On the shard where the character you want to put in factions is located, log on to EVERY character on that account and that shard. With each one, say "What is my faction term status."
If the character is NOT in a faction, there will be no system response. However, if the character does belong to a faction, you will get either a response of "You are not in the process of quitting the faction" or a length of time in days/hours until the character will no longer belong to a faction. If you find a character that gives you one of these responses, there are three ways you can determine which faction the character is in:
(1) Take the character to Fel and mouse over him/her. You will see the character's faction title and faction name and abbreviation (i.e., character name followed by faction abbreviation and guild tag in their own sets of brackets on the first line, and faction title and faction name on the second line).
(2) Look up the character on
www.uo.com using the character search application. In the upper left corner of the screen with the picture of the character will be an icon that represents the faction the character belongs to. If you haven't logged in on the character within the last 90 days, however, you won't find them with the character search application.
(3) Click on the Guild button. If the character belongs to a guild, the first screen of the guild menu will show which faction the guild belongs to.
On any particular shard, your characters on a specific account can only belong to ONE faction. You can, however, have characters on one account belong to different factions, as long as the characters that are in opposing factions are on different shards. For example, on GL some or all of your characters on an account might be in TB but on Atlantic some or all of you characters on the same account might be in Minax.
It takes three days for a character to leave a faction. If the character belongs to a faction guild but is not the guild leader, the character must resign from the guild and then go to the faction stronghold and use the stone in the sigil room to quit the faction. (If a guild leader quits the faction while still the leader of a guild, every member in the guild will enter the faction quit process.) While the character is in the process of quitting, it cannot steal or carry sigils. I'm not sure whether it can earn kill points either. I believe it will give up kill points if defeated by an enemy faction character, however, and I believe it can use the honor function to transfer kill points to another character in the faction. As noted above, say, "What is my faction term status" to find out when the character should be out of the faction.
