House Placement Issue

It's been a while since I've played UO.

I went to place a house. I've always been a fan of trying to get every bit of house I can get. IT's kinda like a hobby.

SO, I start just placing away trying to fit in the biggest possible house. Then, All of a sudden, I can't place a house.

So, I'm just sitting here in Fellucca waiting to be able to place a house again. How much later is lateR?

How long do I have to wait? And, what's up with the limit on the number of times I can place a house (but not actually put one down)?

I went to Luna and asked this same question (on Atlantic) and no one answered. It was like everyone was afk. I come here and it's the same thing.

Community really is dead in this game.

I think you have like 5 chances to actually place then you get blocked for about an hour? That happened to me and the times are approx.

Its been like that for a while, it got added when they added an hour timer after an idoc fell before you could place

And this really needs to be looked into. A friend of mine was trying to place a keep after an IDOC, but couldn't get it to fit. She decided to put down an 18x18 and resize later. During the resize, she still had difficulty getting the keep to fit and after 5 tries, she got a message saying she'd have to wait. Ended up losing the spot to someone else. =/

On a resize, you should get as many tries as as the timer will allow.

I posted the idea a long time ago when placing a house, the plot outline should appear green when it's valid and red when it isn't. That way you don't waste your time trying to place a smaller or larger plot than the space would allow.

Looks like good ideas are not so good for all beknowest others eh?

Ways of the world ways of the world.

I don't think its actually an hour. The delay was put in to thwart scripters at IDOCs, and as a result there's a cariable delay when a house falls. Also, I believe its actually how much time between placement attempts that locks your ability to place. Just space out the time between places a little more and you should be okay

that sucks :(

i just never understand why people dont prepare better for things like this though (especially on a keep plot), or at least have a second account or friend ready to place if things go tits up... Plus its to be expected that at least in the first couple days after it fell others will be there to see if they can snag the plot, patience is the keye here really.

and yes the plot is locked to you for an hour ..longest I had to wait for the timer was 30 minutes and that was after trying to place like 15 times.

to the OP, the timer is random so it can be 10 minutes it can be 30 maybe even more.

all you can do is wait and see but i recomand smack down the largest you can and then try resizing, will save you losing the spot.

here are some hints on resizing

As others have said it's about an hour.. happened to me last week but it was just a 8x7 so I didn't lose much.

One of the reasons for its existence is a script/exploit that attempts to place a house on all possible on-screen tiles, thus "flooding" the housing system with placement attempts. So, this lockout time was put in to thwart this.

I agree that it's probably not a full hour that the house tool locks up before you can try to place once again.

Try logging a char with a locked house tool in place with the logout timer and see if that releases the house tool timer. Not sure how long the logout timer is, maybe 3-5 minutes.

The reason I say this is I was at a castle idoc once and I had 2 accounts there either of which could place, and when the first one's house tool locked up, I'd leave her standing there, log out on that account and log in on the other account and try to place with her until her house tool locked up, then log her and switch to other account and by then it was ready to go again.

Hmm, maybe that would be log out timer time plus the time I tried to place on the other account as well, so maybe 10 minutes total?

That idoc castle was in Tram, so wasn't a problem logging in place, no pks.

I didn't win the plot, and it's been awhile but possibly log the char with the locked up house tool for at least 10 minutes and see if that's long enough to unlock it? If not try 15 minutes. Test BEFORE you'd like to place of course and in a safe location.

Might also try another character on the house tool locked character's account to see if the a tool works for them?

Locking house tools due to placement timers are a necessary evil in UO, unfortunately, because they prevent scripters from instantly placing (some of whom might even be afk) at the better idocs (Luna city, castles and keeps), before nonscripters/noncheaters even see the old idoc house fall.

Maybe it helps also to swap the character, if the tool is locked.

And while I agree with locking in General, should this happen also on a reserved for resizing plot (as long as the placement attempt covers the plot area)? I don't think.

drag over and hide all 5 of your chars with bank money and a placing tool. If one screws up, take him to an inn, log out, get another char up and trying.
