Vendor Search Sites

Hi,

I've always wondered how those sites work. If they're actually hooked up to the servers/shards without the need for people to manually register what they have put up for sale then aren't they a little bit too dangerous?

The answer is, their methods of searching are the reason we do not allow them to be promoted on Stratics.

They use an illegal script and stealth around the cities and the illegal progam reads whats on all the vendors and sends it...
Thats really all you can say here without getting in trouble.

It's amazing the price differences from vendor to vendor for the same item. I really wish UO would implement an official "auction house" style vendor search system as it is such an awesome shopping tool I have trouble not checking it when I want to make a big purchase to see if I can find it cheaper. Or to see the going rate.

Let the free markets work! It would be a huge boom to ALL player vendors, because anyone could compete regardless of location as long as you had good stuff at good prices.

Searching the live server might be a bit laggy.. they could perhaps run a copy of the daily server save and check from there. It wouldn't be up to the minute but it would suffice.

That sounds like a good idea for them to look into. Since at server down it reads everything to save. It wouldn't work that much differently from the way they update the guilds on the UO page.

As far as I know, they aren't messing with the shards - they have bots that login at intervals and run the luna circuit and logout. hopefully that's not too much to say, but that's always been my impression. they're not linking to the shards directly, they're logging in bot chars just like we login our chars.
