You can try all this on TC1 before you devastate your Production Bank Account.
First and foremost yes you can Solo Tame a Greater Dragon.
Step one, lose your fear of it attacking you. Nothing worse than actually getting a Tame Cycle started and step to far away from the GD to continue taming. This may sound funny but it happens, the next worse thing is to get to close and auto defend a GD while taming and make it to angry to continue taming. The next worse thing is to lose the line of site and get the You no longer have a clear line of site to continue taming. So again, lose the fear of the Greater Dragon and do not make mistakes if you get a Tame Cycle started. TC1 is just so great to accomplish this part, heck you get 2 1,000,000 checks so lots of insurance money
Resists are great but in my opinion are not the end all be all to Solo Taming a Greater Dragon.
DCI is as important as resists and having a Mage -0 Weapon is as important as having resists, well assuming your Magery is 110+
So if you have never played TC1 then some basics to help ...
There are two Help Commands
Help Commands (explains set and give)
My mind just went blank but it is something like Help skills that list all the skill words for the set command.
set magery 1200 sets the magery skill to 120.0 | set magery 0 sets the magery skill to 0.
Give arties puts a box of artifacts in your bank box and there are a crap load of them. I tend to take the Swords of Prosperity, the Ancient Samuri thingy for the Mage -0 Weapon and the DCI.
I fill out the rest in what artifacts strike me such as the Armor of Fortune and Gloves of the Sun that and the Bracelet Artifact and LRC is pretty well done for I think it gets you to around 90% LRC.
Give resources places a box of all resources in your bank box. If I am an Elf I think I mostly just use the Fey Leggings for the Resists, leaving the Neck and Arms to fill out the Resists and last 10% LRC. For those I take the Green Leather and start crafting (after setting blacksmith and armslore) When I have the resists combination I am looking for and cover the 10% LRC, then I am good to go.
BUT that is just how I dress myself initially and is NOT an indication of how best to do it.
Now I am a new character on Test Server and I have squat for pets and I am going to go tame a Greater Dragon?
Well yes I am.
There are choices, it is fairly easy to pull out a Solo Greater Dragon at the Fire Temple, in one sense as a starter it isn't going to make a lot of difference because it is a throw away (well probably).
Or you can go to Destard, did I mention that you should make sure you have everything INSURED? Did I say you should do a give tokens and use a token for the Quiver for the DCI?
Now I take a breath and get a Flute of Renewal Reptile Slayer or Dragon Slayer. I do this by scrounging through the dropped items of other people if I did not get one, until I find what I want. It is important to get the right Slayer Alignment IF your going to do the Peacing on a Greater Dragon, It gives either a 15% or a 20% boost to your chances. If you can not get a Slayer aligned instrument then get an Exceptional Instrument as this will give you a 10% boost vs everything. What I will do (music 120.0, peace 120.0) is on my Poof Mount run to within peace range of the GD and attempt to peace it. When I do and you will, I run up to the GD, dismount and start the Tameing Macro and start moving (as in lead tame) away. IF your lucky and you get a Tame Cycle going, being 2 or 3 tiles away MAY stop the GD in its tracks as a function of the Peacing, if your timing and spacing is right do the Lead Taming, if it is not get the heck out of there sooner rather than later and hide/ivis. Rinse and repeat.
Alternate, find some way to beat the GD down and without another Greater Dragon or Archery that isn't going to be easy. Then Lead Tame.
Alternate, just plain old Lead Tame.
Any way you choose should allow you to die enough times to lose your fear of being up close and personal with an ANGRY GD. The more you lose that fear the easier it gets to Solo Tame the GD.
Alternate, do the Quest to get into Blighted Grove by learning how to make the Machette, get a Cu and mass murder Thrasher, but be sure to honor it first. You can also do this with Succubi in the Fan Dancer DoJo. You can also do this with the White Wyrm in the Ice Dungeon, you just need to get to a couple bubbles into the 3rd level, this give you enough honor to tame a Greater Dragon. All of them will get you to that level fast enough. Remember the cycle is Honor the Victim, All Attack. If you keep the pet reigned in via a All Follow me and you keep the pet between you and the Mob then you probably wont ever get Agro from the Mob and the pet wont damage the Mob until you tell it to.
