I have fortunately never had a house fall, but I have friends that have and I can tell you that losing valuable skills stored on Soulstones has to be one of the worst things you could lose.

IDOCers that get these stones usually just throw them on the ground or sell them for deco.

My suggestion:

Implement the same "Owned by" tag on the Soulstones and fragments so at the very least IDOCers could try to find the owners OR ppl could post what owners names they have and make it easier to locate the soulstones if a player was returning to the game....

I know there will be ppl that simply will say to this, "Keep the soulstones in your bank = no worries" and I know there are "post griefers" that will pick apart this idea....

I just wish I could return the full soulstone that I found with GM spellweaving on it that was just dumped in the middle of Luna.

It is only worth something to its original owner.....

Though something similar to this has been suggested ...... I would like to have the stones at least highlight perhaps green or something when you mouse over a stone that belongs to your account.... while I don't want the stone labeled for me... I really would like to have them at least highlight green or something to indicate that it belongs to my account...

This would be helpful if you are looking for your stones..... I know I have a bunch of accounts and I can never remember which stones go to which account...

This is a good idea, not sure the "owned by" tag would work per say but the general idea is a good one.

The problem with the "Owned By" tag is that the Soulstones are owned by the account and not any particular character. Seems there ought to be a solution though...

I agree with some tagging of the Soulstones< full or fragment> should be deployed
by the developers... I suggest the last users name; the name of the character, that used the soulstone.

The bank is still best place for these items... other items should be in lower priority.

Well even if it was whatever character cashed in the token, you'd recognize the name as as yours. It wouldn't mean anything else, and of course I know that stone works for all on each account. I just wanted to see if they could implement anything to help. The color changed idea when moused over is interesting.

Super Ultra Best Ways To Not Lose Valuable Skills Stored On Soulstones To Idocers:

Pay for your account-so your house doesn't go idoc,

and/or,

Don't break the rules and get your account banned-so your house doesn't go idoc.

As the other poster mentioned, banking soulstones is a great way to avoid losing your stored skills if you don't want to pay and/or you do want to break the rules.

As far as identifying who the soulstones belong to, once they're lost, they don't belong to anyone, so I see no need for identifying soulstones for people who don't wish to pay for their UO accounts or for those who have gotten themselves banned. They made their decision, they should live with the consequences.

Being able to inscribe soulstones would be nice for the rest of us however.

What she said. Except of course for all those people who have financial obligations beyond playing a game. Or for those who can not play due to having other types of issues, or those who have had their computer stolen or broken and can not afford a new one. Oh yea or those who...know what never mind everything she said was a bad idea -.-

Everyone in the world over the age of 18, even rich people! have financial obligations beyond playing UO, don't be silly.

You sound like the guy who posted here once asking for a free server where people could script their skills without punishment.

His reasoning was some people just don't have the time OR the money to play UO. (duh?)

Stolen or broken computer. YOU HAVE 90 DAYS past the last time you paid to pay for your account again and save your precious soulstones you were foolish enough to leave in your house rather than your bank, again, don't be silly.

You CAN CALL EA and pay over the phone for your account on probably the 94th day since your account was suspended and STILL SAVE YOUR HOUSE AND SOULSTONES INSIDE IT. (I wouldn't wait til the last minute just to be safe, though)

EA really makes it pretty easy to keep your things tbh.

But still it would be nice if we could inscribe soulstones.

:)

Oh just had a thought make soulstones GLOW a special color just for the account that owns them if possible.

So you're riding past an Idocers house one day and you see a strange GLOW thru the windows and you know your lost stones are sitting inside that idocers house on a shelf!

Seriously I like the idea kinda like that sword on lord of the rings that glows when orcs are around I think it was.

:)

Or whenever you're near your soulstones they could whistle a tune maybe? That would cover your lost stones sitting hidden in an idocers chest.

:)

Nothing in your argument actually counters what I said, so the people who have been laid off for 6 months should lose the ability to find their soul stones again because they have been unable to pay for the game? Also soul stones are useless in the bank people, I do not change skills on one char and I do not plan to buy 50 soul stones per char, so yea keeping them in my house usable by all my chars was the best way to go about it. Most people do not plan to have their accounts close for more than 3 months unless they are actually quitting, and these people usually give everything away or put everything in the bank. So obviously they do not count, so the ones who did not plan to have their account closed for more than 3 months deserve the sympathy you seem to be unable to figure out how to give. I choose to eat before I pay for a game, sorry if you would starve to save your items I just wouldn't. Of course for me I lock everything down in my houses with the alternate account so everything was done by the co-owner and the accounts are on opposite pay cycles, so this of course means if a house would have to go more than 3 months with out being paid I have the other account able to pull everything out and save it, of course not everyone has that luxury.

You sound like the person who disregards others hardships because you would rather keep/destroy something that has 0 use to you.

For my own soulstones-
I have a couple of chest I keep all my active stones in. Inside each chest are several more chest. Each of those chest are inscribed so that I know which chest goes with which account.

For others-
Personally, I'd like to see a way to re-bind soul stones. Granted, given the fact that EA sells soul stone tokens on their website, I doubt this will ever happen, but I would like to see it. Just have it wipe out whatever skill is already on the stone.

While I like the idea of being able to return soul stones to their original owners (I have a chest full of PBD's that I'd like to be able to return as well) I am not sure there is a feasible way without endangering the original owners account name in the current game. Maybe if there was an ingame mail system like in EQ/WoW.

Perhaps soulstones could be stored in a bankbox fashion, but account-wide.

They could be in a special "account bound items" box that can be opened by any character on that account to access the same items. There'd be no need to remove the stones from the account box other than decoration, but likely most people would opt for security. Only soulstones could be stored/accessed in this fashion, and only from a secure logout location as is the norm with soulstones.

This is an idea they could look into :)

As character names are not unique, you would not be assured this was your stone, other than as some one said, highlight the thing if it belongs to your account.

I would like to see Soul Stones reset along the same lines as the IDOC rules are.

Keeping them in a bank would stop loss I would think.

I do agree that some way to id them is needed. I found some in a box on Origin and have no way to find owner. :( I keep them just in case I ever do.

A problem on soulstones is, if they were obtained from an idoc, they mite not even be on the same shard anymore, and could be exploited into having a char named the same on another account trying to use the stone (same account)? possible?

Sure there are ppl that have the name Robin Hood on every shard, for example, but if I had lost a Soulstone and later on saw it on a vendor "Soulstone Owned by Robin Hood", I promise you I'd pay the 30k gold or whatever to TRY IT OUT.... if it was my soulstone, then it'd be the best 30k I ever spent.

Furthermore, even if my name isnt on the Soulstone, the poster with the color change idea would really work better. Every stone in game that belongs to your account turns BRIGHT orange, like quest item orange. Then, if you are browsing vendors, just wave your mouse over and if it is orange, then you buy it!

That vendors fee, a finders fee, if you will, is the best money you ever spent!

I do not understand how you see this as a problem, all soulstones are account bound that means no matter what shard or character you play on the soul stone will work for your account, so not sure how this becomes an exploit when it sounds like you are describing how they work normally o.o

Exactly! That's what I was getting at! You could esentially go to a house that has a whole bunch on "display" and mouse over them and see if they have yours as well...

I shouldn't think it would take a whole lot of excess coding to impliment and I for one would find it increadibly useful... I don't know about anyone else but I think my idea solves the soulstone identity problem really far easier than most and way more descreatly and securely. I sure as heck wouldn't want my name or gods forbid my account name on the stones.
