell at that price the player has the option of either trying it for themselves or buying it. That is whats great with the UO market where the players set the price. It was part of the message along with be whoever you want with early UO.
Also got to remind themselves today's 25 mil is the same as yesterdays 500k. Imagining have 25 mil in the early days of UO.I hope there is still value to items instead of everything being common based.
I believe in the free market. We shouldn't have a communist society where nobody can ever be worst or better than the other person. There should always be somebody that is better of or worst of than you. Whoever works harder and place more time with more more knowledge should come out on top in gold,skills,property,items,etc..

Does it suck that there are people involved with Uo that cheat & profit unfairly? Hell yes!

Does that mean that everyone else cant still play the game as intended and enjoy the hell out of it? No.

The people continually complaining and sometimes whining about "black markets" and farmers and dupers are simply of the sort that will never just be able to enjoy the game. Regardless of what facet they play or how far removed they may be from what they complain about.
