Magic Trap pouch

Hi as has been suggested on these boards that if your basically doing pvm that you can do away with magic resist and use a magic trap pouch. When you use it this breaks being para from the monster. However if you are running away from a monster due to low health and you get one of those pouches that does 50 or more damage your toast. I have tested the pouches and itslike 80% of the time its less then 20 hit points but that other 20% its much higher. Am I doing some thing wronge or is thier another way to break the para quickly without killing your self in the process.
Thank you for your time.

Use a trapped box made by a 30-40 Tinker/GM Carp. The traps on a 40 Tinker box do about 15 points max damage to 70 resist.

I take it you're an old school player who came back. We all make the same mistake...

You read pouch and magic trap, when you should have read crate and low skill tinker trapped.

The procedure is a bit more complex, but the results are similar. Use a tinker with 30-35 skill in order to trap a crate with a dart trap. I'm not sure on the specifics, as I have only done it a couple of times and can't quite remember what I did. Perhaps someone else can help?

Yup old player, but active from time to time, with the tot event on I am playing more and thought I would play around with my sammie skill some. I thought I would store the 120 magic resist and place in magery and some more meditation. That way I can cast ev's and kill things even faster when I use my sword as well. Thank you for the help I will try the trap boxes I have a gm carp and can buy the tink 35 skill.

Hmm went htrough the process of making the dart trap chests but cant seem to get the chests to open by just clicking on them. They say thier locked if I use a lockpick i can get it to open and set off the trap. But that takes time and effort so I must be doing something wronge here. Is thier a link anywhere as to how to get these trap chests to work properly. Thank you for your help.

you need to have it pointed in the opposite direction that you currently have it. :) to get it just drop it out your bag onto the ground and put back in your bag...repeat until its the proper way. Then it will work

Hi thank you for the info, I tried that but found I still had problems with the boxes. So I went back a numbere of posts and found the step I missed whcih is to use magic unlock on ther boxes and now they work like a charm. In most cases does like 5 dmg on my character, its nice that the boxes reset too. Well time to see what its like to fight without my 120 resist but should make things interesting. As a side note I believe my character is far from the norm in that I do not use anatomy or healing but do just fine in pvm using bashido chiv etc.

Is it just me or does the trapped box seem like a bug? Why should it have to be placed a certain direction? IMO - they should make trapped boxes work like they are supposed to, and force people to use trapped pouches (that cause 50 dmg) to get away.

Yeah it does seem very buggy indeed. I tested my trapped chests in my house and they worked fine. When I went to fight the dameons and clicked on the chests they just opened with out setting off the dart trap. Fortunately I was not in any real danger I was just seeing if they worked properly or not.

I found having 120 magic resist makes it alot easier for me to move around a crowded area of casters and I really like not worrying about mana drain etc.
So placed it back on my character again, I still dont know what I am doing wronge with the crates, perhaps the trapped chests only work a number of times. I plan on spending more time latter after tot3 is over.

It devalues Resist as a skill and makes yet another piece of crap you have to carry in your backpack to run the same gimplates needed to compete.

I've said it many times but as a player of shooters online for 15 years the less garbage you need to carry around, the less crap you need to restock, the more pvp will be had.

Restocking doesn't put off veterans but it puts off those who are weaker players but want the excitement of pvp. The chore of it naturally turns them off.

Who honestly finds it really important to loot, who makes their money like that in UO today? Screw it, just make everything except gold stay on your body BUT make half the insurance you get from kills go to your bank, the other half stay in your pack. Nice and simple, still a reason for looting and no restocking for those that don't want to use a script to restock or prepare bags of bolas/smokebombs/pots/apples/grapes and whatever else.

*edit* obviously scrolls and stuff should stay on your body probably doesn't need saying but you never know how thick some can be

Yeah I agree about the clutter issue, bujt i still use pots they have been around since about day one. Plus its give the skill alchemy to be a still usefull skill in the game. But if you remember pre trammel when heavies (crossbows) and mages were the thing for pvp most players were carrying trapped pouches to break the para spells from mages. Getting to gm resist was a real accomplishment back then too. I guese I have had it for so long on my template i fell like half my armour is missing with out it. Best times were those early days I have to admit with out leet things and insurance you just played the game and the blacksmith made you new stuff. More of an even playing field and relied on the players skill or being in guilds for added protection if you were new. Dungeon crawls and going after pks was the best of times and bounties on thier head made it all the more intersting.

It really doesn't take long to restock anymore now that pots are stackable. Grab 25 of each pot, 15 apples, and get back out there. (oh and a box). You can restock literally in 30 seconds. It doesn't need a script.
